Chapter 5: Don't underestimate me
The carnivorous rats became apprehensive when they saw their prey increasing the distance between them, They quickly burrowed into the ground and gaze chase, Their speed increased a few notches, Directly surpassing Lin Mu's pacing speed.
Lin Mu realized that he wouldn't be able to keep the distance between them if this continued, At this rate they'd catch up in less than a minute.
With nothing left to do, he began slowing down his steps. He decided to take of his shirt and rap it tightly around his left wrist.
He managed to cloth his wrist the moment his movements were no different than walking.
One of the carnivorous rats instantly popped out of the ground in a rush within 1 meter of Lin Mu, It bared it's serrated teeth at him aiming to take a bite at him.
" Now!" Lin Mu who was already expecting this turned around in a rush, His sharp eyes honed in on the carnivorous rats opened maw filled with grotesque serrated teeth.
"Say 'ahhh,' you overgrown sewer rat!" he sneered, bracing himself.
With a cold gaze, He smashed his cloth binded wrist into the carnivorous rats mouth, The rat was left stunned, not expecting it's prey to offer it's arm up to it.
Of course Lin Mu wasn't that stupid, While the carnivorous rat bit down on his wrist, He used his right hand and grabbed at the carnivorous rats neck.
All this happened in the blink of an eye, Even the quick carnivorous rat was left stunned, Not realizing when Lin Mu had managed to grab it's narrow neck.
"I'm not done yet..." Lin Mu revealed a sinister grin.
Crack!
Lin Mu clenched with all his strength and twisted his wrist, snapping the beasts neck. The instant the beasts eyes lost any sign of life it's body quickly began fragmenting.
"Hah! Guess you're not so tough now, huh?" Lin Mu quipped, shaking the glittering dust off his hand. "I'd give this fight a solid 2/10 for difficulty." Not waiting for the others to catch up, Lin Mu quickly resumed his pace, Immediately after he began running again, A carnivorous rat popped out of the dessert and took a bite at him.
" Ha!, Too slow!" Lin Mu sneered at the sight, He was quick enough to run before it's fangs had any chance of sinking into his Achilles heel, Narrowly missing him by a hairs breath.
The carnivorous rat that missed it's chance sank back into the blood red sand, it popped it's head out of the dessert and stared silently at Lin Mu who was speeding away with it's 13 companion's who chased after Lin Mu.
If one looked closely, They'd be left stunned when they noticed the trace of frustration and anger in it's blood red eyes.

Several Hour's later...
" And this makes 13 " Lu Xin snapped the last remaining Carnivorous rats neck and like it's predecessors, it's body quickly fragmented into several glittering specs of light.
"Ugh, finally. I was starting to think they'd unionized against me," he grumbled, dusting off his hands.
It wasn't so easy to continue killing the carnivorous rats after his first kill due to the fact that the rats became more united each time a comrade of theirs
died.
" Thank God I was lucky enough to stumble upon that oasis and climbed up a tree to regain my strength. if not, I don't think I would've been able to run for that many hour's."
Fortunately, Lin Mu kept going and by employing various different tactics, he was finally able to kill the Carnivorous rats.

Lin Mu's eye's gleamed with excitement due to the fact that from within the rats fragmented body that scattered into dark starlight, a round pill that gave off a dim light appeared in his palm.

' Who on earth would pick no?, of course my answer is yes ' Lin Mu said with excitement, His heart began racing at the thought of acquiring something after all his hardship.
Immediately after he brought out his smartphone and clicked yes on his phone, An orb of light emerged from the void before him.
' Just what glorious treasure shall I be gifted? ' Lin Mu's body trembled with excitement, His heart became overcome with joy.
The shinning light shimmered for a while before losing its splendor and from within it, An item emerged and fell into Lin Mu's hands.
" What kind of foolish joke is this?, You gave me a shitty stick? " Lin Mu felt the urge to curse at the system but out of fear he decided to hold back the torrents of abuse in his throat.
"Should I start a fire or use it as a back scratcher?" Lin Mu deadpanned, tossing the stick between his hands.

" At least answer my questions before you act your mind " Lin Mu's lips arched into a forced smile while his body slowly scattered like earlier, Turning into glistening fragments of sand and scattering within the wind.
Though he didn't show it, he was excited because of the fact that he would finally get to leave this damned blood red dessert.

A scorching air blew through Lin Mu's parlour and his body quickly reconstructed from scattered grains of sand from his feet up, Before his body emerged once more.
" Well that was refreshing" Lin Mu shook his body like a drenched rat in the rain but instead of water, What fell of his body were blood red grains of sand.
' Yes, My grueling efforts were not in vain. ' When he stared at his hands, Lin Mu was relived to realize that the two items he had acquired in that blood coloured space were still there.
He stared closely at the dim pill in his hand and a status screen appeared before his eyes.
