Chapter 2 - The Thing Called Despair

'In my world, magic was everything. We were ranked by how strong our magic is and I was among the E rank; not too strong, not too weak.

I did everything I could to get stronger but nothing seemed to be working, I worked crazily hard to progress but all my efforts turned to waste. I couldn't even take care of my poor family and they ended up being killed by the higher-ups who think they had power over the entire world. Desperate to keep me alive, they used all their powers to change my looks, as such, they could not protect themselves. I had to watch them die miserably. The only thing I did was cry and cry like a baby.

Even after that, I still could not achieve anything meaningful until one day, I came across a little black cat lost in the bush. Initially, I wanted to walk past it but something kept drawing me to it and the moment I picked it up, I felt a strange dark energy flow into me from the cat.

The animal was no ordinary animal, instead, it was a monster created from the most purest dark energy. A monster capable of turning into a sword. I made a contract with it, a contract of master and slave... Funny enough, I am the slave instead of the other way round.

But... ever since I came across it, my life changed. I became a totally different person, the little light in my life was swallowed by the darkness I welcomed and my life became kind of a mess. I sought revenge and I killed every one of them that destroyed my family... And as I killed, I killed without mercy just like the way one butchers a meat.

I made sure everyone that made my life bitter paid dearly, I really didn't care who they were or the relationship we once had and before I knew it, I had killed every one in my life even those I took as friends because why... Because they weren't actually my friends.

I was suddenly left alone, it was just me, my darkness and the devil's gift to me— the cat. They were all I had.

But everything was 'okay' until now... Why the hell was I summoned into a place I know nothing of and why is it now of all time? Secondly, who the hell is this baby that thinks he can kill me with just a word?! Tsk! Dreaming... I Klein have never been defeated and will never be'.

As soon as the elf boy whispered the spell, he played the violin once more and everything began to fade.

"Unlike other elves, I am the most gifted of all," the elf boy said while playing his instrument. "I have the power in my lips, the power to destroy things but unfortunately, I can not repair. Once I speak a word, it happens and I can not reverse it. Sorry that I had to use my power on you, friend but nothing should stand in my way. I am free at last and I must use this opportunity presented before me to cause more chaos. Hahahaha."

"So you aren't even the one behind this ungodly sight," Klein whispered, but it was loud enough for the elf boy to hear.

"How is it that you are still breathing?" The elf boy asked, stunned to see Klein alive while the man behind him was already dead. 'No one has ever escaped my spell so why is he still alive or is it that I have lost half of my powers after being sealed away for decades? No! That can't be. Even if I have lost almost all of my powers, I am still strong enough to kill anyone I want to, take for example, that man... He is dead which means I still have some powers left. This kid... This kid... He is different '.

"I know what you are thinking but let me break it down for you," Klein said and stood up from the ground where he had fallen earlier as a result of elf boy's spell. "I know you can draw negative energy from the atmosphere and that is how your spell works."

The elf boy's eyes widened in shock. "Ho-how did you know?" For as along as he could remember, no one knew the source of his power.

'Initially, I wasn't born this way. I was naturally born without powers unlike other elves, this caused my father so much pain because as the elven king, why couldn't his son inherit his great powers and be a role model to other elves?! I was beaten, maltreated, and treated like a common thief. My mother, the one and true elven queen was killed by my father and he had another elf take over her place. When they could no longer put up with me, I was thrown into a place that reeked of negative energy. I was left there to die but instead of dying, I didn't. I instead consumed all the dark energy inside that place, it was a strange occurance but it changed my life. It made me strong and then I thought I was finally going to impress my father but what did I gain in the end? I was called a demon and chained in the worst place, and had my new powers sealed but before I was sealed, I made sure to annihilate every one of my kind, leaving me the only survival of my race. Unfortunately, I couldn't unseal myself and only ended up keeping myself alive. Luck being on my side, a recent occurance took place just recently that shook my world and before I knew what was happening, I was released and pulled to this place. I don't know what happened and why it did but I am happy because I am finally freed. But I thought I was going to become the ruler of this world by killing everyone and taking over entirely, but then this boy appeared. Just like me, he seemed to be from another world entirely but unfortunately, I don't know anything about him or the kind of power he has. Nonetheless, I can't let him live or he'll bring about my demise'.

Klein stared hard at the elf boy and then chuckled. "I know that look in your eyes, you want to kill me, isn't it?"

The elf boy was taken aback but it only lasted for a few seconds as he quickly took hold of himself. "Since you know that I want to kill you, how about you surrender?" 'Even if I can't kill him, I'll make him become my servant. This way, he'll forever be under me'. "Let's sign a master and servant contract."

Klein chuckled, a low, menacing sound. "You think I'd surrender to you? You're not even the one behind this chaos and a contract, you say? I'm not interested in being your servant.

The elf boy's face twisted in rage, and he raised his violin. The air around him began to distort, as if reality itself was bending to his will.

"You dare to mock me?" The elf boy spat, his voice dripping with venom. "I'll show you the true meaning of power!"

With a swift motion, the elf boy drew his bow across the violin's strings. A blast of dark energy shot towards Klein, but he didn't flinch.

