The ground trembled beneath their feet as Raven's assassins closed in, their forms shifting and blending with the encroaching darkness. Amara, Kael, and Seris stood back-to-back, their breaths heavy as the air thickened with malice.
"We're surrounded," Kael muttered, his grip tightening on his sword.
"Stay close," Seris ordered. "We move as one. Amara, keep the shard and pendant safe."
Amara nodded, the faint glow of the pendant and the shard in her hands illuminating their immediate surroundings. The assassins hesitated, their glowing eyes fixated on the light.
"They fear it," Amara whispered.
"Fear won't stop them for long," Seris replied. "We need a way out."

Breaking Through
Kael scanned the temple, his sharp eyes catching a faint glimmer near the far wall. "There's a passage over there. Looks like it leads outside."
Seris followed his gaze. "That's our exit. We'll have to fight our way through."
The assassins began to move, their shadows elongating and lashing out like living whips. Seris deflected an attack with her blade, the impact sending a shockwave through her arm.
"Go!" she shouted. "I'll hold them off!"
"No way!" Kael barked, slicing through a shadowy tendril. "We're not splitting up again."
Amara raised the pendant, its light flaring and forcing the assassins to recoil. "Together, we can make it. Let's go!"
---
A Desperate Run
The trio surged forward, Amara at the center with the pendant lighting their path. Seris and Kael fought on either side, their movements precise and relentless.
The assassins swarmed around them, their attacks relentless. One lunged at Kael, but he sidestepped and struck back, his blade slicing through the shadowy form.
"Keep moving!" Seris called, her voice sharp with urgency.
As they neared the passage, the temple began to shake violently. Stones crumbled from the ceiling, crashing to the ground and sending up clouds of dust.
"This place is coming down!" Kael shouted.
Amara glanced over her shoulder, her heart pounding. The assassins were relentless, their forms twisting and reforming no matter how many blows were struck.
---
The Narrow Escape
The passage was narrow and steep, leading into a dark tunnel carved into the mountainside. The trio dashed inside, the light of the pendant illuminating their path. Behind them, the assassins hesitated at the entrance, their forms flickering uncertainly.
"They can't follow us," Seris said, her voice tinged with relief.
Kael frowned. "Or they're waiting for something worse."
The tunnel trembled, a low rumble echoing through the walls.
"They're collapsing it," Amara realized.
Without hesitation, they sprinted deeper into the tunnel, the sound of falling rocks growing louder behind them. The air grew thinner, the light of the pendant their only guide.
---
Emerging Into Danger
At last, the tunnel opened onto a rocky ledge overlooking a dense forest. The trio stumbled out, gasping for air as the mountain shook one final time, sealing the tunnel behind them.
Kael leaned against a boulder, wiping sweat from his brow. "That was way too close."
Seris scanned the horizon, her eyes narrowing. "Don't relax yet. We're still in enemy territory."
Amara held the shard tightly, its light pulsing in time with the pendant. "They'll come for us again. We need to keep moving."
---
A New Threat
As they descended into the forest, the pendant's glow dimmed, signaling safety for the moment. But Amara couldn't shake the unease that clung to her.
"We're being followed," she said quietly.
Seris nodded, her hand on her blade. "Raven's forces won't stop until they have the shard."
Kael smirked, his confidence returning. "Let them try. They'll regret it."
But as the trio moved deeper into the forest, the shadows around them seemed to shift unnaturally. The faint rustling of leaves and distant whispers filled the air, setting their nerves on edge.
Amara stopped, her pendant glowing faintly in warning. "This isn't over."
