Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

These few sprinkles were dropped into the six vials.

Then, Lu changed the concentration of spiritual power in his fingers from 10% to 40%. This time when he rubbed his fingers, liquid seemed to drop into the four vials.

Finally, he went to the last two vials, changed the spiritual power concentration to 70% and without even rubbing, a gaseous substance fled from the fingertips. He pushed his fingers into the vials, and once they were full, he closed these too.

He thought for a second and took another vial and repeated the process with 10%, this vial was a little smaller in size. 'I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to want to try poison, but this should do.'

If Lu wanted, he could also make a 100% version, but he didn't think that was necessary. The first was visible and could be used as powder, it was an offensive means because of its visibility and smell. The second was liquid and had no colour but it had a slight taste. The last didn't have smell nor taste, but when one is injected with it, one would be able to feel it in only a few seconds, for the poison to kill, it would take a little longer.

The true 100% in his opinion, has no smell, no taste, and one won't even know how one died. This was not necessary, and it wasn't smart to sell it either. In fact, Yong Lu didn't want to sell it just to earn spirit stones, the bigger reason was that he wanted to know the effects of the poison itself.

If he was in his previous world, he might still act a little sympathetic, but in fact, he had never cared who tested various things, or rather, he'd have preferred the target audience to test it, if possible, but that wasn't something he can decide.

Now that he was in this world, he wanted to fulfil his dream. He still had his own innocence coming from a modern society, so he didn't want to use his own hands to do it. Ruthlessly killing people with no reason, this goes below his moral line, and he isn't willing to cross it.

Especially for him, he didn't have many moral standards in the first place, if he crossed these too, then it wouldn't be a loss of moral or humanity, it would be a loss of mind, and those who don't care about this aren't far from becoming chaotic entities that lose themselves.

Although Yong Lu only saw a short legend in the memories, he heard that there were indeed such entities, among humans and beasts alike, and they would usually cause a lot of destruction.

The state is similar to that of a wandering ghost that is bound to the world because of emotions of desires, and once these desires are fulfilled, the entity will dissipate on its own, so even if one achieves the goal that made them willing to lose their mind, they won't be able to enjoy the scenery afterwards.

After catching himself, Yong Lu shook his head. 'This is something so far away from me, how could I be affected? It's probably because I have just transmigrated… the memories are melting into my mind and the self-defence mechanism of the modern world that has evolved from a short-surviving instinct into a long-term paranoia isn't very fitting for this world of cultivation.

It's no wonder there are always idioms that say it's bad knowing too much. A simple mind in this early stage won't be able to handle it… modern humans have many ways to distract themselves and this doesn't affect them regularly, only some people truly suffer from it, and it's obvious from them how bad this state is… cultivators not only a stronger mind, their instinct of danger is much more prominent, so once they think too much, it'll quickly escalate…'

Yong Lu sighed. In fact, most cultivators would probably never suffer these problems before higher stages. If one took cultivation analogy, his state was similar to someone that goes through the inner demon tribulation. Modern humans are in a constant state of fighting their inner demons, and most people have scars, often described as psychological illnesses.

On the other hand, cultivators barely experience such states at all until they are at a higher stage. After all, their vision is too limited. The world is so large, and low-level cultivators might never leave the region of their city.

Modern humans are connected with the whole world, even if this world is much smaller than the large regions in this world… in the end, it's billions of humans connected to each other, Yong Lu doubted even a soul awakening cultivator could experience that much variety in events in their lifetime that is ten times that of modern humans.

As for the stages beyond that, he wasn't sure. After all, the soul awakening was where one would majorly enhance their soul, after completing the whole process, the soul would be much stronger than that of a mortal. He only knew that the second, fourth, sixth and eighth stages had major transformations, and one would gradually transform into the state of an immortal.

'Alas, I tell myself to not concentrate on these things, yet I fall into it once again. It seems that I still need time until I fully grasp the memories and gradually calm my chaotic mind. Who told this world to be so interesting!

It's a shame not to spend weeks and months just speculating and guessing based on the memories. If only this was a good way to cultivate… it probably is in the later stages of cultivation, doing it now only seems like an ant trying to question their raison d'etre.'

Yong Lu checked the vials once again and confirmed there was nothing wrong with them, then he took out a few empty vials and a belt, made a few changes on it, hung it across his shoulder to his pants and position the empty vials all around.

Then he took out a mirror and made a few funny faces.

He tried repeatedly until he found a good face.

'I feel like a child acting like a wanna-be villain in his room behind closed doors. If I try to say some cold words to make me seem like a dark and mysterious character, I won't be able to hold laughing at myself… alas alas alas, how are these actors able to perform so well? Just thinking of saying something they say, the second-hand embarrassment will kill me better than any poison.'

Yong Lu perked up at this thought 'Maybe there is such a poison… a hallucinogen probably, but a poison… the second-hand embarrassment illusion must be deadly for this to work…'
