Chapter 8 - Galen and Selene against two lesser demons

Galen watched as Draven's icy onslaught overwhelmed the demon knight, but he had no time to admire the display. One of the lesser demons, a sickly green creature with scales shimmering in the dim light, darted toward him, its wicked blade raised high. Galen tightened his grip on his sword, the blade crackling with Ki energy as he prepared for the attack.

The demon moved with unsettling speed, its blade aimed directly at Galen's heart. But Galen was faster. With a swift sidestep, he dodged the attack, his sword slashing upward in a counterstrike. The Ki-infused blade cut through the air with a sharp hiss, striking the demon's arm and leaving a glowing scar that pulsed with residual energy.

The demon hissed in pain, its yellow eyes narrowing as it recoiled. But Galen didn't give it a chance to recover. He pressed forward, his sword a blur as he unleashed a flurry of strikes. Each slash was precise, aimed at the demon's vital points, and his Ki energy crackled with every movement, enhancing his strength and speed.

The demon parried desperately, its blade clashing with Galen's in a series of rapid exchanges. Sparks flew as steel met steel, the sound of the battle echoing through the clearing. The demon's movements became increasingly frantic, its initial confidence fading as it realized Galen was no ordinary opponent.

"You're not getting away," Galen muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing with determination. He channeled more Ki into his blade, the energy flaring brighter as he swung with renewed force. The demon managed to block the attack, but the sheer power behind Galen's strike sent it staggering backward, its feet skidding across the ground.

The demon bared its teeth in frustration, its scaled body trembling as it tried to summon more strength. But Galen was relentless. He advanced, his sword moving with deadly precision as he aimed for the demon's throat. The demon ducked just in time, the blade slicing through the air where its neck had been moments before.

But Galen was already anticipating the move. He pivoted on his heel, bringing his sword down in a powerful arc that cleaved through the demon's shoulder, cutting deep into its flesh. The demon howled in pain, dropping its blade as it staggered backward, clutching its wounded shoulder.

Galen didn't let up. He raised his sword, the blade glowing with Ki energy, and brought it down with a decisive strike. The demon's head snapped up in time to see the blade descending, but it was too late to react. The sword cut clean through its torso, splitting the demon in two. Its body crumpled to the ground, the light fading from its yellow eyes.

Galen exhaled sharply, pulling his sword free from the demon's remains. He could feel his Ki energy pulsing through his veins, the battle fueling his resolve. He glanced around, quickly assessing the situation.

Selene's eyes narrowed as she faced the lesser demon, a twisted mirror of the one Galen battled. Its sickly green skin glistened, and its yellow eyes burned with malice. The wind around her picked up, responding to her call as she gathered her magic. She knew this fight would demand everything she had, and she was ready.

The demon hissed, its thin, lipless mouth curling into a sinister smile as it brandished its blade. Selene stood her ground, her hands glowing with swirling currents of wind magic. She could feel the air around her vibrating with energy, waiting for her command.

As the demon lunged at her with blinding speed, Selene reacted instantly. With a flick of her wrist, she summoned a barrier of wind, a wall of compressed air that intercepted the demon's attack. The force of the impact sent a shockwave through the clearing, but the barrier held firm, repelling the demon's blade.

"Wind Shield," Selene whispered, the name of her spell barely audible over the roaring wind. The barrier of air shimmered in front of her, transparent yet impenetrable. The demon recoiled, hissing in frustration as its attack was thwarted.

Selene didn't waste a moment. She extended her hand, and the wind responded, forming into sharp, crescent-shaped blades. "Wind Scythe!" she called out, launching the blades toward the demon. The air hummed with power as the scythes cut through the space between them, each one aimed with deadly precision.

The demon dodged, its movements quick and erratic, but Selene anticipated its every move. With a subtle gesture, she redirected the wind scythes mid-flight, curving them around to strike from unexpected angles. The demon couldn't escape; the scythes sliced through its scaled skin, leaving deep, bleeding gashes.

The creature howled in pain, its sinister smile vanishing as it realized the threat Selene posed. It leaped back, attempting to create distance, but Selene was relentless. She raised her arms, and the wind around her surged, spiraling upward into a roaring tornado.

"Cyclone Surge!" she shouted, directing the tornado toward the demon. The ground trembled as the cyclone tore through the clearing, uprooting trees and flinging debris into the air. The demon was caught in the maelstrom, its body lifted off the ground and spun around violently. It thrashed and struggled, but the winds were too powerful, pulling it deeper into the heart of the storm.

Selene's eyes glowed with determination as she maintained control over the cyclone. She could feel the strain of the powerful spell, but she pushed through it, her will unwavering. With a forceful motion, she brought her hands together, collapsing the cyclone inward with a deafening roar.

The winds converged, crushing the demon within the vortex. Its anguished screams were drowned out by the howling wind, and when the cyclone finally dissipated, the demon was left battered and broken, its body crumpling to the ground.

But Selene wasn't done. She could sense the demon's faint life force clinging on, refusing to die. With a graceful spin, she gathered the remaining wind around her, forming it into a sphere that crackled with energy.

"Tempest Sphere," she intoned, her voice calm and commanding. The sphere of wind magic hovered above her hand, swirling with destructive power. Selene sent it hurtling toward the demon, the air around it distorting with the sheer force of the spell.

The Tempest Sphere struck the demon with a thunderous impact, exploding in a blast of concentrated wind energy. The ground shook as the spell unleashed its fury, and when the dust settled, the demon was gone—obliterated by the force of Selene's magic.

Breathing heavily, Selene allowed the wind to calm, the air around her returning to a gentle breeze. The battle had been fierce, but she had emerged victorious.

"We should help him," Selene said as she looked at Lucian who was locked in battle with the demonic beast. "No, look at him, I think he can defeat that demon. Orion trained him well" Commander Draven said with a smile on his face.
