"As I said, it was my matter. You just take care of your matters and I will take care of mine," When she said these words, the light smile she had on her face earlier had vanished. She was very serious.
Vernon frowned. From how serious her demeanor had changed, he got more curious about what she was waiting for.
She wasn't even thinking about it in her mind so that he could eavesdrop.
He decided to stay with her and find out her secret. After living a lifetime of not knowing or/and understanding his wife, he wanted to know everything about her actions now.
He went and sat beside her and crossed his legs while humming a tune, looking around the room.
"Why are you sitting here?" Helena couldn't help but ask him.
Vernon stopped humming and turned to her, "I am taking care of my matters? Isn't that what you told me to do?"
"..." Helena took a deep breath to stop herself from cursing him out loud before speaking, "What matters are you taking care of by sitting beside me?"
"That's my matter. I don't want to tell you," Vernon said casually and ignored her, continuing humming and whistling once in a while.
Helena's lips twitched. This man clearly doesn't want to talk to her anymore. She turned her head away from him and ignored him as well.
The huge suite turned silent just like that. Casual humming was heard from Vernon once in a while but except that, there was no other sound.
After a while, Vernon heard Helena's inner thoughts again, [What is this man trying to do sitting beside me? If he stayed like this, how can dad give me in front of him? This man only knows how to cause trouble. Should I just knock his head and make him unconscious?]
Vernon subconsciously covered the back of his head with his hand and looked warily at his newly wed wife.
He was shocked beyond his words.
She thought of knocking him unconscious just because he was sitting beside her? How evil!
For a second he wanted to leave the room to save his life from her but his curiosity got the better of him and decided to stay.
He had to find out what Helena was waiting for.
He understood that whatever her father was bringing her now was very important.
So important that she could use her wedding reception as leverage to get it from her father.
He moved away from Helena. Saving his head is important right now.
Helena looked at the man as if she was looking at an idiot. She really couldn't understand any of his actions.
"Can I ask you something?" Helena finally spoke to him.
Vernon looked at her. He doesn't know why but he felt his heart skip a beat when he heard her.
After the wedding, this is the first time she took the initiative in speaking to him. He wondered what she wanted to ask. He did not hear anything from her inner voices either.
Vernon nodded.
"Why did you do that?" She asked in a soft voice.
"What?" Vernon did not understand what she was referring to and asked in confusion.
"The pregnant woman. No matter how much I think about it, I couldn't understand why you did that. You didn't want to marry me? But you could have told me, right? I would have stopped the wedding. Why do you have to do that?" Helena's voice trembled at the end.
From the moment of their wedding, she had many things to worry about. Her priority lay on her mother's ashes. But that doesn't mean that what Vernon had done did not hurt her.
Everything had started since his actions after all.
But no matter how much she thought, she couldn't understand his actions.
The day before the wedding, he was completely fine. He talked happily with her on the phone the night before. He was as much enthusiastically waiting for their wedding as she was.
But she could sense the difference in the way he treated her today.
She was hurt.
Vernon heard her thoughts and felt a pang of pain in his heart.
He could sense her sadness and did not know what to tell her. He can't exactly tell her that she would turn into a villain in his life in the future, right?
She was already calling him stupid on one side and idiot on the other side in her heart whenever she looked at him. If he told her those words, she would definitely take him to the mental hospital and reserve a room for him as his now legally wed wife.
"That…" He tried to form some words to speak but he couldn't. Still he tried to speak.
But before he could speak anything more, they heard a knock on the door.
Helena frowned but Vernon sighed in relief as he jumped up in joy, "There is someone at the door."
Helena looked at him, "I can hear that as well." [Idiot.]
"..." He felt that he made the right decision not saying anything to her.
Helena looked at him again and talked to the person outside, "Come in."
"Helena," It was her father.
"Father," Helena heard his voice and immediately stood up. She walked to him, without even giving a glance at Vernon.
Vernon did not care about her actions. He knew that whatever was in Father Ford's hands was what she was waiting for. He was curiously looking at his hands trying to find what he was holding.
But it was in a bag and he sadly did not have the power of looking through the bag.
After rebirth, the only 'superpower' he got was mindreading. But that power did not apply to everyone around him. Only Helena.
What a wasteful power he got? He wished he got something more powerful.
Helena looked at her father and asked, "Did you get her?"
Vernon frowned when he heard her words. 'Her? What did she mean?'
