Chapter 5 - New Paths, Old Love

"Bai Yan…" Liang Yu's voice was dry, like a land parched for rain.

Bai Yan turned her head and looked at him coldly. "Liang Zong, what a coincidence," she said, her tone as indifferent as if she were addressing an insignificant stranger.

Liang Yu's heart sank. The air around them seemed to freeze, and the awkwardness between them spread rapidly. In that moment, he realized that Bai Yan was no longer the girl he remembered.

The pace at the new company was relentless, and the game project that Bai Yan was in charge of was moving forward at full throttle.

However, midway through the project, an issue suddenly arose—the core gameplay design had been leaked to a competitor.

President Zhang was furious, and the atmosphere in the meeting room became tense and oppressive. Everyone in the project team wore grim expressions.

"What happened? The confidentiality level of this plan is so high, how could it have leaked?" President Zhang's voice was low and angry, echoing in the meeting room.

One of the colleagues cautiously spoke up, "I… I think I saw Lin Yue acting suspiciously…"

Lin Yue?

Bai Yan's heart trembled, and Lin Yue's hypocritical smile flashed in her mind.

After hearing the news, Liang Yu frowned deeply. He used his connections and resources to quickly uncover the truth—it was indeed Lin Yue behind the betrayal.

He handed the evidence to President Zhang, who took the file, quickly scanned it, and his face darkened.

Meanwhile, Liang Yu found Bai Yan and, without hesitation, handed her a new gameplay design plan. "I know your situation is difficult right now. This is just a small help from me."

Bai Yan lowered her head and looked at the plan in her hands, feeling a mix of emotions. This new plan was more refined than the one that had been leaked, and it better aligned with market needs.

She raised her gaze and met Liang Yu's affectionate eyes. Her heart wavered.

"Yan Yan, I know I've made many mistakes before, but…" Liang Yu's voice was low, filled with deep regret.

Before he could finish his sentence, Bai Yan interrupted him. "Liang Zong, thank you," she said, taking the plan from him and turning to leave, leaving Liang Yu standing there with a sharp pang in his chest.

Watching her leave, Liang Yu felt as though his heart had been pierced with a knife, but deep within, a glimmer of hope was quietly kindling.

Lin Yue's plot was soon exposed, and she was fired by the company, becoming the target of everyone's ire.

Her face was filled with frustration and regret, but no matter how hard she tried, there was no way to turn the tide.

Bai Yan's project continued smoothly, and she gradually adapted to the new company's rhythm.

But every night, when the world grew silent, she couldn't help but think of Liang Yu, recalling all the things he had done for her…

One evening, after working late, Bai Yan stepped out of the company building and saw Liang Yu's car parked outside. He was leaning against the car door, holding a bouquet of roses.

When he saw her walk out, he stepped forward and handed her the flowers. "Yan Yan…"

Bai Yan froze, her gaze complex as she looked at him, her heart a swirl of emotions.

"It's so late, you…" Bai Yan's voice was soft, like a feather brushing against Liang Yu's heart.

He took a deep breath, pressing the bouquet into her arms and softly said, "You've worked hard. Let me take you home."

The scent of roses lingered in the air, and an intimate atmosphere began to surround them as the night seemed to soften.

Bai Yan didn't refuse. She gently nodded and got into Liang Yu's car.

Inside the car, soft music played, and Liang Yu occasionally stole glances at Bai Yan, a gentle smile tugging at his lips.

Bai Yan also glanced at him, reminiscing about their past, about the bickering and exchanges they had at the old company, and her lips involuntarily curved into a faint smile.

The arrogant, sharp-tongued Liang Yu was now so gentle and thoughtful, it was almost unbelievable.

In the days that followed, Liang Yu went into full pursuit mode.

Every morning, he brought her breakfast, drove her to and from work, and frequently surprised her with little gestures, making her feel like she was living in a dream.

The colleagues in the company had become spectators, eagerly watching the sweet courtship unfold. Some even started betting on when they would officially announce their relationship.

Though Bai Yan still appeared cool on the outside, inside, she had already been softened by Liang Yu's affection.

She started to recall the moments they shared in the old company, the things that had once made her angry now seemed like sweet memories.

One afternoon, Liang Yu took Bai Yan to a high-end restaurant for lunch.

During the meal, Liang Yu gazed at Bai Yan with deep affection, his eyes full of tenderness. "Yan Yan, I know I've done many wrong things in the past and made you suffer a lot. But now, I just want to tell you, I really love you. I hope you'll give me a chance to start over."

Bai Yan's heart raced, and she lowered her head, unable to meet his gaze.

After a moment of silence, she lightly nodded, silently acknowledging his confession.

Liang Yu was overjoyed. He tightly grasped her hand, as though he had just seized the whole world.

However, just as they were basking in the warmth of their happiness, Liang Yu's phone suddenly rang.

He answered the call, and his expression instantly turned serious.

After hanging up, he looked at Bai Yan with an apologetic expression. "Yan Yan, there's an urgent matter at the company. I need to go back right away to handle it."

Bai Yan felt reluctant but nodded in understanding. "You go ahead. Work is important."

Liang Yu gazed deeply at her, kissed her forehead gently, then turned and left in a hurry.

Bai Yan stood in place, watching him leave, a sense of unease rising within her.

She didn't know what had happened at Liang Yu's company or when he would return.

She clutched the bouquet of roses tightly, the thorns pricking her fingers, but she didn't even notice.

"Will he be okay?" Bai Yan murmured to herself, a feeling of unease creeping into her heart.
