Chapter 19 - chapter 19

It was as if I had told them that the world was ending tomorrow or pigs had developed wings and could fly as their faces were a mix of amusement and complete shock.

Their eyes went wide, Sid's mouth hanging open while Tyler had a small smile on his lips.

" You're not kidding?" He asked.

I shook my head.

"Oh my god.. when? How?. " Sid asked.

" Believe me, I'm as shocked as you are. " I mumbled.

" What? " Tyler asked.

" Nothing. I said, it's.... all new and I just wanted to tell you two first so that... " I trailed off.

" Wow. I won't lie I saw it coming but it's still surprising. " Tyler said.

" Ditto. " Sid agreed.

" Well, he.... asked me and I said yes. " I lied, well technically it wasn't a lie he did ask me.

" Okay, now I'm the only one who doesn't have a mystery lover. " Sid pouted and Tyler chuckled.

" Well, if he makes you happy then, congratulations? " Tyler says. I knew he also didn't like Xavier. Nobody does, me included, but he was trying to be a good friend and be happy for me.

" Why, thank you, Tyler." I forced a smile.

"See y'all tomorrow?" He said.

" Yes." I answered and he walked away.

" Say hi to Paris for me, pookie bear." Sid called after him.

" Yeah, sure. " He answered, I smiled.

" Girl?! " Sid exclaimed.

" Let's go upstairs. " I said, pulling her by the hand into the gates.

" Woah Coco." Sid gasped after I had told her a cheesey story I had come up with about how Xavier asked me.

" What?" I asked, did she not believe me?

Maybe I should just tell her the truth?

I feel terrible lying to her about it,

" Sid, i—"

" Oh em geeeeee!!" She cut in before I could speak, squealing and hugging one of my pillows.

Phew!! She bought it.

" That is the most romantic thing ever... Oh, honey, I'm so happy for you."

" You are?"

" Well, I had always thought Xavier was a cold and heartless demon but if he could pull off such an amazing proposal just to ask you out I know he's not, who knows, behind all that tough day exterior he might just be a big cuddly teddy bear. So all this time you complained about

him— almost damaging my eardrums, you liked him!" Sid said with a goofy smile.

Quite the opposite, I hate him.

"But I thought you liked Nathan Lawson. " She says.

" What? No. "

" He likes you though."

" Yeah no. I don't think so." I say, she folded her arm and raised an eyebrow.

" Oh come on, Coco. The way he looks at you, the way his face literally lights up like a Christmas tree anytime he sees you, he always wanting to be near you, getting worried over the slightest things.....he even forfeited practice on Sunday to spend time with you, he's probably in trouble with his coach now." She explained.

" He did? Wait how do you know, stalker. Maybe you're the one who's in love with him." I poked her arm playfully.

" I can't believe it, " she chuckled.

" Believe what? "

" That you're one of the smartest students in our year but you can't figure out when someone is completely totally into you. " She says.

" No he's not, he was just being a good... " I trailed off as I remembered the library incident, and then it clicked.

" Fuck! " I cussed.

Sid was right.

" This is bad." I say.

" What is?"

"He's friends with Xavier and —"

"Xavier's your boyfriend." She cut in.

" Yes. And I don't see Nathan that way, I mean he's cute and all but..... No. " I said.

" Well since he hasn't said anything just let it be. Maybe he'll back down now since you and Xavier are together....."

" Maybe." I said, I didn't want anything to change between me and Nathan though.

"And you call me the drama queen, when your life is like a TV drama series." Sid smiles and I groaned, standing up to take a can of Pringles before sitting on my reading desk.

Sid grinned widely before attacking me with a thousand questions,

" So tell me more about Xavier, what do you two call each other? Have you kissed him yet? What was it like? Oh my god, have you slept with him? Is that why he asked you out so suddenly? No I don't think you have cause you would've told me, right?"

I'm pretty sure my face was red as a cherry.

" What? I didn't hear a word you said cause I'm studying." I said, looking into my book.

" It's Friday."

" Yeah, so?" I said, putting on my headphones and flipping through pages.

Sid stood up and grabbed the headphones from my head.

" Hey!"

 *************

It was Saturday evening and I had gone to the library to finish up my calculus assignments.

I popped a piece of cookie in my mouth as I flipped through numerous textbooks that were sprawled all over the desk. I was stuck at exercise 20, that feeling like I know the right way to solve it but I just can't seem to figure out how to go about it.

