Chapter 1 - The realisation

'I guess this is how I die.' This was Damien's last thought filled with regret before the light in his eyes vanished, his body lying lifeless in a puddle of blood.

. . .

As he thought his life had ended, Damien suddenly found himself in a mysterious void. His body was just a round ball of smoke, and he couldn't sense his body.

"Where am I?...Is this the afterlife?" he thought in confusion.

"But how the f*ck am I thinking right now? I thought death was supposed to be the end."

Suddenly, he felt his body starting to melt in darkness. "F*ck, what's happening now?"

Just as he thought he was going to be dissolved in the void, he felt a pull. At first, it felt like just a small tug,but it grew stronger and stronger, as if someone were pulling with all their might.

"I guess it's better than being here," Damien thought as he let go of any resistance.

He saw a bright light at the end of the tunnel of darkness. Just as he was about to enter the light, his mind started spinning, and he lost all sense of reality. He couldn't see or hear anything in that moment.

Just as Damien entered the light, the void started shaking with great intensity, its tremors like it would break it apart. An ancient voice, impossible to distinguish as male or female, echoed through the void,...

"You're here at last..... the chosen one."

The words, filled with anticipation and unknown excitement, sounded sinister, but Damien couldn't hear them, as the pull into the light intensified.

The voice vanished as quickly as it came, leaving only the silence.

But for Damien, the darkness began to recede, and a sudden, blinding light assaulted his eyes.

His body instinctively coiled in defense, reacting to the insense light.

He felt a throbbing, unfamiliar pain through him. Just as his eyes began to adjust to the light and he tried to get up, a sharp kick struck his head. His mind spun, and before he could regain his bearings, he fell unconscious.

"Throw him in his room," a voice filled with disdain ordered.

Before losing his consciousness, Damien saw a blonde boy with crimson eyes ordering someone in annoyance.

---

Damien woke up after what felt like an eternity.

His eyes were heavy as if he had the best sleep in many years.

' where am I?' he looked around in confusion

trying to gain some insight about where he was. His mind was sluggish as he couldn't remember what he was doing and where he was.

He couldn't even remember his name. Slowly but surely, the clarity was returning...

Then he suddenly remembered the cold void he had been in just prior to waking up. He couldn't remember what he was doing before or how he got stuck in that void.

He tried to first sit up to assess his surroundings

"uarghhhhh"

When he felt pain... immense pain. It was unbearable.

He saw his body riddled with bruises and broken bones....his body so fragile as if it would break with a slight touch.

His body felt unfamiliar as he lay down on the bed again, feeling the soft bed under him.

The room looked spacious and was empty.

"Wasn't I dead?" The thought struck him like a bolt.

Suddenly, clarity returned to him.

"I remember getting transferred into some kind of void after dying ...and getting pulled toward some light...."

Just as he was remembering the details, the door to the room opened with a loud noise, and a graceful figure, like a noble, entered the room. She was more beautiful than any models he had seem on earth.

She had dark hair and a pair of crimson eyes, just like rubies. There was a hidden intensity to her gaze.

She moved toward him and handed him something. A glass vial containing a shimmering blue liquid.

She seemed indifferent and a little cold. I had many questions I wanted to ask, but just as I was going to, she turned around and walked out of the room without a word.

"The f*ck was that?" Damien said frowning.

.

.

.

His mind raced, trying to make sense of the situation.

"Uarghhhhhhhhhh!"

Before he could think of anything, a sudden, searing pain tore through his brain, and this time it was more intense than anything he ever felt.

"Make it stop…" he groaned, holding his head, not even able to think straight.

It felt as if thousands of needles were stabbing into his skull. The pain was excruciating, relentless. He clutched his head tightly as if it would explode if he didn't.

Strange knowledge and memories began enter into his mind, flooding it like a dam broke free. Faces, places, names none of them familiar, but all too real.

It felt like he was drowning in someone else's life, each memory dragging him under.

The pain began to settle little by little after what felt like eternity.

Damien gasped for air, his trembling body slowly settling. He tried to make sense of the new memories .

The once unfamiliar surroundings began to feel very familiar, as if he'd known them all along.

Just as he started making sense of those memories , the sound of the door opening interrupted his thoughts.....

'who the f*ck is it now?' he thought in annoyance

And this time a handsome young man stepped in. His bright red hair shone like fire, and his crimson eyes filled with disdain and disgust making Damien feel like a prey. His lips curled into a sneer as if the very sight of Damien disgusted him.

"Nice scream. What happened,is this another one of your... you know, attention moments?" The red head said with a smirk.

"Wow it looks like Cedric really went all out on you, huh?" He said looking at my broken body.

"Why don't you just die, so much for just existing "

His voice filled with mockery, each word stuck like a dagger.

Leaning in slightly, he said with his face scrunching in disgust, this time his tone serious "Don't get too comfortable. You're nothing but a stain...meant to be wiped out sooner or later."

As he turned to leave, his parting words echoed coldly in the empty room.

"Enjoy your borrowed time, Alden."

After the red head left silent took over the room again.

The memories started to settle, the name Alden that should have felt unfamiliar now seemed strangely familiar as the memories began to settle.

He wasn't Damien anymore he had become Alden Draven, illegitimate son of Draven family. And the redhead? None other than Rodrick Draven, his half-brother.

But that wasn't the real problem.

Now, he knew exactly where he was...

"Fuck. I transmigrated into my favorite novel... and of all people, as Alden Draven—an extra who's meant to die in the early chapters...."
