Chapter 15 - Rogue Incursion

As they drove down the road to the border line of the kingdom Lily contemplates why the rogues would be stupid enough to challenge the border patrol. They are a very skilled set of warriors who have been trained to take down large/wild groups of creatures in squads of 2 and 3 wolves. Most of the other kingdoms sent their own warriors to be trained the same way so that their borders weren't rampaged or pillaged. Getting closer to the area Wade said to meet him at Max could start smelling blood in the air and see smoke drifting up off the mountain top we had yet to get over.

Lily looked a bit panicked seeing the smoke so Max reached over to hold her hand as they pulled up to the outpost. The smoke was from a bon fire that had rogue wolves's corpses piled high, but burning nonetheless. Lily made sure the hoodie was hiding her ears and tail as well as putting sunglasses on. Getting out Lily walked over to Cassie as Wade was checking her over to make sure she was okay. "This isn't good, man. This group came out of no where like they just dropped out of the sky. The first patrol squad was coming in after finishing rounds and was attacked before they could get inside. The second and third squads ran out when they heard the fighting. There were ten rogues in all, but 7 of them were killed because of how savage they were. Three have been restrained with silver rope and tranquilized with wolfsbane. They are being held in the cells," Wades said to Max guiding him to where the prisoners were.

Max stepped to the cell doors noticing their eyes had a green glow and their breath seemed to smoke even though it wasn't cold. Seeing several scars it was hard to tell if there was a written spell on them or if it was old scarring. Stepping close to the cell Max spoke with his Alpha voice, "What possessed you to attack the werewolf kingdom? Who sent you?"

They all flinched as they were fighting the urge to tell the truth. One shook so bad they began whimpering from their resistance to the order. "Tell me now who sent you?" Max repeated laying on his Alpha aura to push for an answer. "Weee.....were told.....to run..past....outpost," the one on the left said still struggling. "Why? Who gave you the order?" Wade demanded.

Their eyes glowed a brighter green before they all screamed in pain their eyes and mouth liquefying instantly. Hearing a gasp to his left Lily made her way into the room. She held her hand over her mouth in shock as the rogues disintegrated in front of us. "What? What happened?" she asked trying to comprehend what she just saw. "If I had to guess, someone was controlling them. I'm not sure who. Wade make sure when we get back to bring me the list of creatures we have had contentions with. While it may not be someone who started a fight it could be someone whose work we over looked. Put the ones who have the most to lose from a reject deal first and we'll start our investigation from there," Max said as Wade nodded making his way up stairs to continue collecting clues to this mess.

"Hey you okay? I know that couldn't have been something you've seen before," Max expressed trying to comfort her. "Its okay. It just.... reminded me of my past. I know it sounds strange, but the glowing eyes were kind of familiar. It will come to me, " Lily said trying remember. "Don't worry about it. If it helps us to figure out who's behind this then great if not we will find out some other way. How as Cassie? Was she hurt?" Max asked.

"No, fortunately. She was on her way here with her squad when the attack happened. That's probably how Wade got here so fast. She did mention that they felt funny like their energy wasn't their own," Lily said trying to puzzle this problem out. We hadn't had a border breach in almost 20 years, but now at a time when heads of state are changing an incident like this happens.

"We will figure this out. Wade and Cassie have a handle on this so you know your father will want a report from you seeing as how you were here," Lily said stirring them towards his car, "If you wouldn't mind dropping me off before you go see him that would be appreciated." He knew she hated going to the mansion as mother and Alisa couldn't act cordially towards her to save their lives. Nodding in agreement we make our way back to the Royal City stopping at Lily's apartment first.

Stopping out front Max comes around to open the door for her helping stand. "Thanks Max. I really didn't want to deal with your mother right now, and goddess only knows what Alisa is doing. ," Lily chuckled as she spoke about putting Alisa in her place. "Its good to know that Alisa won't bring you down like she used to do back in high school. The teachers then weren't any help at all being to scared because of her status. I heard you graduated early. Was it to get away from Alisa and her supporters?" Max asked seeing her fidget a bit.

"Yes and no. I wanted my freedom from them and the family. That's why I traveled so much before I came back to settle down. I didn't want to go back to the Palace and deal with your mother and Alisa on top of doing too much work for dad. I wasn't into slave labor and people knew me from having to talk over contracts with me. Besides I enjoy what I do now and no one can tell me to quit. We'll talk more when you come back tonight. You are coming back or do you need to stay because of this investigation?" she said trying not to seem anxious about being alone.

"I plan to be back tonight. It might be late though, do you think I could get a key to your apartment?" Max asked her. Pulling a key out of her purse she hands it over saying, "I had a feeling I would need to give this to someone just didn't think it would be you," she said with a cheeky smile. Whistler purred as she wrapped her arms around him, "Don't be away too long I promise to make a special meal tonight, okay?"

"Hmmmm, I smell what I want for dinner right here. How about it, just a taste babe?" Max whispered in her ear smelling her arousal floating off her. "Only if your lucky," she said swatting him away giggling as she went up stairs. Oh Goddess that woman will be the death of me.
