Chapter 28 - CHAPTER 6: The Back Stabber

Chiamaka, ever trusting, never suspected Ogechi's true motives. She believed her friend's words of caution, thinking Ogechi was simply looking out for her.

As Chiamaka's personal and professional life flourished, Ogechi's resentment became harder to hide. Their once lively conversations grew tense, and Ogechi's remarks became sharper.

"You're so lucky, Chiamaka," she said one day, watching her friend prepare for a campus leadership meeting. "Things just seem to fall into your lap."

Chiamaka paused, taken aback by Ogechi's tone. "It's not luck, Ogechi. I work hard for everything I have."

Ogechi shrugged. "Maybe. But not everyone gets the same opportunities as you."

Chiamaka didn't know how to respond. She loved Ogechi like a sister, but she couldn't ignore the growing distance between them.

By the time they graduated, Chiamaka had several job offers lined up, while Ogechi struggled to secure interviews. The contrast in their fortunes was glaring, and it pushed Ogechi's jealousy to new heights.

When Chiamaka landed a prestigious role at a top accounting firm in Lagos, she invited Ogechi out to celebrate.

"Ogechi, I'm so excited," Chiamaka said, her eyes sparkling. "This is the beginning of a new chapter for both of us."

Ogechi forced a smile, but inside, she seethed. She felt as though Chiamaka was leaving her behind, ascending to a life she could only dream of.

As Chiamaka toasted to their friendship that night, Ogechi made a silent vow: she would do whatever it took to bring her friend back down to earth.
