Chapter 1 - MATE.

PROLOGUE.

DAVIDA.

Her familiar voice rang continuously in my ears, leading me to flip my eyes open as I stared into the darkness, which slowly brightened, the sounds of clashing items echoing in my mind.

'Where am I?' I pondered, turning to look around, only to find myself on some kind of battlefield, warriors clashing swords against one another.

The chilly breeze flowing around hit me, causing me to shiver and grit my teeth against one another as I wrapped my hands around myself, suddenly feeling exposed, empty, and ordinary.

'That was weird,' I thought, planning on moving forward when...

"Help him" The voice came again, clearer this time but weak.

'Who is he and how was I supposed to help?' I pondered, feeling stiff as I walked towards the battlefield, where the voice was coming from.

People were still fighting one another, and one of them was running towards me, a sword in his hands, raising it and attempting to strike me.

I immediately snapped my fingers, expecting the familiar glow, but instead, all colors drained out of my face, and my lips parted.

'I was powerless, How could that be?' I wondered, my legs wobbling as I now realized why I felt empty earlier. It was because my powers were gone, but how?

I decided to use my hand to stop the sword from hitting me, but instead, it went through me, and the wielder also passed through me to fight someone else.

Words couldn't describe my surprise, as I stood there, statue-still, my eyes fixated on the snowy ground, widening, unblinking.

What was going on?

Just then, the voice rang out again.

"V-vida, y-you are my only hope; only you can h-help." Her voice cracked, sobs interrupting her sentences.

'Why does she sound so much like...?'

"Who are you, show yourself?" I yelled as I looked around briskly, not seeing anyone, despite stepping into where the voice was coming from.

Just then, something moved so fast across from me, before moving to my back and breathing on my neck, sending goosebumps down my skin and making me clench my hands together into fists.

I took in a deep breath, feeling the smell; the mixture of roses and cider was familiar and calling, so I turned around only to see her in her usual white clothes, covered in blood, with cuts all over her face, and a knife prodding from her belly.

Beneath her feet was the snow covered in blood, dripping from her.

I immediately slammed my eyes shut, and opened them again, blinking repeatedly to be sure it was her I was seeing and not that I was hallucinating, but it was indeed her.

"Diane?" I called out in disbelief, my voice coming out as a whisper but she just scrunched her face up, the side of her lips curling into a grin, before she let out a groan, the smile disappearing from her face.

I made to move immediately to her aid, when she coughed out a large amount of blood, dropping to her knees, tears surprisingly forming at the brim of her eyes.

"I beg of you". She pleaded, before closing her eyes and disappearing as I moved forward, screaming.

"Noooooooooooo". Just then, I jerked awake, beads of sweat gathering on my forehead as I breathed heavily, my chest pounding loudly as Iooked around, realizing I was on my bed and in my nightdress.

Then it occurred. It was a dream.

I placed my hand on it, to stabilize my breathing, saliva forming in my mouth.

'Why on earth did I see her in my dream, pleading for help?' I pondered and got up immediately from my bed, grabbing my robe and wrapping it around my body.

I had to contact her. It's been ages but still, I had to make sure she was alright.

Just as I entered my study, about to slice my hand into the ink jar as a means for writing, my door flipped open, and in came Athena, my personal bodyguard and assistant.

"Luna Queen". She immediately got on her knees, bowing her head as she offered her respect.

"There is a boy outside seeking for you." She added and I froze, my body turning rigid.

'A boy?'.

"What boy?" I inquired, the feeling of dread going through me, as I dropped the knife and folded my arms across my chest while tilting my head to a corner.

"I have no idea, my Queen, but I think...." I didn't even let her complete her sentence before I walked past her, out of my study outside, where I saw a young, small boy, looking tattered and covered with battle wounds.

He was in nothing but shorts and a necklace on his neck. Immediately he saw me, his eyes sparkled with excitement and he ran towards me, hugging my legs tightly.

"Momma". He bubbled, his red eyes glowing, his touch sending shivers down my spine as my wolf growled in my head.

"Mate".
