One day, Shanks wearing a white opened shirt revealing his torso, a red waistband and a brown shorts is eating with luffy wearing a white shirt with red outlines and a grey short in makino's bar in their home village.

Luffy is sitting next to Shanks in the bar, each of them has their own plate.

Luffy asks while eatins his meat:

"Hey Shanks, how long are you staying here in the village?" he said looking at him with big eyes.

Shanks then answer pretty enthusiastically looking back at Luffy:

"Oh, we have been working on the base for a year now. We probably have 2 or 3 round trip before sailing for good to the north." he said a bit excited.

Luffy his mouth full of meat says:

"2 or 3 left?" a bit disappointed.

Makino then looks at them with a nostalgic smile saying ´those were nice memories..´.

Luffy then promised with a huge smile:

"Until then, I will learn how to swim!" he said excited.

Shanks looks at Luffy and he says:

"Great idea! I am counting on you.".

Then, suddenly; A group of bandits aggressively enter the bar and ´menacingly´ request alcohol (by the bandit leader):

"hey there~ we are bandits and we are evil so give us 500 barrels of alcohol.".

Everyone in the bar were surprised but they were cool about it as they knew Shanks's crew could beat the hell out of them very easily, so they acted nonchalantly.

Then, there is Luffy. He is casually eating a fruit.. A fruit? Luffy is eating the gum-.. the nika nika no mi.

(narrator be in the story for a moment but don't worry im just trying to make it funny a bit, tell me if its bad, and btw can the author talk like that in the Light Novel? I feel like no)

Hence, makino answers kindly:

"I am really sorry mister bandit but we sold all of our last alcohol.".

After that, the bandit leader tries roast makino but not gonna lie, he is not funny.

Shanks then offers his bottle of alcohol to the bandit leader softly:

"Dang, im sorry. Looks like we drank all the alcohol but you can get my bottle, I didnt drink it yet.".

But then, the bandit leader ungratefuly and bitterly reject it by breaking it on Shanks's face.

"Don't fool with me! Don't you know who I am? my bounty is at 8 millions of berries, do you think one bottle is enough!? dang, think of me as a V.I.P!" the bandit leader said arrogantly before leaving.

Everyone in the bar laughed and mocked Shanks when the bandits left and Luffy was pissed off.

"How can you laugh and let yourself be pitifully beaten!?" Luffy exclaimed annoyed

"No, its fine luffy alright? just killing for no reason is more childish than manly." Shanks said before holding luffy arm who was walking away.

"Luffy where are you going?" Shanks says concerned.

Luffy's arm start to stretch out as Shanks holds his arm while he is walking away.

"W-wait..?" Shanks said not understansing the situation before taking back control of his consciousness:

"Luffy..? your arm??" Shanks said shocked.

Everyone in the bar looked at luffy's arm and were shocked as luffy's arm stretched from Shanks holding his arm to Luffy walking to the door.

Luffy looks towards Shanks, where his stretched arm is.

"AA? WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY ARM?" Luffy says shocked and slightly scared.

Shanks concerned asks:

"Luffy..? did you eat a fruit? a fruit that tasted bad?"

"Uhmm.. yea.. there was that one fruit I ate from that chest* Luffy said before pointing to the chest Shanks kept preciously.

Shanks looks at where Luffy is pointing and start worrying.

"W-wait.. THAT CHEST? LUFFY YOU ATE A DEVIL FRUIT! THE NIKA NIKA NO MI!"

Luffy wonders:

"Nika.. nika no mi…?"

"that is SO COOL!" he said excited

"NO IT IS NOT LUFFY! YOU CAN NOT SWIM ANYMORE! Devil fruits makes the user unable to swim! Even if they learnt and learn!" Shanks exclaims loudly.

"Wait.. I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SWIM?" Luffy exclaims scared.

"You damn IDIOT!" Shanks just yells at Luffy.

"Can't believe what you did.." Shanks said before sighing.

"Well, Nika nika no mi is the power of imagination but we are hiding it from the world government by calling it the gum gum no mi so you can just think its gum and stretch yourself.." Shanks said desesperately

"REALLY!!??" Luffy screams excited and eager to test those new powers.
