Chapter 31 - CHAPTER 9: The Back Stabber

Emeka's expression softened. "I don't want to believe it, Chiamaka. But I needed to hear it from you."

Feeling hurt and defensive, Chiamaka accused Emeka of trying to ruin her friendship with Ogechi. "You don't trust me," she said, tears streaming down her face. "How can I marry someone who doubts me?"

Emeka, though hurt by her reaction, decided to give her time to process.

Determined to get to the bottom of things, Emeka devised a plan. The next time Ogechi invited him to another meeting, he secretly recorded their conversation. As expected, Ogechi repeated her lies, adding even more damaging details to her fabricated story.

"I'm telling you this because I care about Chiamaka," Ogechi said, feigning concern. "But if you want to avoid heartache, you should stay away from her."

Armed with the recording, Emeka confronted Chiamaka.

"Chiamaka," he said, his tone serious, "I need you to hear something."

He played the recording, and as Ogechi's voice filled the room, Chiamaka's eyes widened in shock.

"I can't believe this," she whispered, her voice breaking. Tears streamed down her face as she listened to her best friend betray her so coldly.

When the recording ended, Chiamaka sat in stunned silence. "I defended her," she said finally. "I trusted her. And all this time, she's been the one sabotaging me."

Fueled by a mix of anger and heartbreak, Chiamaka decided to confront Ogechi. She invited her to their favorite café, the same place they had celebrated countless milestones together.
