Chapter 10 - Stranded at Sea

Savanna's POV

I sat on the small paddle boat, the gentle rocking of the waves making it hard to focus. The sun glimmered on the surface of the water, but my mind was racing. "wait here, I know someone who can help with our predicament.", Sean had said, and then he disappeared into the depths, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I glanced around, the vast expanse of the ocean stretching endlessly in every direction. It felt surreal—one moment they had been searching for sea shells then rocketing across the ocean at a speed that I'm pretty sure only merpeople can achieve, and the next, he was gone. I bit my lip, trying to quell the rising tide of anxiety. What if something happened to him? What if he didn't come back?

My eyes darted to the horizon, searching for any sign of land, but all I saw was water, glistening under the sun. I couldn't help but feel a mix of frustration and worry. Wasn't it supposed to be a fun date? I sighed, leaning back against the boat, the wood cool against my wet back. Some dry clothes would be nice. The thought of being stranded out here gnawed at me. The ocean was beautiful, yes, but it was also vast and intimidating. Are those shark fins I see off in the distance, I ask myself not knowing if anxiety is getting the better of me.

"Come on, Sean," I muttered. "Where are you?" Trying to keep my mind occupied, thinking about the conversations we had shared, the way his smile lit up when he spoke about his world beneath the waves. I had been so enchanted by his stories, but now, all I could think about was the uncertainty of the moment.

Time ticked by slowly, each minute stretching into what felt like an eternity. I took a deep breath, hoping that he would return soon. After all, he had to come back. He wouldn't just leave me here, would he?

I glanced out at the endless blue around me again for like the tenth time, the waves gently rocking the small paddle boat. He has been gone for over 30 minutes now. Being stranded was starting to feel less like an adventure and more like an exercise in patience. I pulled out my phone, but of course, there was no signal. With a sigh, I turned my attention to the bag the girls had packed for me.

"Okay, let's see what we've got," I mumbled, rummaging through the contents. The fizzy water was refreshing, and I couldn't help but smile at the thought of Molly and Brooke getting a kick out of this predicament. This would definitely make for some interesting stories later.

As I picked at the crackers, grapes, and cheese cubes, the girls had packed me, to hopefully to settle my growling stomach. Why not document this surreal experience? A picnic in the middle of the ocean! I pulled out my phone again and started snapping selfies, trying to capture my best "stranded on the ocean" look. I imagined the laughter and teasing that would ensue when I shared the photos with my bestfriends.

After half an hour of goofing around, I decided to change out of her green one-piece bathing suit. The girls had packed and extra one. It felt good to to get back into something dry. Though the process was a bit of a challenge on the swaying boat. Balancing while trying to pull off my wet bathing suit was like a game of twister, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all.

Finally, I managed to slip into the royal blue swim top with its delicate gold chains and black bottoms with a gold chain around my waist. "They're, much better," feeling a little warmer now in dry clothes. I leaned back against the boat, sipping on my fizzy water, and decided to just enjoy the moment. After all, it was a unique experience, even if it wasn't quite what I had in mind for the day.
