Logan's lips curved into a smile as his fingertip lightly tapped the screen, ending the call and making the caller ID disappear.
Selina, who hadn't seen anything: "…"
Logan asked casually, "Mrs. Reid, didn't you say you didn't want to go public? So why did you change my contact name to something like this?"
Selina's mind began racing.
What did Alice change it to? Could it be something like Hubby or Darling Hubby? It had to be something embarrassing.
Before she could respond, Logan added with a meaningful smile, "I didn't know Mrs. Reid could be so contradictory."
Selina felt her throat tighten. She wanted to explain that she hadn't made the change herself, but admitting someone else did it felt even more humiliating.
Her eyes darted as she decided to double down. "Just because I don't want to go public doesn't mean I don't see you as my husband. Changing your contact name… what's the problem with that?"
Logan's gaze remained amused as he nodded gently. "Is that so?"
"Yes, exactly!"
Seeing that he appeared convinced, Selina grew more confident. "You can change my contact name too. We may be secretly married to the public, but we should still act like a couple in private."
Logan replied with an easy tone, "Mrs. Reid makes an excellent point."
Selina swallowed, still feeling that something was off, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it. "Can I have my phone back now?"
Logan handed it over. "I have a video meeting to attend."
Selina nodded, watching as Logan left before returning to her own tasks. It wasn't until she had some free time that she remembered—she hadn't checked the contact name yet.
Opening the missed call log, Selina nearly fainted.
The Best Husband in the World.
Her brain went blank, and she almost stopped breathing.
Wait…
Selina froze in horror.
Earlier, she had told Logan she wanted to keep their marriage private and under wraps. Yet the contact name was The Best Husband in the World.
No wonder Logan hadn't let her look at the contact name earlier. He had obviously seen it all!
Covering her face with her hands, Selina felt mortified. Did she come off as a complete fool to Logan just now?
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to focus on something else. Opening her photo gallery, she carefully began searching.
None of the photos in her phone featured anyone from the Carter Family.
However, her mother's photo albums were stored at the old house in BW Town.
Pressing her lips together, Selina realized she would have to make a trip back.
Logan finished his video meeting and thought about Selina's contact name. A soft chuckle escaped him.
He wouldn't mind going public, but alas, the name hadn't been changed by Mrs. Reid herself.
"Sir," Jack said, knocking on the door before entering. "We've located the person you've been investigating."
Logan raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
Jack continued, "The person was last known to reside in BW Town two years ago."
BW Town, a small town near City A.
Logan's eyes narrowed. The hacker he'd been tracking had breached Reid Group's computer system five years ago and stolen a confidential file.
With skills of that level, the hacker surely wasn't lacking money. So why live in such an ordinary, quiet town?
Logan smiled faintly, intrigued. "Perfect. Tomorrow, we'll take a trip to BW Town."
Jack nodded. "Understood."
The next morning, Selina woke up early and borrowed a simple, inconspicuous car from Butler Miller. Driving alone, she made her way to BW Town.
After being thrown out by the Clark Family, she had spent a long time living in a small villa there.
The villa, left to her by her mother, had been under the care of Butler Ford. That's why her mother's belongings were stored there.
Familiar with the area, Selina drove down a narrow road leading to the villa. Just as she was about to step into the yard, she heard Butler Ford's pleading voice.
"Mr. Bryant, no, you can't! These are Mrs. Victoria's belongings…"
"Ms. Bryant, I'm begging you, please don't do this. Mrs. Victoria has passed away, and you—"
Selina frowned deeply, quickening her steps.
Then came an angry male voice:
"Outrageous! My sister is now Mrs. Clark, and you're still calling her *Ms. Bryant*—what are you trying to prove? Are you looking down on us? Unbelievable! Even a lowly country butler dares to disrespect my sister's title. You're courting death!"
Before the man could finish his tirade, his hand raised for a slap, the gate to the courtyard suddenly swung open.
Selina stormed in, stepping directly in front of the man. She grabbed his wrist and twisted it sharply.
"Ah!" The man let out a scream of pain, turning to see who had stopped him. When he recognized her, he immediately spat out a stream of insults:
"Selina, let go of me! I'm your elder! How dare you act so disrespectfully, you wretch!"
Selina narrowed her eyes, her gaze cold as it swept over the two intruders: Katie and her brother, Robert Bryant.
She let out a derisive laugh. "No matter how disrespectful I am, it can't compare to the two of you trespassing in broad daylight."
Turning her attention to Butler Ford, she asked, "Uncle Ford, what's going on here?"
The butler sighed in frustration and urgency. "Selina! Ms. Bryant forced her way through the gates and is trying to steal Mrs. Victoria's belongings!"
Robert's face twisted with rage. "What nonsense! How is it stealing? Victoria died as a member of the Clark Family, so her things belong to the Clark Family. My sister is Mrs. Clark, and it's only right for her to take them! What's the point of letting a dead woman keep so many treasures? They'd be better used to honor me!"
Selina's expression turned icy as she swiftly kicked Robert to the ground.
Robert let out a pig-like scream. "Sister, save me! This lunatic is crazy—kill her already!"
Katie screamed dramatically, "Selina, no matter what, Robert is your uncle! How can you be so vicious? Neighbors, come and see—Selina's about to commit murder!"
Seeing Robert trying to get back up, Selina coldly stepped on his back, pressing him down again.
She demanded, "Uncle Ford, how many of my mother's belongings have they taken?"
Uncle Ford quickly replied, "Two jewelry boxes and a watch—it's on Mr. Bryant's wrist right now."
Leaning down, Selina grabbed the back of Robert's neck with one hand and deftly removed the watch with the other.
Robert's humiliation boiled over into fury. "You wretch! That's *my* watch! Give it back! Your mother is dead—her inheritance should go to her elders! The Clark Family raised you, and this is how you repay us? You ungrateful brat!"
Selina sneered coldly, pressing her hand firmly down and dislocating Robert's jaw with a sharp motion. "If you can't speak properly, don't speak at all."
Robert gasped in pain, reduced to garbled sounds as his jaw hung loose.
Katie, suddenly alarmed, started to feel genuinely scared—Selina was acting like a madwoman!
At that moment, the gate swung open again, and James entered. "What's taking so long to grab a few things—Selina? What are you doing here?"
Selina raised an eyebrow. So that's why Katie and Robert had the audacity to try and steal her mother's belongings—James was behind this.
Katie's eyes darted around before she burst into tears, running toward James.
"James, help us! My brother is about to be beaten to death by Selina—she's going to kill someone! Waaaah…"
