Chapter 33 - The Crimson Dragon hunters sword

That was shocking to Dhamsel, she looked Rhett over in disbelief and didn't know what to say at that point.

"Are you crazy?"she finally spat in a whisper. "You will slay the ember dragon?".

Rhett remained silent and grinned the more, he pointed to the door and signalled for her to open it.

"I've got no time to waste", he said.

Dhamsel pushed the door open and they walked inside. It was dark and smelled like somewhere that had been shut for a long time.

Dhamsel searched for the bulb switch and eventually saw it, flicking it on. And so, the place was lit with the light of the bulb. The bulb radiated yellow and it made the place so. It made their shadows outstretch in a long and scraggly manner against the wall.

Ash and Haicor soon entered and so did the two guards, shutting the door. Rhett looked the place over. It was quite a small room, empty apart from shelves that engulfed it, filling the walls at their right hand side. On the shelves were different swords and shields and battle equipment, filling it.

Then above the shelves were Knights armours, round about the room. The wall was unpainted, making it brown, the bricks making it seem a bit sight pleasing to the eyes.

Rhett nodded, it was quite 'a place'. He looked at the ceiling and saw the bulb lighting the place, it was quite large and similar to the ones he had seen at king vongarth's palace. What made him wonder was why this Kingdom used bulbs. As a kingdom related in terms of lifestyle to the medieval times, he had expected them to do like them, use their style of lighting at least. He was honestly surprised they were using bulbs, something that modern earth used.

Dhamsel soon interrupted his thoughts. "So here, you get to dress and prepare for the battle against the ember dragon. You won't prepare in combat I guess, there seems to be no time for that. Moreover, king vongarth had said that you should be good in combat as you are the king of the dragon slayers".

Rhett almost scoffed at that.

Dhamsel continued. "Best of luck", she looked at Ash and Haicor. "You friends should help you in choosing the right armour and weapon, although the king already has a sword for you".

"Tell him I don't need any sword he has for me", Said Rhett. "I've told the stupid guards, I want the crimson sword of the dragon slayers. If you guys disagree, then you'll have to slay the damn dragon your damn selves".

Dhamsel grimaced, not in mockery but instead in astonishment. "How did you know about the sword?".

"You are acting nice towards me. I'll advise you to give it to me, I can guarantee you that is the only sword that will slay the ember dragon. At least if I do".

Dhamsel hesitated to speak for a moment before she turned to the two guards and said:

"Go get him the Crimson dragon hunters sword from the chain prison".

The two bowed in affirmation and turned to the door, opening it.

"And be fast about it", added Dhamsel.

The guards went out the door and shut it, their hurried footsteps sounding inside the building.

Now that she had some privacy with Rhett, she decided to speak to him, not minding that Ash and Haicor would hear what she was telling them, at least they were his people.

"Facing the Ember Dragon is a death sentence Rhett!, are you crazy! My father is sending you to die in a couple of hours".

"Why do you care?", Ash asked her. "Aren't you part of your father's plan, his plan to so dastardly murder my king?, aren't you a key factor that will lead to his death".

Dhamsel made no response to Ash. She looked at Rhett and her face showed pity, one that Ash doubted and Rhett was surprised to see.

"If I don't battle the Ember Dragon, your father is going to kill me instead. I've no choice, at least I've got to survive", said Rhett.

"But even after you slay the dragon, which I don't think so, and give my father its spirit gem, he'll nonetheless kill you", Dhamsel said.

Rhett smiled. He couldn't say what was making him this cool but it felt good. To just be calm while cunningly plotting your next move. Since his life, he hadn't been this cunning, the only time he had done that was in high school, to skip a class or something like that, but being cunning to the level of smiling each time a situation was sounding tough and acting cool, he hadn't been cunning to that level.

"So your father is this vicious. I slay an Ember Dragon and make him immortal and he still kills me", Rhett said, his smile widening to a grin. "Well, I guess I will have to die I guess".

Dhamsel wasn't making eye contact with him and so he quickly threw a wink to Ash who was tempted to burst out laughing. Haicor only smiled when she saw the expression, she too thought Rhett was no match for an Ember dragon.

"Excuse us m'lady, I have to prepare", Rhett said.

Dhamsel, staring at Rhett one last time, walked to the door and when she was about to open it, the two guards had already done so, walking inside swiftly and handing the sword to Rhett who held it with charisma.

Then, Dhamsel signalled for the guards to follow her and they did, walking out of the building.

Rhett moved the sword in his hands and was in awe at the sight. Ash and Haicor drew nearer and were shocked at the sight of the sword too.

It was crimson in colour, although rusty, the sides were silk and sharp. It was quite large and what really caught Rhett's attention was a little symbol, just behind the sides, of a dragon, an enormous one, breathing what looked like fire from his mouth.

Rhett raised it up, this was a hell of a sword.
