Chapter 13 - Walking forest

A barrage of spells and projectiles flew her way. Spells, daggers, arrows—you name it. She dodged most, but with the sheer quantity of them, it was impossible to avoid damage.

The fact that she was up against slayers meant that they would be around the same level of power as Morgan, if not higher.

'Tcht I can't just take them forever; I will run out of energy sooner or later.' Luna took out one of the daggers stuck in her body to fight; thanks to it, she was able to parry a few of the oncoming attacks.

[New magic: Water]

[New passive: Dragon's Will]

[The system grows stronger.]

'What kind of passive is that?' She frowned. Regeneration was pretty self-explanatory, but this one would be anyone's guess.

[Dragon's Will]

[Daze anyone weaker than you.]

A wall of text manifested in her mind on command, explaining what the ability did and how to use it.

Few mages launched a devastating attack together, sending it Luna's way.

A waterfall of scorching magma dripped down the walls onto the plaza where she stood.

'I want to put it out with water.' It was a stretch, but she hoped that this would also let her use the water magic.

Instead of casting it, information flooded her brain on how to use it, almost like she had just gained an entire book's worth of knowledge.

[Black Sea]

A torrent of water filled the area around her, stopping the magma in its tracks and giving her a much-needed window of opportunity.

Instead of running away, though, she decided to weaken their forces even more.

She spotted the weakest link in the few enemies close to her.

A sudden power-up wasn't part of her plan, but she took full advantage of it, changing her target to the mages high on the wall.

[Thunder Step lvl 3]

In an instant, she appeared in front of them. She closed her eyes, inhaling deeply.

She opened her eyes, filled with fury. Purple sparks shot out and trembled the entire area around her.

The three men standing in front fell to the ground, too scared to move or speak.

Now that the enemy lost their long-range attackers, she was able to leave without a problem.

The magma and water created a barrier preventing them from reaching her in time.

With a few thunderous steps, she got to the horse where her companion was already waiting.

"How dare you throw the disciple of the ancient demon king!" Isabella hissed at her. "And what took you so long!"

Luna got on the horse and started explaining. "I prevented them from tracking us down for some time. And I got a new dagger!"

Ace's stallion started galloping through the town, creating distance between them and the vultures.

She showed the blade. It was a sacrificial dagger that was decorated in an over-the-top fashion, which she found quite unappealing.

But Isabella, being the fan of everything edgy, fell in love at first sight. "If you don't like it... you could give it to me!" Her eyes were glued to it, not leaving to look at anything else for even a moment.

"Maybe... if we find a weapon that I like, it will be yours." Luna sheathed the blade, being almost a perfect replacement for the dagger she lost in the witch's house.

"I think a rapier would fit you quite well." The cat climbed back to her spot on her friend's scalp. "Anyway, head to the nearest forest; I need some ingredients."

She followed the request, heading towards the closest forest while going in a zigzag pattern across the town. Deciding it's better to be safe than sorry.

Meanwhile, two slayers spoke.

"Captain, she went towards the sleeping forest." One of them reported to his superior.

"Then she is as good as dead, but make sure she doesn't leave it." He answered back to her.

"We are here; you can get down." Luna was about to put the cat down, but was stopped by her.

"I'd rather stay up here." Isabella was breathing heavily; the tone of her voice also changed.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?" She took the cat and put her on the ground.

"Yes... I just feel a bit tired, is all." The cat on her head said. "Anyway, go and find me those ingredients, FAST!" She frowned and then went back to sleep.

List of herbs and different types of grass would be astonishing for just a simple tracking potion, if not for the fact that it was one of the most secretive societies in the entire continent standing behind it.

Luckily the forest they found themselves in was abundant in those resources, letting Luna knock them from the list one by one.

[Thunder Step lvl 3 (MAX)]

Sounds of lightning cracking filled the forest as the girl kept searching throughout it for ingredients.

'Cottontail,' She picked up a few stems before scratching it off of a checklist made from the old bounty posters. 'Check!'

Luna straightened her back and wiped the sweat off of her forehead. 'I'm running nonstop, and she does nothing but sleep.' Her brow twitched.

Almost all of the things she needed were already collected. The only thing missing was a small, shining white flower. No matter how much she searched, there wasn't one that matched the description given.

She decided to call it a day and come back to the horse deep in the forest. They have probably scoured a few square kilometers of land in search of the last thing.

"Hey, horsey!" Luna waved at Ace's horse, now named 'Horsey' to not refer to him as just a horse.

He looked happy as every time she came back, there were fruits for him.

"Oh, you aren't wrong either today; there you go!" She kicked the tree behind her, making tens of apples drop to the ground.

Horsey neighed happily and got to eating them, swinging his tail.

Thanks to not being chased by anyone anymore, she had time to light a campfire and cook some rations for the next few days.

Using the cooking skills taught in the Wolf Corps, she prepared rabbit meat jerky in no time at all.

rumble

The ground under them shook loudly and intensely.

'What's happening??' Luna pulled the sleeping Isabella close to herself and jumped up onto the nearby tree's crown.

RUMBLE

An even louder quake went through the entire area.

All of the birds nearby flew away, making the slayer jealous that she didn't have a skill that would let her levitate.

Earth kept shaking and moving upwards.

ROAR!

That sound was almost deafening, waking up the cat and scaring off the horse.

"What's going on?" Isabella asked, panicking about the sudden situation.

Luna lost her balance and fell on the ground, sliding on it like a child in a water park.

thud

She fell to the ground and looked at the terrifying sight in front of her.

A turtle the size of an entire town stood in front of her with its mouth wide agape.

What worried her even more was what was inside his mouth.

"That's exactly the flower I told you about!" The witch on her head exclaimed.