Instead, Klein raised his hand, and a wave of dark energy emanated from his palm. The two energies clashed, causing the air to ripple and distort.

The elf boy's eyes widened in surprise. "How...how are you resisting my spell?"

Klein chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "You see, I also use dark energy. But unlike you, I don't need to rely on the negative energy in the atmosphere to cast my spells."

The elf boy's face paled, and he took a step back. "That's impossible," he whispered. "No one can wield dark energy without external sources."

Klein shrugged. "I'm not just anyone. And my dark energy is far more potent than yours."

With a swift motion, Klein sent a blast of dark energy towards the elf boy. The elf boy tried to defend himself, but Klein's attack was too powerful.

The elf boy stumbled backward, his eyes wide with fear. Klein pressed his advantage, sending wave after wave of dark energy towards the elf boy.

The elf boy tried to retaliate, but Klein's attacks were relentless. He was slowly gaining the upper hand, and the elf boy knew it.

Just as Klein was about to deliver the final blow, the elf boy suddenly disappeared into thin air. Klein's attack struck the ground, sending rocks and debris flying everywhere.

Klein's eyes narrowed, his senses on high alert. He knew the elf boy was far from defeated, he was hiding somewhere.

"Instead of hiding, come out and let's finish what we started," he said aloud. Despite the main chaos happening around them, Klein was least interested in that as he had his whole mind solely on the elf boy. "Don't make me find you..."

Meanwhile, the elf boy who was hiding behind a fallen wall clenched his fists. As he listened to Klein's taunting words, he could not help but boil with anger.

'A little kid is trampling on my pride and there is nothing I can do about it? I can't believe that there is nothing I can do about it... I can't even use my curse spell the second time because I used half of my energy to survive back in my world while the remaining half was drained out of me the moment I used the spell. Is this going to be my end?'

"Is it really true that nothing good will come out of me?" He wailed.

While the elf boy was downing in his misery, in the thing called despair, Klein appeared behind him. Placing his hand on the elf boy's shoulder, the latter trembled and tried to move away but his movements were suddenly restricted by Klein.

"What do you want from me?" The elf boy grunted in dismay. "I just wanted to make my dream a reality, is that a crime?" Despair written over his beautiful face.

Klein sighed deeply. He knew this feeling; the feeling of being helplessly weak and totally useless. He had wanted to take the elf boy's life in return for trying to kill him but after listening to him, the pain in his voice as he spoke and after seeing the unsettling anguish in his eyes, he decided to let him live. Not only because of that, Klein felt that the elf boy had some potentials in him so it would be a waste killing him.

"Making your dream a reality isn't that bad... But the process you're following is what I don't agree to," he said to the elf boy. "I am not going to kill you again but on one condition."

The elf boy was taken aback, he didn't see this coming and though he was relieved that he was no longer going to die, he could not still believe that he was being toiled by a human... A kid for that matter.

"You don't look pleased," Klein said, reading the elf boy's facial expression. "Do you then want to die? If that happens, your race will forever be extinct and your dreams will turn to dust."

The elf boy's eyes dropped, his shoulders slumping in defeat. He knew he had no choice but to accept Klein's condition. Reluctantly, he nodded his head.

"I agree," the elf boy muttered, his voice barely audible. "I agree to your condition."

Klein's grip on the elf boy's shoulder tightened. "Good," he said, his voice firm but not unkind. "Now, let's hear your dream. What is it that you want to achieve?"

The elf boy hesitated, unsure of how to share his dream with this human who seemed to hold his fate in his hands. But something about Klein's expression put him at ease.

"I want to rule this world," the elf boy said, his voice growing stronger with each word. "I want to show them all that I'm not weak, that I'm not a disappointment."

Klein's eyes narrowed, his expression unreadable. "And how do you plan to achieve this goal?" he asked, his voice neutral.

The elf boy's eyes flashed with determination. "I'll do whatever it takes," he said, his voice dripping with conviction. "I'll kill, I'll destroy, I'll do everything in my power to make sure I'm the one on top."

Klein's expression didn't change, but the elf boy sensed a flicker of interest in his eyes.

"I see," Klein said, his voice low and thoughtful. "Well, I think we can work together. But first, you need to understand that there are consequences to your actions. You can't just kill and destroy without thinking about the repercussions."

The elf boy's face twisted in frustration. "You don't understand," he said, his voice rising. "I've been powerless for so long. I just want to be strong, to be in control."

Klein's expression softened, and he released his grip on the elf boy's shoulder.

"I do understand," he said, his voice gentle. "But there's more to being strong than just killing and destroying. There's strategy, there's planning, there's compassion."

The elf boy's eyes widened, surprised by Klein's words.

"Compassion?" he repeated, his voice skeptical.

Klein nodded. "Yes, compassion. You can't just destroy everything in your path. You need to think about the people, the innocent lives that will be affected by your actions."

The elf boy's expression changed, his eyes narrowing as he thought about Klein's words.

"I never thought about it that way," he said, his voice softer.

Klein smiled, a small, enigmatic smile.

"That's because you've been too focused on your own pain," he said. "But I'm willing to help you see things from a different perspective. Are you willing to listen?"

"As long as I get what I want, I am willing to follow you and do whatever you want me to do for you," the elf boy replied.
