Chapter 8 - THE DREGO NAME

Reid always hesitated whenever there was a choice to make. He was a coward through and through. Always taking the safer choice or just accepting his fate where there is no choice.

But that only applies when it's by his own terms. His own decisions, willingness and acceptance. His own respite.

He was a firm beliver of ...

'better to go wrong in your own path than to go right on another's path.'

That's why he was feeling conflicted by the floating screen before him.

Reid heaved a dejected breath as he continued to stare at the system screen. There were many things he did not like.

It was the system missions.

Compulsory ,that was the word that ticked him off, with the word monthly greatly eating at Reid's concious.

Despite that, Reid was unconsciously smiling , a bit happy as the word monthly clearly insinuated that he won't wake up finding that it was all a dream.

" I needed to level up anyways !

Getting a skill in return is a great bonus !"

Reid shrugged as he took a look at his surroundings for the first time since coming out of the crystal cacoon. It wasn't because of his incompetence but because he was already trying out his perception.

Reid was probably the most skeptical person about his immediate surrounding.

Now given the chance to exploit this habit by the addition of his perception stat.

He had already mapped a 500 metres radius with him as the centre.

To his right were seven massive tunnels that extended to the Abbys. They were dark and filled with the occasional bat of different sizes and eye color. At least in Reid's perceptive dormain that is.

Reid didn't know what lurked further along the tunnels and he was not even bothered to find out.

His destination was to his left, just one tunnel. It's enterece jugged and eerie.

Reid could feel a magnetic pull coming from the left and he assumed it to be spiritual energy.

He came to this conclusion after analyzing the system mission description which emphasized the opening of a dungeon entrance using three exclamation marks.

Ding !

[Dungeon Entrance detected !!!]

He concluded that the dungeon must emit energy that draws in spirit beasts hence the name spiritual energy. He also realized that spirit cores feed on this energy.

With that analysis Reid looked at his left and decided to test his limits wanting to know what his stats are based on.

He wanted to establish a baseline for what an average human with an average of 5 points across the board can do. He wanted to understand how his stat points scale with real- world ability.

Deciding to start with constitution and speed, Reid bolted out electrifying speed.

He used his 500 metres perception range as a finish line.

At the finish line was a huge rugged stone left of the tunnel.Reid appeared right next to it after counting approximately 50 seconds since running. Reid had used the huge rugged stone as a land mark to know the end of the 500 metres after tuning of his perception dormain off.

He then repeated the procces countless times before coming to a conclusion.

Taking 50 seconds to run approximately 500 metres sums it up to 10 metres per second.

Using this metric it was safe to assume that 1 speed point enables him to run at a speed of 1m/s.

He was also taking into account his recovery speed in between sprints , trying to measure his constitution. Although constitution would encompass different things like his physical defence, his stamina and recovery rate,Reid tried focussing on the last one.

But it was all for naught. There were too many variables and he could only make assumptions for now .

With that in mind, he continued heading towards the dungeon entrance in search of spirit beasts.

----

Thousands of miles from Reid's current position, a party of seven elites from Castle Drego were camped at the entrance of the Antari jungle.

" Young Lord, the scouts are back ."

" They sure are fast , aren't they? It's only been a day since we got here.?"

The Young Lord spoke as he sipped his wine in a nonchalant way.

" Well ..they are elites from Castle Drego Young Lord." Raizier answered.

" Would you stop calling me that? "

" Calling you what Young Lord? "

" That! What do you mean Young Lord !! You are my brother Raizier !! "

Raizier was dumbfounded, loosing his composure for a moment.

Regaining awareness the coldly replied,

" I am a bastard Ramsey!! Nothing will change that, well until I make you the Antari Region Overload."

The bastard sword of Drego. That was his known name. He was the most talented Drego to be born in over a thousand years, his talent only slightly comparable to Lorcan Drego, the current lord of House Drego.

some even say that his potential was greater than the current lord and that it was the only reason he was heavily invested on to the same extent as the heir of House Drego.

Looking at the other bastard sons of the Drego lord, one could clearly see how much the Drego lord valued him.

The disparity was too huge such that one would think that he was being groomed as the next heir.

This prompted jealousy and even attempted assassinations on his life when he was younger. But in time, all came to respect him and his monstrous growth as he kept on surviving and showing the world that he was a worthy investment.

Tales of his valor and might started spreading all over the the Draki Region. So much that whenever the Drego House was mentioned, his name came next.

It was truly a feat worthy of envy, even from his half brother Ramsey.

Ramsey always felt like he was lucky that Raizier was born a bastard. He felt that if his brother was a legitimate child, he would not be the heir of House Drego and that infuriated him.

Although his talent of the sword did not lose out to many, it still wasn't enough to be called once in a thousand years genius.

Fearing loosing his status to Raizier, some of the assassination attempts were credited to him.

What was worse was that the Drego lord was aware that some attempts made, were by Ramsey but he did not do anything.

He was even proud. He felt that is son was growing, he felt that having a challenge on Ramsey's way was beneficial and he also felt Ramsey should know that everything he had was given, not earned, and he Lorcan Drego can take it away.

Simply by giving Raizier a name.

The Drego name.
