She's hiding things from him, a lot of things and a lot of secrets.
Rolan wants to find out what she's hiding from him.
Her eyes—the way they look at him, the way they refuse to stay focused on him. When did this all start? Was it three years ago when she had run away from him?
Rolan rubbed his nose, an action he always did to stop himself from thinking too much.
Rose ran to the child lying on the hospital bed, and she really looked sad. For a moment, he would have thought the child was hers.
Her kid? The feeling had just been coming into his mind.
What was the mystery surrounding that kid Rose was hiding from him? Why did he feel like he was connected to that child?
Rose was never pregnant for him once, although they mated many times. At times, he almost felt suspicious of his capabilities or if it was her blood that couldn't carry a child for him.
She had fled from him for many years, and now that he has found her, he won't let her go.
If it was about all her mistakes that she had committed, he forgives her now, and they should just live like a happy couple.
Rose held Tobi's hand, keeping them warm with her hands. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Rolan standing there, looking at her with cold eyes.
She wondered why he was looking at her like that. What bad thing has he got on his mind now? He was unpredictable like a beast. After all, he is a beast—a werewolf and an alpha, for that matter.
"Tobi, you should listen to me very closely." Rose held Tobi gently, bringing her lips closer to his ear, whispering so Rolan could not hear, "When that man is here, don't call me Mummy. Is that clear?"
Tobi nodded, not asking his mummy why she didn't want him to call her that when the handsome uncle with the cold face was around.
Who was the uncle, and why had his mummy asked him not to call her that when the uncle was around? Darius jumped into his mind, filling his head with questions.
He too also wants to know who the uncle is and why his mummy doesn't want him to get close to him.
But he could not ask his mummy those questions. He was a good boy who wouldn't give his mummy issues.
"Yes, I understand..." he whispered back, almost calling her mum, but he stopped himself.
The stern uncle had walked beside them. Tobi stared at Rolan, and Rose had to turn, seeing Rolan beside them.
"How are you, kid?" Rolan bent to Tobi's height, touching his head as if smoothing it.
He had a sweet smile on his face. Tobi closed his eyes, enjoying Rolan's touch. The uncle was very approachable, but his mummy appeared not to be on good terms with him.
"Haven't you got work to do or a place to go, Mr. Rolan?" Rose turned to Rolan and said in a cold and firm tone. She was hiding the panic in her heart.
Rolan was talking to Tobi. He shouldn't interact with Tobi and find anything wrong, and Tobi appeared to like Rolan a lot.
Tobi was her son, and so she knows when he really likes somebody a lot.
Could that be what they call a father and child bond?
That bond—she does not appreciate it. The worst that could happen is Rolan taking Tobi away from her when he finds out that he is his son, and she doesn't want that!
"Why do you look so panicked, Rose?" Rolan asked with a smirk on his face, his eyes were cold, staring at her.
What was it that she was hiding? If only he could get her to spit it out right now.
He drew closer to her unconsciously, his feet taking a step forward, and she moved backward.
"Rolan, what are you doing... in front of a child? Don't misbehave..." Rose mumbled, using her hand to push him away.
The emotions in Rolan's eyes—they were too intense. She could see desire in them. He was coming too close.
He should just control himself.
"What?" Rolan chuckled, getting a hold of Rose's wrist.
What could he possibly do in front of a child? No, what could he not do in front of a child? He could kiss her right here and now. The best thing would be to just tell the kid to cover his eyes and not see bad things.
"Uncle, stay away from my Mummy... I mean Aunty," Tobi said with furrowed brows in his small baby voice, wanting to save Rose, his Mummy, from the uncle. The uncle had pushed his mummy to the wall.
Rose slapped her forehead hearing what Tobi said.
Ha, kids, she sighed. He had just called her Mummy. It wasn't going to be easy for her and Tobi to keep their secret. She laughed bitterly in her heart with sarcastic irony.
"Come on, kid," Rolan ignored Rose, walking to Tobi on the bed. "Do you know who I am? What did you call that lady just now?"
"Nothing," Tobi said, flushing and looking down.
"Oh no, but you called her Mummy," Rolan laughed, looking at Tobi's small face seriously. "If she's your mummy, then I'm your daddy. Come on, say Daddy. Call me Daddy."
"Daddy," Tobi subconsciously called, as if Rolan's words were getting to his head.
Rose couldn't take it anymore. She walked to Rolan, shifting him away from Tobi.
"Stop confusing the boy... he has his own father, unless you want to marry Zara."
Rose's eyes were looking at him with strong determination, as if she wasn't lying. Rolan raised his brow, almost confused by her words. Was Zara really the mother of Tobi and not Rose?
"Have you done enough, Rolan? If you're done, you can leave."
Rose hissed, bringing Rolan out of his confused state.
"I won't leave," Rolan chuckled, finding a seat and sitting with his legs crossed.
"And why is that?" Rose raised an eyebrow, looking at him. She did not like the feeling of his words.
Those words, they sounded like a threat, and she feared he might carry out that threat.
"I'll stay here until when you want to leave," Rolan chuckled, dusting his sleeves and checking the time on his watch.
"Are you for real?" Rose bit her lip and walked to him, her heels clicking on the floor.
"I said leave. Don't you get my words?"
"Get a little closer and I'll leave."
Rolan gestured with his hand, a strange glint flaring in his eyes.
Rose did not notice this and walked closer to him, anything to make him just go away.
As she got closer, she was pulled by her wrist, making her fall onto Rolan. She was sitting on him.
Before she could process anything else, she felt Rolan's fingers cupping her face, and he crashed his lips against hers.
