Chapter 35 - Holiday

A Rare Peace

For the first time in what felt like an eternity, the chaos of battle seemed to pause. Snow blanketed the Ranker world, creating a surreal calm. Gok and Wu-Ji sat in a small mountain cabin, temporarily safe from their relentless pursuit of answers. The Infinite Blade fragment glowed faintly on the table between them, its dark aura subdued by the season's tranquility.

"You know," Wu-Ji said, leaning back in his chair, "it's strange. For all the fighting we've done, this... this feels almost normal."

Gok chuckled, his heavy beard catching snowflakes that drifted through the open window. "Normal is overrated. But I'll admit, it's nice to take a breather. Even if it's just for a day."

A Festive Mission

Their moment of peace was interrupted by a knock at the door. A young Ranker child stood outside, her cheeks red from the cold. "Excuse me, are you the ones called MAD and Wu-Ji?"

Wu-Ji nodded, lowering himself to her height. "That's us. What's wrong?"

The girl hesitated before holding out a tattered scroll. "My village is under attack... not by monsters or players, but by a creature we call the Ice Warden. It comes every holiday season and steals our food, our gifts... everything."

Gok stood up, his towering figure casting a shadow over the girl. "An Ice Warden, huh? Sounds like the perfect holiday special."

Wu-Ji rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a grin. "Let's go save the day, then."

---

The Ice Warden

The duo followed the girl to her village, nestled deep in the snowy woods. The houses were decorated with makeshift ornaments, but the atmosphere was somber. Villagers huddled together, fear etched on their faces.

As they approached the town square, a deafening roar echoed through the air. A towering creature emerged from the forest—a massive humanoid made entirely of ice, with glowing blue eyes and jagged claws.

"Well," Gok muttered, gripping the hilt of his blade, "guess we found the Ice Warden."

Wu-Ji drew his Infinity Dagger, the blade shimmering in the pale moonlight. "Let's make this quick. It's supposed to be a holiday, after all."

---

A Battle of Frost and Fire

The fight was intense. The Ice Warden's movements were slow but devastating, each swing of its icy claws capable of leveling buildings. Gok and Wu-Ji worked in perfect sync, their attacks creating cracks in the creature's frozen exterior.

Wu-Ji used his Zodiac powers to create a fiery shield, melting the ice projectiles the Warden hurled at them. Gok, meanwhile, channeled the Infinite energy into his blade, unleashing a flurry of attacks that chipped away at the monster's core.

But the Ice Warden was resilient. It let out a piercing howl, summoning a blizzard that nearly blinded the duo.

"Any bright ideas?" Wu-Ji shouted over the roaring winds.

"Just one," Gok replied, smirking. "Duck!"

He leaped into the air, bringing his blade down in a devastating swing that shattered the Warden's icy body into a million shards. The blizzard ceased instantly, and the village erupted into cheers.

A Warm Ending

The villagers gathered around Gok and Wu-Ji, thanking them profusely. The young girl who had sought their help handed each of them a small, hand-carved ornament.

"It's not much," she said, "but it's our way of saying thank you."

Gok smiled, tucking the ornament into his coat. "Sometimes, the smallest gifts mean the most."

As the duo prepared to leave, the village elder approached them. "You've given us hope. But remember, true strength isn't just in your blades—it's in the bonds you forge."

Wu-Ji nodded thoughtfully as they walked back into the snowy forest.

Reflection

That night, as they rested by the cabin fire, Wu-Ji glanced at Gok. "Do you ever think about what we're fighting for? I mean, beyond the game, the fragments, the Void... What's the point of it all?"

Gok stared into the flames, his expression unreadable. "The point? Maybe it's moments like this. The small victories. The lives we touch along the way."

Wu-Ji chuckled. "You're getting sentimental in your old age."

"Maybe," Gok replied with a grin. "But it's the holidays. Even warriors deserve a little peace."

As the fire crackled and the snow fell outside, the world seemed, for a moment, at peace.
