A minute later, only three corpses lay on the ground. Shao Ming's 虎口 still throbbed faintly; compared to a few days ago, it was much better thanks to Feng Yusheng's thick gauze wrapping.
"I'll go find the helicopter key," Wellington patted Shao Ming on the shoulder. "Good job."
"Let's check out the vehicle," Shao Ming picked up an L85A1 assault rifle from the corpse and said to Feng Yusheng and Lambert.
L85A1, Shao Ming thought as he held the assault rifle in his hand. It was known as one of the world's best "bolt - action rifles" due to its high failure rate. But at least it was a military product, and its power was greater than the .22 hunting rifle he had in the train.
Approaching the two Land Rover Defenders, Shao Ming noticed that the M2 heavy machine gun on the convertible model was not magazine - fed but directly connected to the receiver with a bullet chain. The bullet chain was dragged all the way to the floor of the vehicle and piled up; there seemed to be six or seven hundred rounds. The M240 on the front of the vehicle was still fed with bullet packets, with a loading capacity of about a hundred rounds.
Although Shao Ming had never touched a real firearm, he had watched a lot of movies and games. He knew how to operate these two machine guns. After all, even if you haven't eaten pork, you've seen a pig running, right?
The two vehicles were covered in blood. A bulletproof vest with chunks of flesh lay aside; the corpses were already decaying, and there were a lot of flies buzzing around. It seemed that the mutants couldn't open the bulletproof vest or bite through the inserts inside.
"Go find the vehicle key," Shao Ming said to Lambert. If there were any unexpected situations later, they would need these two vehicles to make a getaway.
Lambert nodded and started searching inside the vehicle.
Shao Ming led Feng Yusheng around the chunks of flesh and entered the cabin of the transport plane. The two searched around; there was no supplies in the cabin, and the pilot was nowhere to be seen.
Now it was up to Wellington.
In the hangar, Wellington pried open the window of the small storage room and climbed in. There were several keys hanging in the storage room; fortunately, each key was numbered, and he easily found the key to the Bell 206 helicopter. Wellington climbed out of the storage room, and two keys were missing from the key rack.
Shao Ming saw Wellington run out of the hangar, holding up a key and waving it at them. Wellington walked all the way to the Cessna 172 beside the helicopter. Shao Ming saw him open the cockpit door and climb in.
"Do we need to enter the plane to get the fuel pipe?" Feng Yusheng asked from the side.
Shao Ming frowned and shook his head. "I don't know. Could this old guy be thinking of flying the plane and running away by himself?"
Fortunately, they saw Wellington climb out of the cockpit of the Cessna. Shao Ming led Feng Yusheng back to the vehicle; Lambert still hadn't found the key.
"Stop looking," Shao Ming grabbed Lambert, who was about to climb into the other vehicle. "Can you use the machine gun?"
"How could I know how to use it?" Lambert said in confusion.
Shao Ming turned to Feng Yusheng and said, "Go check if there are vehicle keys on those corpses inside."
Then he turned back to Lambert and said, "Come here, I'll teach you how to use the machine gun. Once Wellington starts the refueling truck, it's likely to alert thousands of mutants in the terminal building. At that time, we'll have to start suppressing the firepower."
Shao Ming loaded the M240 for Lambert and said, "Look, pull here to open the upper receiver, then pull the bullet in and lock it in place. Then close the upper receiver."
"Okay, got it," Lambert said.
"Remember to pull the bolt on the side to load the bullet," Shao Ming reminded him and climbed onto the roof to set up the M2 machine gun.
Wellington didn't start the refueling truck but dragged the fuel pipe all the way to the helicopter. Due to the obstruction of the helicopter, Shao Ming couldn't see what Wellington was doing clearly; he could only see him take something from the refueling truck and run over.
Shao Ming aimed the machine gun at the terminal building. Although he seemed calm, he was extremely nervous inside. After all, there were two people relying on him, and he had unconsciously taken on the role of leader.
But facing the full terminal building of mutants, it would be a lie to say he wasn't afraid. He felt his two thumbs on the trigger were shaking.
At this moment, the terminal building was like a huge cage, keeping the mutants inside. As long as they made too much noise on their side, this fragile cage would be broken.
Fortunately, Feng Yusheng ran back with the vehicle key, giving Shao Ming a bit more confidence.
At least they could run away.
Wellington poked his head out from behind the helicopter and gave Shao Ming a thumbs up.
Shao Ming nodded, indicating they were ready.
Wellington opened the helicopter's cabin door and climbed in.
About half a minute later, the helicopter's propeller started to spin slowly.
In the hangar opposite the runway, a mutant slowly raised its head. It saw the helicopter that had started up and let out a furious roar.
The surrounding mutants were all awakened, and they all let out terrifying screams.
Shao Ming held the machine gun tightly, not knowing which direction of the glass in the terminal building would break first.
The mutants broke through the glass of the terminal building and rushed out.
However, they seemed to have forgotten that the passenger area of the terminal building was usually one floor higher than the ground.
The first mutants that rushed out mostly fell and broke their legs, which bought more time for Shao Ming and his group.
The mutants poured down from the second floor like a waterfall, dense and suffocating.
But after all, they had seen a lot of zombie hordes along the way and weren't so easily frightened.
This was the first time the several of them had faced a zombie horde directly.
Lambert let out a loud shout and pulled the trigger.
"哒哒哒哒..." The machine gun sprayed out a tongue of fire, and the bullets rained down on the mutants.
Oh no, Shao Ming thought. He had forgotten to tell Lambert that firing like this would damage the barrel.
But now there was no time to worry about that. The firepower of one machine gun was not enough to stop the zombie horde.
Shao Ming's mind was filled with many movies and TV shows he had seen. He fired in long bursts.
Now there was no need to aim at all. As long as he fired, he could knock down a group of mutants.
The 12.7mm caliber was no joke.
The two machine guns fired simultaneously, deafening them all. But Feng Yusheng still used the hunting rifle in her hand to shoot the mutants that slipped through the firepower of the machine gun.
Gordon had never seen such a scene. It shrank into a ball, with its tail between its legs and ears down, hiding behind Feng Yusheng. The whole dog was shaking.
The bullet casings hit the floor of the vehicle, making a tinkling sound.
Fortunately, the mutants were relatively concentrated, and so far no mutant had crossed the runway.
But to Shao Ming's surprise, after firing for a while, the M2 machine gun in his hand suddenly stopped firing.
