Chereads / The Mask That Always Smiles / Chapter 58 - Buttface

Chapter 58 - Buttface

After enduring ten more minutes of relentless banter, Kai's patience wore thin. He delivered his ultimatum in a commanding tone: "Alright, ladies. This VR session is solely dedicated to hashing it out. Let's get straight to the point and resolve this matter once and for all."

"You're absolutely right! We gotta hash this out!" Eliza nodded and smiled at Kai.

"Eliza, you in for hashing it out?!"

"I'm a solid 100% primed and ready. Time for you to meet your baker." (She meant "maker," but no one commented on it.)

"Bring it on... let's settle this! #idiot!" Eliza counterattacked with "#NoBrainStupidPerson".

"Is that all you've got? #weak #pathetic #ghostFollowers #crickets."

"Ghost followers? Did Larisa follow me?" Eliza wondered aloud.

Pensée scoffed. "'Larisa' who? What the blue Smurf butt are you on about? #buttface."

"Hey! No fair! You hit me twice in a row and didn't give me time to attack you back. #CheatingDingleberry #idiot #stupid #stupid."

Kai stood by at a loss for words, as he observed the unfolding scene.

Lillian looked at Larisa and gracefully leapt through the slime-coated walls of several buildings made of ivory-coloured slime.

With an exuberant grin, Lillian beamed, "So not only am I invisible like you, but I can also pass through walls just like you can!"

Larisa did this weird twirl thing, like she was on a sugar rush or something; she giggled. "Yo to Yo-yo! Lilly, you're like... wow!!! Yay! Next, you should hop through something solid. Then you'll be a full-grown ghost, just like me! Yes, yes, I think so."

"Larisa..." Lillian paused, thinking about a few things. Larisa just stood there, dying, like a living ghost of what she was about to say.

Lillian uttered, "It's not my new abilities I am... curious about... it's yours... my abilities that you've inherited and shared with me."

"You have abilities?" Larisa giggled hyper-bunny-actively, her laughter tinkling like wind chimes. "Like, let me guess... I know, I know!! You can shoot lasers out of your eyes!! No, no, no!! You can talk to animals like Doctor Doo-Doo Little. That's not it; I got it!! You can wear two left pairs of socks without them looking uncool."

"No, no, no... wait... what?"

"Then what? I am so confused." Larisa's brow furrowed in frustration. She attempted to scratch her head, only for her hand to pass through before unexpectedly making contact with her incorporeal brain.

"The simple... simple..." Lillian's voice trailed off into a soft murmur as she slipped into a trance, her only concern now being not to trip over. Aware that she and Larisa were invisible, as indicated by the closed eye in their menu, she seized the opportunity to make the most of it, moving towards Larisa with deliberate grace.

They found themselves alone, with only the distant sounds of Xinx wreaking havoc in the background, accompanied by occasional screams of pain and agony. Larisa remained suspended in the air, a serene and captivating presence, her eyes locked with Lillian's as if they were the only two souls in existence. In that fleeting moment, the world seemed to dissolve, leaving behind only the gentle connection between them—an unspoken bond that transcended the tangible.

"There's a simple ability," Lillian finally confessed, her voice carrying a soft tremor of vulnerability. Yet, beneath the nervousness, she closed in to kiss Larisa, wondering if this was possible in the VR world or if she would just pass through her like she had with the slime walls. As their lips met, it felt strangely distant, akin to the clunky collision of two square, cube-like hitboxes rather than the melding of souls. The hitboxes really do stink in this game for the character models. Lillian couldn't help but feel disappointed by the lack of sensation; she counted that as a win and a success, regardless.

"Oooh~!!" Larisa delicately traced her lips with her fingers, giggling softly, her cheeks flushing with a #FF69B4 (Hot Pink) hue. Then she raised her arms and drifted upward in blissful euphoria.

"Wowwie! Wow to the max!" Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she floated gently in the air. "I wish you had told me you wanted to do that much sooner, Ms. famous, popular, eBunnee girl, cat person!" she pouted playfully, her ghostly form shimmering with innocence. "I wasn't sure what you were up to. I thought every time you did that, no lies, you were trying to check my hair for fleas or something."

She tilted her head to the side, a puzzled expression on her face. "Humans are so complex; my brain hurts trying to understand things like this," she remarked before floating back off to blissful euphoria in her head.
