Chapter 10 - 10. Ape Man

The head of this strange weapon was aimed at Dave's head, which if the strike was successful, Dave's face would be caved in now and he would be dead straight up. However, due to his survival instincts kicking in, Dave was quick to get himself out of the path as the stone head of the weapon slammed into the wall of the building he was resting on, creating multiple cracks and causing the point of impact to cave in.

Dave moved out of the way, creating a reasonable distance between him and the attack, just enough for him to buy time and get a better view of who attacked him. Surely, this person was one of the invaders with a plumpy body and scruffy hair and beards all over his face as the creature groaned with disappointment. It looked very primitive, almost likened to the ape men and Dave could get himself to understand what species it was but he had no time to ponder on it.

Right now, he needed to survive this invader!

He had gotten some minutes of rest and when he assessed himself, he had regained some of his stamina back to make some certain movements. They may not be as effective but it was enough to help him escape.

"What now! Tch!" Dave hissed with his eyes glued on the ape man that had attacked him. The ape man yanked his primitive hammer-like weapon, with a rock head, from the wall before serving Dave an annoyed look. It was not happy to have missed, considering that this was supposed to be a surprise attack and now the element of surprise that it hoped on was not going to be effective again since Dave has noticed him.

Dave was breathing a bit faster than usual when he looked at the status of his stamina and expressed a relieved smile. The rest was enough to add about 10% increase to his stamina, speed and other overall stats. Just like Zony had announced in the many notifications that they saw, they gained mana and different abilities that seemed to work like game skills. Dave was familiar with this and it was easy for him to make such a connection.

However strange it appeared that the Earth they knew had turned into what was akin to a game, Dave had come to life with it as his new reality until he or someone else or group of people are able to reach the top of the eldritch tower that was summoned earlier.

Dave's eyes moved quickly over the ape man as he sized him up, checking if it was a creature he could defeat or one that warranted that he would run. Just like him, the ape man was worn out and probably attacked Dave as a last resort since he wouldn't guarantee that the human would not kill him when he had the chance. The world, at the moment, was the survival of fitness.

…Kill or be killed!

Dave folded his fist and raised it in front of him, his eyes intent on the ape man in front of him. He was not going to drag this fight for long because Cassie was probably waiting for him. Nonetheless, Dave understood that the ape man might not let him flee and that was why he was ready to fight and the moment he got an opportunity, he would storm off at his greatest.

Graaaa~

The ape man growled and beat his chest like a warrior chief as he brandished his warhammer, finessing it with practiced movement while glaring at his opponent. Dave was not flustered by this because he knew that the ape man was only bluffing. The injuries on the ape man's body was enough to tell him that. He might be putting up a show to make Dave back off or fear but it was obvious that the ape man was not at his peak. Dave, on the other hand, was just exhausted. He had gotten a few scratches on his body but that was not a problem.

Dave exhaled and controlled his breathing as he prepared to fight the ape man. Without wasting any time, the ape man attacked first, running towards the human and swinging his weapon while aiming for the centre of the human's head.

Dave stepped back and jumped away, allowing the rocky head of the hammer to land on the floor. He glanced at the point of impact and noticed a tiny crack as well, similar to the one on the wall. Dave couldn't ignore this and it spoke volume of the ape man's strength if the invader could still do this despite the injuries he was seeing on his body. Perhaps, the ape man was not bluffing.

Dave swallowed loudly. 'We should be at the same strength level even as injured as he is.'

He assessed his opponent objectively, putting into consideration the setback the ape man had. Nonetheless, this was a battle and not an avenue for him to show any form of sympathy. If he didn't deal with the ape man, Dave would become the victim in no time. Dave pushed forward, using the one attribute he had in the fight — his speed — to his advantage. They might both be of equal strength but Dave was certain that he was faster. He had calculated the movements and strikes of the ape man and they were nothing he couldn't dodge.

Although Dave believed himself to be faster, the Ape man's speed was nothing to underrated either. If Dave made one misstep too late or in the wrong direction, the ape man was ready and quick enough to land his strike and that would be very devastating for the human.

Dave was already at Level 2 and had a speed remark at D+, and this was considered to be incredible as no one he had met was above D+. Some people were not even in up to the D category as they hung and dangled around the E and F categories. Dave attributed it to being above the average human in terms of his physicality. His body building and knowledge of fighting had paid off in the best way, seeing how he had an advantage over the average human.

Dave clenched his left fist tightly while using the right to gesture to the ape man to attack again.

"Let's fucking go."
