Chapter 3 - Overlord 1 vs N

Qin Yi's ears perked up at the sharp hiss of feathered arrows cutting through the air. His body reacted before his thoughts could catch up, and in an instant, he vanished into a blur, reappearing crouched beside a young girl. He clutched her tightly to his chest, a cold arrow quivering between his fingers. His gaze darkened as he realized that if he had been even a heartbeat slower, the girl would have met the same fate as her father. A surge of fury boiled in his chest as he turned to face the culprit, Abutai, the Xiongnu leader who had led his warriors to lay siege to Fancheng. The two men's gazes locked, wordlessly promising violence to come. Qin Yi's jaw tightened as he broke the stare and handed the girl off to a nearby soldier, instructing him to take her to safety. The girl begged him to come back alive, but he couldn't turn back. He descended from the tower, the sounds of battle growing distant before surging back like a crashing tide. At the rear of the Xiongnu forces, Abutai sat surrounded by his generals, his confidence shaken by the cold and unshakable stare from the city tower. But his unease was short-lived as he watched a lone figure emerge from Fancheng, silhouetted against the flames and smoke. It was Qin Yi, mounted on a black warhorse and charging towards the battlefield with the ferocity of a storm. The Xiongnu generals laughed at the sight of one man facing their army, but their jeers were cut short as Qin Yi tore into their ranks like a thunderbolt. His lance pierced through a Xiongnu warrior and sent him flying into his comrades, causing chaos and disbelief among the enemy forces. The Qin soldiers, who had been battered and waning, were reinvigorated by their general's unstoppable might. A spark of hope spread through their ranks, and they surged forward, their blades biting deep into the enemy line. In the midst of the chaos, Qin Yi fought with a ferocity that seemed almost inhuman. The Overlord's Power coursed through his veins, each strike of his lance carrying the weight of mountains. Bodies fell around him, but he felt none of the horror or fatigue. Instead, there was a raw and unshackled pleasure in the power that urged him to strike faster and harder. He forgot where he was and who he was, consumed by the battle and the roar of war. The Qin soldiers followed his lead, carving into the Xiongnu like a pack of wolves. But the Xiongnu were not easily broken. At the rear, Abutai bared his teeth and threatened his warriors with death if they fled. The wavering soldiers stiffened, their fear tempered by the certainty of death should they retreat. Seeing the tide stabilize, Abutai dangled a temptation far greater than fear - a reward of ten thousand horses and sheep for whoever brought him the head of the Qin general. The greed in the Xiongnu's eyes flared, and they were consumed by bloodlust and ambition. It didn't matter that Qin Yi fought like a demon; the promise of wealth and glory was too much to resist. Qin Yi heard Abutai's words above the din of battle, his sharpened senses picking out every syllable. His grip tightened around his lance as he realized that the greed of men would drive them to madness, even if it led them straight into the abyss. The Xiongnu began to close in, encircling him like predators drawn to a single, cornered prey. Qin Yi exhaled slowly, his chest heaving with exhaustion. He had underestimated the enemy's desperation, and his display of power had only ignited their reckless ambition. But it was too late to turn back now. He raised his lance, his gaze sweeping across the writhing sea of enemies surrounding him. A storm brewed in his eyes - calm, deadly, and unrelenting. "If you want my head," he muttered, his voice low yet sharp as a blade, "then come and take it." And with that, he charged forward once more, his lance splitting the air, his black warhorse thundering beneath him. The abyss awaited, but whether he would fall into it or drag the enemy down with him was yet to be seen.
