Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Toxin Researcher Yong Lu looked at his room. He was happy, but beyond this, he also knew his end was approaching.

It wasn't because he was old, in fact, he is only in his late twenties. The reason is simple, being in an environment surrounded by toxins, it's very easy to make mistakes, especially for young personnel. Even though he worked over five years and was careful, he still made the mistake of touching his dearest poison dart frog.

It's the deadliest land animal, and Yong Lu had a special mutation. It's an albino poison dart frog with white skin and slight purple dots spread around his body, especially concentrated on his back.

In fact, it was this mutation that killed him in the end. Only much later was it confirmed that unlike the common deadly poison dart frog, one didn't even need to touch the skin, just being in the same air space will kill you, as the mutated purple dots are pores that passively spray the poison.

"Alas, it's been such a long time I've spend with you, and I didn't have the opportunity to pet you all this time. Since I'm already infected, give me these few seconds to enjoy."

The poison is a painless one, as soon as one comes in touch, the nerves and muscles stop their activity, and one falls into paralysis and the eventual death. It's very scary, at first one might think it's simple numbness, but in only a few minutes, the whole body stops all activity, breathing becomes difficult, and one may die in various ways.

Saying it's painless is only in comparison with other poisons that make one die of pain, such as the Box Jellyfish's poison, that doesn't numb the nerves but overstimulates them instead. Rather than physical pain, it's painful on the stage of the mind, seeing one's own body slowly stop working until it finally fails.

Yong Lu didn't care anymore and took out the little cute frog with his bare hands. He was in an experimental laboratory and people were looking at him as he sat down and pet the frog. His movements slowed down as the frog looked at him with fully black eyes.

He smiled, more like a strained facial expression, as the sounds came from his throat.

"I didn't… have the chance… to name you…. Haha… you will also be… Yong Lu!"

With the last pet, his eyes closed, and he died.

In a small shack, a young pale man opened his eyes.

He was bewildered, when suddenly, he rubbed his glabella, closing his eyes shortly before opening again. Then, when he looked around, he was shocked.

Yong Lu!

This was his previous life's name, and it's also this one's name.

Unexpectedly, he had transmigrated, and to a different world… a cultivation world at that!

He had read many online novels in his free time, especially various 'gu' and beast taming novels, which often annoyed him as a professional in toxicology. Beyond this, it was also difficult for him to understand the difference between gu and beasts…

In fact, it's understandable to separate them, but then one should also separate water, land and air beasts, as well as have other categories. This is obviously biased against insects! And on top of that, frogs were often count among gu, how could this be?

Collecting his distracting thoughts on his memories, Yong Lu tried to keep his composure. After all, he had just willingly given up the few days he'd have and instead joyfully pet a deadly frog-

'Chrip'

Yong Lu looked around in shock, but he found nothing.

'Chirp'

Hearing this, one might think it's a bird, but he was an expert and knew this was the sound of the poison dart frog. It had a high-pitched repetitive call.

'Chirp'

He looked around and still found nothing, when he suddenly saw a white shite in a mirror on the side. Taking the mirror slowly, he looked at himself.

*Crack*

The mirror fell down.

Yong Lu tried to calm himself as he looked again.

He didn't see it wrong the first time.

In the mirror, there was a pale young man with extreme white skin, long dark purple hair, dark eyes with no whiteness in sight and purple dots on the side of the eyes. He looked at himself again and found that his fingers were normal, but the tips were violet, it didn't look like a congregation of blood, rather it looked natural, even the nails were of this colour.

Finally, he looked at himself and understood – the chirping sound came from himself!

This was too much excitement, he nearly fell down, sitting down, he tried to calm repeatedly. Only after nearly half an hour was his breathing normal.

His appearance wasn't supposed to be like this. But, after calming down, the chirping sound stopped and his eyes in the mirror returned to normal, only his violet hair, pale skin and weird pigmentation remained.

"This… Did I mutate? But…" he tried again and as if by instinct, his eyes became fully black again, this time he also understood that his vision was larger, his throat seemed to be blocked by something, and he made a 'Chirp' sound again. He couldn't go any further in his mutation, in this state it seemed as if only his vision expanded and the violet seemed to become darker, in turn he lost his ability to speak. He turned back again.

Yong Lu tried to repeatedly think of anything plausible, and after much contemplation, he looked weird "A beast in the cultivation world usually becomes more humane as it grows, the main aspect initially is higher intelligence, followed by the ability to speak human words and finally the technique to transform freely between beast and human form.

Am I… doing it backwards and turning into a beast? This… I can't explain it otherwise. I still retain my intelligence, but it seems as if the abilities of the poison dart frog are more prominent when I transform into a beast.

Although the poison is stronger, it lacks the special ability of the albino frog, the sight is wider, it doesn't have the focus nor the motion detection… not to mention my jumping ability, even my tongue didn't change in the form…"

Yong Lu fell into his analytic thinking, even though he didn't know why or what happened, as someone in this field, rather than anything else, he wanted to know the specialty of his own abilities and how far it was from the norm. As for the fact that he wasn't a human technically...?

Would a sane human be so fascinated with frogs, the extremely deadly poisonous type? He had long admired frogs, especially the albino mutation. Now, he had long thrown away the weird situation and focused on his new ability.