I groaned loudly, I'm gonna have a headache.

"Rough day?"

" More like a whole rough fuckin week." I answered, wait who said that?

I whipped my head to the direction of the voice and my eyes met a pair of black ones.

He smiled gently at me.

" Evan Hansen." I say.

" Colette Millers."

" How did you know my name?" I ask.

" How did you know mine?" He asked back, inviting himself to join me in my seat.

" You're the hottest topic in school now so..." He answered first.

" Topic?"

" Everyone's talking about the mysterious new girl who managed to steal Xavier's heart." He winked at me.

That fucker! Had he been going round announcing that we're dating?! What does he want to gain from all this?

" I'm just kidding, you look the shade of a tomato." Evan Hansen chuckled.

He must have mistaken my furious red face for a shy embarrassed one. Great.

" How did you know about it then?" I asked.

" Walls have ears." He shrugged.

I sighed, glancing at my equations.

" You know you're actually on the right track but you missed it at this point..." He says pointing to the fifth line.

" Yeah, I know, it seems like I'm going in circles. " I let out a frustrated sigh and he chuckled softly.

" You have to identify the function, it's a rational function which means —"

" It's the ratio of two polynomials, I know that! " I cut in.

" Exactly, then you apply the quotient rule.."

" I thought it was power rule at this point." I argued.

" Yes and no, to apply the quotient rule you find the derivatives of g(x) and h(x) then you can use the power rule." He explains, it was as if the cloud was lifted off my eyes as I scribbled away...

" And then you expand—"

" Simplify, combine like terms and....there! Finally!" I smiled victoriously at the book.

" Easy peasy." Evan says and I looked up at him.

" Thank you. Gosh, it was that simple but I just couldn't.. couldn't figure out where I went wrong." I say to him.

" You're welcome." He answered like he didn't just help me solve one of the hardest equations in the history of calculus.

" Really, thanks. I don't know what I would've done if you didn't help, I've asked everyone I know, sought through thousands of textbooks but still couldn't get it." I told him.

" I know, I know, I'm a genius. " He says playfully and we both laughed.

He is a pretty chill dude.

" Thank you." I said again.

" Yeah you've said that before,C." He smiles standing up.

" Hey, there's a party tonight at our dorm, please come?" He says with his charming smile.

" I don't know... I'm kinda..."

" Aw come on, baby girl a little fun wouldn't hurt." He says with pleading eyes.

I should go, he just finished helping me out with Mr Pierce's impossible assignment, it's the least I could do besides I don't have much to do again but,

" I literally don't know anybody that's gonna be there." I say, figuring out it'll be mostly seniors.

" So? You'll have one friend there, how bad can it be?"

" Who?"

" Me, of course." He says and I shook my head laughing.

" You don't think we're friends, I'm offended!" He gasped dramatically causing me to laugh more, if he and sid were friends they'll get along swell.

" Fine." I say and his smile returned.

He grabbed my phone and put in his number.

" Text me?" He says and I nodded, taking two pieces of my cookies, I slapped his hands away and hugged them to my self, protectively. He smiles.

" Bye nerd." He says walking away.

" Back at ya." I answered.

Turning back to my books and finishing up the exercise. Two more exercises to go and I'm done with the topic. I smiled, I almost couldn't believe I would be able to finish the whole topic but.... I'm almost done!

Just then the bell rang for dinner.

 **************

" Another member of the fantastic five you're now friends with..." Sid says as we ate after I told her what happened earlier.

" Can you please not call them that." I told her.

" I'll call them whatever I want. So, have you texted him yet." She wriggled her brows.

" No. I don't think I'll even go." I say.

" What?!. You've been invited to a seniors party Coco, seniors! Do you know what this means? It means you're cool now." She says.

" Haven't I always been cool.?" I ask.

" Well..." She says.

" I won't go if you both are not coming with me." I say.

" S.. seriously? You want me to come.?"

I nodded and she squealed.

" Hear that Tyl, we are going to an actual party." She hit Tyler's back.

" Owww what was that for?" Tyler spoke, looking up from his phone for the first time since we started eating.

" What are you doing?!" I asked.

" Yeah you've been glued to your screen all evening." Sid said, snatching his phone, I quickly moved to were she sat to look.

" Give it back!" Tyler tried to collect it from Sid who moved it up and down.

" Woah. Tyler." She gasped.
