Chapter 1 - Prologue: What makes us humans?

The hum of the car engine resonated softly, a steady rhythm against the silence as I stared out the window at the passing scenery. The cityscape gave way to open roads, and the horizon seemed endless, a canvas for thoughts I'd rather not entertain but couldn't escape.

"The story of humanity," I muttered under my breath, "is one of brilliance tainted by corruption. We've built wonders, reached the stars, and unlocked the secrets of the universe. Yet, here we are, tethered by greed, ignorance, and the rot of a system that feeds on the weak."

I ran my fingers through my hair, suppressing the urge to laugh at the irony of it all. It was almost comical—how humanity's greatest gift, its intelligence, could also be its most damning flaw. I glanced at my reflection in the car window. The serious expression staring back at me felt foreign, a mask I'd crafted with care after that day. The day everything changed.

"Grandfather always said the world was ours to shape," I continued, the words heavy in the confined space. "He believed in me, in my potential to make a difference. And yet..." My voice faltered, and a bitter smile tugged at my lips. "He's gone now, taken by the very flaws he wanted me to overcome."

The memories of him were a double-edged sword. His laughter, his wisdom, and his unwavering faith in my abilities were a source of strength. But his absence—his death—left a void I couldn't fill, no matter how many equations I solved or theories I proved. It was his loss that forged this version of me: the one who hides his laughter, his playful nature, behind a facade of stoic determination.

I shifted my gaze to the folder resting on the seat beside me. "Advanced Nurturing High School," it read in bold letters. A place that promised to cultivate the best and brightest minds, the perfect environment to plant the seeds of change.

"This world needs a revolution," I declared, my voice gaining strength. "Not one waged with weapons, but with ideas, with knowledge. The rotten foundation must be torn down, brick by brick, and replaced with something... better."

I leaned back in my seat, exhaling slowly. "I've played the fool before, laughed and joked as though the weight of the world didn't rest on my shoulders. But not anymore. The world doesn't need Seki Ryota the jokester. It needs Seki Ryota the architect of a new era."

The school's gates were still miles away, but I could already feel the weight of the challenge ahead. "To fix a broken system, one must first understand it. And if this school is a microcosm of society's flaws, then it's the perfect place to begin."

A faint chuckle escaped my lips, surprising even me. Perhaps the old me wasn't entirely gone. "I'll make them laugh one day," I murmured, "but only after I've given them a world worth smiling about."

As the car sped onward, my resolve solidified. The road ahead was uncertain, but my destination—both literal and metaphorical—was clear. Change was coming, and I would be the one to ignite it.
