Before anything, there was Chaos. It was both nothing and the beginning of everything that would come to be.
From Chaos, the first to emerge were Nyx, the night, and her consort Erebus, the darkness.
After them came Gaia, the earth. The underworld, Tartarus, followed soon after.
Finally, Eros, love and harmony, was born.
These children of Chaos, the Primordials, became the forces that shaped the world as we know it.
Nyx and Erebus resided in an unnamed realm, closest to Chaos and far from their younger siblings.
Gaia, desiring completeness through union, gave birth to Uranus, the sky. She also gave birth parthenogenetically to Pontus, the ocean.
Gaia married Uranus, and their union brought forth the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Hecatoncheires.
Uranus was disgusted by the appearance of the Cyclopes and Hecatoncheires, so he imprisoned them in Tartarus.
Feeling betrayed, Gaia created a scythe powerful enough to wound Uranus. She gave it to the youngest Titan, Cronus, who used it to castrate his father and seize power.
Uranus cursed Cronus, prophesying that he would be overthrown by his own son. Fearing this, Cronus devoured all his children in an attempt to avoid his fate.
Gaia conspired against Cronus, as he refused to free her imprisoned offspring.
The Fates, daughters of Nyx, decided what the new order would be after Cronus's downfall. They chose Zeus, Cronus's youngest son, as their champion.
Yet, despite the might of the Fates, even compared to the Primordials, a god who refused to bow to any other was born.
This god was swallowed by his father immediately after birth, but he would not let this act define him.
Thus begins the tale of the one who defied the world's order.
Poseidon, god of oceans and flows , would leave a mark on the world like no other.
