The camp was in ruins. Smoke curled from the remains of their fire, and the oppressive silence of the forest seemed to mock them. Amara knelt on the ground, her fingers digging into the dirt where the crystal had been moments before.
"It's gone," she murmured, her voice hollow.
Kael staggered toward her, clutching a bleeding wound on his shoulder. "What do you mean it's gone? How could they take it without us noticing?"
Seris wiped blood from her blade, her expression grim. "The raven. It wasn't just a scout—it was a vessel. It must have taken the crystal directly to Raven."
Amara clutched the pendant around her neck, its faint glow a stark contrast to the vibrant light it once held. "I couldn't stop it. I… I wasn't strong enough."
Kael knelt beside her, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "This isn't your fault. They caught us off guard."
Seris sheathed her sword, her gaze sharp. "Fault doesn't matter. What matters is getting the crystal back before Raven uses it against us."

Doubt and Determination
As they packed up what little they could salvage, Amara's mind raced with self-doubt. Selene trusted me with the Light. If I can't protect it, how can I ever hope to stop Raven?
Seris seemed to sense her turmoil. As they walked through the forest, she fell into step beside Amara. "You're blaming yourself," she said bluntly.
Amara didn't look up. "Because it is my fault. I'm supposed to protect the Light, and now it's in the hands of our enemy."
Seris stopped, forcing Amara to face her. "Do you think I've never failed? I've lost battles. I've lost people I cared about. But every failure is a lesson. You're not defeated unless you give up."
Amara met Seris's gaze, seeing not judgment, but fierce determination. Slowly, she nodded. "You're right. I can't let this stop me. We'll get the crystal back."
Kael grinned from a few paces ahead. "That's the spirit. Now let's figure out how to do it without getting killed."

A Glimmer of Hope
Hours later, as they emerged from the forest, the trio came across a small village nestled in the shadow of a towering mountain. The villagers eyed them warily, their faces etched with fear.
"What happened here?" Kael asked, approaching an elderly man sitting near a well.
The man glanced around nervously before speaking in a low voice. "Strangers came through a few days ago. They brought darkness with them. Shadows moved like they were alive."
Amara's heart sank. "Raven's forces."
The man nodded. "They took something from the temple on the hill—a crystal that our ancestors guarded for generations."
Seris's eyes widened. "Another fragment of the Light."
Kael frowned. "How many of these crystals are there?"
"Enough for Raven to gain an overwhelming advantage if we don't stop her," Seris replied grimly.

The Climb
The temple was perched high on the mountain, its crumbling walls barely visible through the mist. The climb was treacherous, the narrow path winding precariously along steep cliffs.
As they ascended, Amara felt the pendant grow warmer against her chest. Its light pulsed faintly, as if responding to something ahead.
"Do you feel that?" she asked.
Seris nodded. "The Light is still there. Faint, but present."
Kael glanced over his shoulder. "Let's hope it's not another trap."

A Test of Resolve
When they reached the temple, the air was thick with an unnatural chill. The entrance was blocked by a swirling barrier of shadows, pulsing with dark energy.
"Raven's work," Seris said, studying the barrier. "It's designed to repel anyone who doesn't have the Crescent Light."
Amara stepped forward, the pendant glowing brighter as she approached. "Then it's up to me."
Kael grabbed her arm. "Are you sure about this? That thing looks like it eats people for breakfast."
Amara smiled faintly. "I have to try."
She raised the pendant, its light flaring as it met the barrier. The shadows recoiled, hissing and writhing, but they didn't dissipate. Instead, they pushed back, threatening to overwhelm her.
"Focus!" Seris called. "The Light responds to your will. Don't let the darkness in."
Amara closed her eyes, drawing on every ounce of strength she had left. She thought of Selene's words, of the lives depending on her, of the trust her friends had placed in her.
The pendant's light surged, breaking through the barrier in a blinding flash. When the light faded, the entrance stood open, the shadows gone.

The Fragment of Light
Inside the temple, the air was eerily still. At the center of the chamber stood a pedestal, and atop it rested a shard of crystal, glowing faintly with silver light.
Amara approached cautiously, her heart pounding. As she reached for the shard, the pendant pulsed again, its light intertwining with the crystal's glow.
"It's part of the same energy," Seris said, her voice reverent. "The fragments are connected to the pendant. That's why Raven wants them."
Kael glanced around warily. "Let's grab it and go before something bad happens."
Amara touched the shard, and a surge of warmth flowed through her. Images flashed in her mind—memories of the Lunar Clan, battles fought to protect the Light, and glimpses of the darkness that threatened to consume it.
When the vision ended, Amara held the shard in her hand, its light merging with the pendant.
"We're one step closer," she said, her voice filled with renewed determination.
But as they turned to leave, a low rumble shook the temple. From the shadows, figures began to emerge—Raven's assassins, their eyes gleaming with malice.
"They've been waiting for us," Seris said, drawing her blade.
Kael grinned, unsheathing his sword. "Looks like we've got their attention."
Amara tightened her grip on the pendant, its light glowing brighter. "Then let's show them what the Light can do."
