Chapter 11 - New friendship

'Hmpf! That stupid girl will regret treating me this way!' Isabella frowned as she walked away from Luna. Feeling good to regain her freedom.

To think she would need to rely on someone who ruined her plans for so long.

After turning the corner, she stopped. No longer putting on the bravado of elegance and fashion. 'But what will I do now? The witch council will kill my soul if I don't deliver the children.'

She started thinking about how to lure the children. 'Either way I'm dead, but there is a higher chance I survive that stupid woman's attack.'

Countless ideas kept entering her head. But each one ended with Luna going after her.

That fact wouldn't bother her if not for the disappointed look on her face.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" She shouted out. Feeling a mix of emotions inside her. Why did she feel this way? It's not like she has ever cared about human life before. But now the thought of doing it felt wrong.

'Ugh Why does it have to be so hard all of a sudden!' She walked through the village, lost in what to choose.

BOOM!

An explosion in a tavern nearby alerted her. Intrigued, Isabella walked slowly towards there, interested in what's going on.

There she saw the fight between Morgan and Luna unfold.

'I don't need to intervene; she is on her own.' She told herself, but even after saying that, she kept watching, unable to walk away from it.

BOOM!

The second punch came, sending the slayer through the walls of the houses nearby. Rubble fell everywhere around,

If this had happened a few days ago, she would've probably jumped for joy, but now she felt a burning sensation inside her screaming to take action.

She swiftly got up to the roof of the tavern, making sure she would be clearly visible to everyone.

"HAHAHA!" Loud laughing echoed throughout the entire town. "It's fine now. Why? Because I am here!" Isabella stood on top of the tavern, almost pissing herself out of fear.

The thought of having her last vessel destroyed scared her, but she just had to help Luna. Not for some grand reason but because her heart told her so.

"What kind of trick is that!" Morgan threw a rock her way, barely missing.

In the meantime, his soldiers surrounded Luna, who was just finding her way out of the rubble.

"Fufufu! How can you not know? I am the great disciple of the demon king!" She ran off while screaming that at the top of her small feline lungs.

Some of the soldiers took her words seriously, hesitating for a split moment.

This split moment was good enough for Luna to escape by thunderstepping between them.

Just to cause more commotion, she kicked a few of them into each other.

"You imbeciles! Ignore the cat and go catch the elf!" Morgan screamed, running after her.

But for where he overwhelmed Luna in strength, she beat him in agility. Outmaneuvering him through the town.

His muscular body couldn't keep up with the pace at which she moved and turned, making him crash into houses and trip over.

'Nice, I lost him!' She ran through a small alley, but on the other side was met with another group of soldiers. 'Oh, come on!'

Isabella dropped from the roof onto Luna's shoulder. "Go up." She commanded her.

It persuaded the slayer due to her earlier sacrifice, making her comply.

After jumping up, the only thing the soldiers under could do was shoot using their crossbows.

"How about we do some limit testing?" Luna smirked towards the cat.

The witch didn't share the same excitement as her friend. Going pale as she held onto the girl who jumped from one roof to another, getting filled with bolts.

Luna laughed soundly. Stacking a bear coat on top of the passive regeneration almost nullified the projectile's effects. "It tickles so much!"

The bolts fell back to the ground, and the slayer made her jump to the other side.

"Can't you just stop doing reckless stuff?" Angry Isabella scratched Luna's scalp, not leaving anything behind as it regenerated faster than her claws could slash.

"But you have to agree, it's fun to act so free!" They ran off outside the village.

Once Luna made sure no one was following them, she stopped.

"Now tell me, why exactly did you help me?" She confronted the black cat. No matter what her answer would be, she would let her stay. All because it was more fun to travel as a duo.

"Well..." The cat started to sweat, thinking of an excuse but finding none that would be convincing. Isabella got fully red on her face. "I need your protection until I regain my power!"

Luna could see that those were not her true intentions. She rubbed the cat on her belly and picked her up. "Let's go then; maybe the next village won't complain."

"Yeah, I don't understand either why they would be so rude." The cat said while climbing back up Luna's arm.

"But which way to go..." There were two paths in front of them, one leading towards the mountains and the other back into the forest.

"My crimson eye is telling me that we are close to the dwarven kingdom." Isabella said calmly.

"Oh, it's a real power after all?" The slayer was about to praise her but realized that the cat just read out information from a sign nearby. "..."

She walked closer to read out what the signs said.

<- Bardowik 50 km

10 km Dwarven kingdom ->

"So where do you want to go?" The cat asked.

Luna had business in the dwarven kingdom related to the accessory Vulcanus wanted to create.

"Let's go to the dwa..." She spotted a symbol of a vulture carved out under the sign. "... to Bardowik." A wide smile on her face.

'They will for sure tell me how far from home I am.' She began walking that way. The journey was going to be long and boring; at least it should have been, if not for what they saw at the horizon.

"Who is that?" Isabella pointed at the same person.

A person on a horse approached slowly. They had a cloak and a big straw hat.

His whistling carried a beautiful melody. The most bizarre part about his appearance was an enormous axe on his back.

He approached the duo, but instead of talking to them, he searched for a piece of paper in his stallion's bag.

After finding the right one out of a bunch, he put it side by side with Luna's face, looking at it with as much care as possible.

"Hello? Is something the matter?" The slayer decided to approach the man on friendly terms. "Are you perhaps looking to hire a monster slayer?"

She couldn't forget that she was all out of money right now, so getting a job was pretty high up on the priority list.

This question made the man on the horse laugh. "You could say that I am looking for a slayer." He got off of his horse.

"Oh, and what kind of request do you have?" She hoped that it wouldn't be too unreasonable.

"Let me introduce myself first." The man bowed in front of Luna. "My name is Ace, a bounty hunter." He showed Luna a poster with a toddler's face on it.
