Chapter 14 - The Reverend Mother

Unfortunately, it seemed that that orphan had died about three years ago, and the orphanage is only currently standing by paying rent to the orphan's company. Before he leaves again, he should help them find a solution for this.

Take it as him paying a token of gratitude to the orphanage for taking care of him for 15 years. But before all that, he needs to first do what he needs to do.

Before he could step forward though, a notification suddenly appeared in his mind, coming from the system.

[Welcome back to Terra, Host! Time difference: 12 hours, Time factor: 1:1. All your titles except for those exclusive in Avenidia is currently nullified.]

After reading this notification, Reynald nodded in understanding. Only now did everything made sense. If he remembered correctly, he left Avenidia at 11:00 in the evening. Looking at the sun, he can tell that it is 11:00 in the morning here. But what left him intrigued was that titles were the only one nullified here. Does it mean he can still use magic?

[Correct.] Reading his mind, the system answered his query, much to his shock.

Trying it, he opened his palm, and there, a ball of flame suddenly appeared. Eyes wide open, Reynald analyzed the flame and the surrounding energy and discovered that the fundamental properties of energies in both Terra and Avenidia were more or less the same!

Quickly extinguishing the flame before anyone else can see it, Reynald continued his walk to the orphanage. Fortunately for him, it seems that the roads currently weren't much active, with the streets devoid of people, possibly because of work hours.

Upon reaching a dilapidated black iron gate of a similarly dilapidated two-storied house, he breathed in and exhaled deeply as nostalgia hit him hard. Raising his hand, he held the door knocker ring.

Bang! Bang! Bang! The sound of the ring hitting the rusting iron gate echoed throughout the yard.

Soon, Reynald heard faint sounds of running coming from the other side. With a creak, the iron gate opened, revealing a young, 20-ish woman wearing a religious habit. Her features were fair, differing from her hands that were calloused, most likely due to doing bulking laundry.

"Who is it?" She asked kindly, but upon seeing him, she jumped in shock as she almost breaks her neck looking at his face that was so high. After setting the height aside, she soon frowned, losing the kind demeanor that she initially had.

"Is Mother Lily here?" Reynald asked with a calm, inquisitive voice. "We have already decided two weeks ago that we will remain here no matter what. Please stop pestering us about giving up this land! Tell them that even if they send such a powerful man, we will not bow down!" She answered in a harsh tone.

Dumbfounded, Reynald asked her, "What do you mean? I'm here to see Mother Lily." Still, the coldness remained on the nun's face, "Why would such an esteemed quote-end-quote business person like you want to see the Reverend Mother?" She inquired, staying behind the gate while slowly pushing it close.

Of course, Reynald could see this, but he could hardly care. He could just sneak into the house and talk to Mother Lily unimpeded. Still, with respect, he answered, "Because she took care of me 50 years ago."

Upon hearing that, the nun couldn't help but display a shocked look on her face. With a hint of caution, she asked, "Is that true?"

Suddenly, from the inside, an old yet silvery voice came from the inside, asking, "Amelia, who is at the door?" Turning her head around, the nun who was talking to him suddenly exclaimed from shock, "Reverend Mother, you shouldn't be walking at this time! It's too hot outside!"

"Silly child. I'm not that weak! If I stay on bed too much, I would've really become a bedridden person. I don't like that." The Reverend Mother's voice was obviously displeased at Amelia, not wanting the nun to look down on her.

As Amelia rushed to the Reverend Mother's side, the gate slowly creaked open, revealing to Reynald the old woman speaking. Oddly, despite being the Reverend Mother, she was not wearing the conventional nun attire and instead wore a white shirt paired with a long, brown skirt, while her long hair was tied in a ponytail. On her right hand was a wooden cane with a rosary wrapped around her hand and the handle.

Mother Lily's wrinkly face had a gentle smile on it whilst her eyelids were drooping low in a crescent shape. It was as if even her eyes were smiling. Despite her age weakening her bones, her poise was still as straight and confident as ever as if she was still in her twenties.

"Mother Lily…" Reynald voiced out with a sob. The years have toiled greatly on the Mother, yet it still cannot wipe away her beauty and stature. Mother Lily, upon hearing his voice, inched her head forward and intently looked at his direction. Despite not being able to see clearly, she definitely recognized his voice. "Is that… Little Rey?"

Before Reynald could even confirm what she said, a slipper suddenly flew past his cheeks. Overwhelmed with shock, it was too late for him to notice that the Reverend Mother was swiftly moving close to him. With a "Thwack!", Mother Lily's cane already came swinging at Reynald's shoulder.

"Reverend Mother!" Amelia and the other nuns who witnessed the scene couldn't help but be shock. They did not expect the Reverend Mother to pack such strength and ferocity in her.

"Mother Lily!" Reynald exclaimed, not in pain, but in shock. In his thirty years in Telhaven, he had faced numerous battles where he had faced similar numbers of injuries, some even almost severing some parts of his body. Such a hit from a measly cane wouldn't do anything to him. He would worry about the cane even more. What made him exclaim was the shock upon discovering something; the nun from 35 years ago… she truly hadn't changed a bit!

"Ungrateful little runt! You still have the face to return here?!" She yelled at him ferociously before her left hand shot and pinched Reynald's sideburns, pulled him down to her level, and dragged him inside. Despite being quite strong physically, what the Mother still did stung, making him squeal.

The sight of a 5'3 old woman dragging a 6'5 fit man caused everyone's eyebrows furrow in confusion. 'How did her hand even reach that high?'
