Chapter 52 - Called the Police

Katie fanned the flames, saying, "We're all family, right? Victoria's belongings are practically James's as well. But Selina says we have no right to take them and even accuses us of trespassing. She's so unreasonable!"

James's anger boiled over. "Selina! Victoria's inheritance naturally belongs to me now that she's gone. Katie took a few things, and you start fighting over it? Kneel down!"

Selina lifted her gaze, staring at him coldly. "Mr. Clark, are you out of your mind? My mother left a will—what does that have to do with you?"

James choked on his words, sputtering in frustration. "It's just a few keepsakes! And you're being this stingy?! Natalia is going to visit the Carter Family—give her your mother's jewelry to wear!"

Leaning casually against the doorframe, Selina raised an eyebrow. "Natalia? An illegitimate child? She's not worthy."

Katie began sobbing dramatically. "Selina, how can you be so cruel? Natalia is your sister! Her happiness is your happiness. Why won't you help her? What's happened to you?"

James raised his hand in fury. "Ungrateful brat, I'll teach you a lesson today!"

Selina didn't flinch, instead lazily waving her phone. "I've recorded everything that happened today. Trespassing, helping a mistress steal the original wife's inheritance—imagine how that'll play out when it's exposed. Think carefully, Mr. Clark."

James froze mid-swing, his hand trembling in the air.

His face flushed with rage. "You… You… How dare you—"

"At your age, stuttering like this, I suggest seeing a doctor sooner rather than later," Selina said coolly.

Then she added, "So, Mr. Clark, will you let this recording go public, or will you return my mother's belongings?"

James's face turned beet red. He hadn't expected Selina to record their entire exchange.

Katie, seeing the situation slipping away, burst into tears. "James, think about Natalia! How could my daughter have a sister like this?"

James hesitated, his resolve wavering.

Selina, sensing his uncertainty, twisted the knife further. "Seems like you've made your decision. I'll just send the recording to Noah—"

"Return the items!" James shouted abruptly.

Robert stood dumbfounded. The jewelry was worth a fortune, and now they were just giving it back?

Katie seethed silently but couldn't defy James's orders. Begrudgingly, she threw the jewelry boxes onto the ground. "In the end, Selina just looks down on me. Fine, take it. Waaaah…"

Selina ignored their theatrics, not sparing them a glance as she turned and walked into the house.

She carefully placed the jewelry boxes back where they belonged, then began searching through the cabinet. "Uncle Ford, where's the photo album?"

Uncle Ford looked startled. "The album was always here. No one touched it—except Ms. Bryant earlier…"

Selina immediately understood and almost laughed in disbelief.

She rushed outside and blocked the three as they were about to leave.

Katie cowered behind James, crying, "Selina, we've already returned everything! What more do you want?"

Selina's voice turned icy. "Where's my mother's photo album?"

James scowled, his patience wearing thin. "Are you done yet? What photo album? Who would want a dead person's album—it's bad luck!"

Selina narrowed her eyes. "Katie, do you want another slap?"

Katie flinched at Selina's sharp tone, her fear quickly giving way to indignation.

Selina, this wretch who only survived by clinging to the Clark Family, should be groveling beneath her feet. How dare she speak to her like this?

Still furious, Katie couldn't resist provoking her.

"Photo album? Oh, I remember now. That old, tattered thing—I thought it was garbage and burned it."

Katie smirked mockingly. "Didn't realize it was your mother's album? Well, James is right. It's bad luck anyway. Burning it was for the best."

Selina's blood ran cold. In an instant, she lunged forward, gripping Katie's throat tightly.

One word at a time, she demanded, "Burned… it?"

Katie burst into tears. "James, save me!"

James snapped impatiently, "It's just a few old photos! If they're burned, they're burned!"

Selina suddenly felt dizzy. Her mother hadn't left many photos behind. When she returned to the Clark Family, she had left them behind because she knew it wasn't a safe place.

But she hadn't expected Katie to come all the way to BW Town, scheming to destroy her mother's photos!

Selina slowly closed her eyes, then reopened them, her gaze sharp and icy.

"Looks like I've been far too kind to you."

Katie feigned patience, trying to sound magnanimous. "Selina, why let something so trivial drive a wedge between us over a dead person? We're—ah!"

Selina grabbed Katie's head and slapped her twice, hard and fast!

Katie's head snapped to the side, red swelling blooming across her face, completely ruining her carefully applied makeup.

"Wretch! You dare hit me?!"

Selina ignored her and commanded sharply, "Uncle Ford, call the police!"

Uncle Ford quickly dialed the town's police station.

Hearing the sirens approaching, James's face darkened. "Selina, have you lost your mind? Is this worth calling the police? Are you really going to humiliate me over someone who's dead? Let me tell you, you're my daughter—if I'm humiliated, it reflects on you too!"

Selina let out a cold laugh, her gaze icy. "Mr. Clark, whether or not I'm humiliated is one thing, but your reputation is about to be the talk of the town."

James's face turned red with fury. "You wouldn't dare!"

At that moment, police officers entered the scene.

Selina addressed them calmly, "I was the one who called. These two trespassed on private property and deliberately destroyed my mother's belongings. I have recordings and a witness."

The officers, having already been briefed, grabbed Robert and Katie by the shoulders and escorted them to the police car.

James, fuming and desperate, realized he'd need to pull strings to get Katie out. "Selina, you'll regret this!"

Selina slammed the door in his face, taking a deep breath.

Uncle Ford looked at her apologetically. "I'm sorry, Selina. I failed to protect Mrs. Victoria's photos."

Selina shook her head. "My mother probably had other photo albums scattered elsewhere. Uncle Ford, could you help me investigate?"

Uncle Ford nodded.

After the two finished tidying up Victoria's belongings, Uncle Ford mentioned, "By the way, Selina, the person who was tracking you five years ago seemed to have traced you to BW Town."

Selina narrowed her eyes. "Oh? Who leaked my whereabouts?"

"It doesn't seem like anyone leaked anything. That person appears to have found it on their own."

Selina frowned in thought.

She hadn't crossed paths with anyone who would have a grudge. Why was this person so persistent in tracking her?

"Uncle Ford, please keep an eye out in BW Town. If that person tries to question you, find a way to mislead them. And while you're at it…" Selina's lips curled slightly, her brow arching, "figure out who's tracking me."

Half an hour later, Selina said goodbye to Uncle Ford.

As she stepped out of the gate, she bumped into a tall man, the impact making her rub her head in pain. "Sorry, I didn't—"

Her words trailed off as her gaze locked onto a pair of deep, penetrating eyes.

Selina instinctively took two steps back.

Was she seeing things? Why did this man look so much like Logan?

Logan's eyes swept over the courtyard behind her, his expression unreadable. "Mrs. Reid, are you so stunned you've forgotten how to speak?"
