Chapter 2 - Unveiling the Core Skills of the System

System. It was the ultimate golden finger, the universal lucky charm, and the only thing that could only be obtained by the protagonist of stories. Rave, having spent his childhood devouring countless novels, had deep insights into how these systems worked. Yet now, one of those fabled cheats was right before him.

"Really?" he exclaimed, his heartbeat racing faster with each passing second. "Is this... that system?"

Rave's trembling hand reached toward the screen, hesitating for just a moment before touching it. To his astonishment, he felt it. It was cold and smooth, like glass. That sensation alone washed away all the stress and despair he'd endured. Tears welled up in his eyes, but this time, they weren't tears of pain or regret. They were tears of pure joy and excitement.

"This is exactly what I need right now... Uhoo! With this, I can finally find out how my parents died!" Rubbing his eyes, Rave remembered all of his emotions with his parents. After they left he got no relative to share his feelings and only remained as orphan. But now the fate showed some hope in his life.

Rave tried to move the screen with a burning question forming in his mind that he needed to clarify.

System have various and unique abilities that can make a protagonist in their own way. But Rave was curios to find out about his systems unique skill that will help him in his journey.

As he did, a slightly larger screen appeared before him, bearing the title Gen-Z System.

"Gen-Z? That must be the name of the system. Excellent name, but... how does it work?" he wondered aloud, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. Below the title were numerous square boxes, most of them locked with blank symbols over them. However, two tabs remained accessible—one with a black theme, the other with a purple theme. Both shone brilliantly, like a starry night sky.

Curiously, Rave tapped the black-themed tab first. Instantly, another screen appeared, as smooth as switching between tabs in a browser. This new screen displayed only a single skill name alongside a brief description.

Mutant Devourer:

An innate skill of the Gen-Z System, granting users the ability to absorb the skills of Geno Beasts by extracting their genes and imprinting them onto the host. However, restrictions apply. Mutant Devourer skill evolves in stages, with each stage unlocking an advanced version of the previous. The first stage is called Gene Feeder.

Gene Feeder:

Allows the host to enhance basic skills like vision, stamina, and strength using the genes of Geno Beasts.

Current Gene:

Human: After killing a beast, the host can eat its flesh to gain Genesys Points.

[System requests the host to use this ability wisely and remain discreet; otherwise, the host will undoubtedly fall into danger.]

A smirk spread across Rave's face. It Shows many thoughts but only one meaning.

"So that's how it works. Hmm... just like a skill-devouring system," Rave muttered, nodding to himself as he opened the purple-themed tab.

Appraisal:

Allows the host to check their own stats or the stats of Geno Beasts and only limited to those no more than one level higher than the host.

Name: Rave Arnet

Gene Level: Gene Adaptation Stage

Attributes:

Attack (ATK): 6

Speed (SPD): 6

Defense (DEF): 4

Skills: Appraisal

Innate Skills: Mutant Devourer

After reviewing his stats, Rave quickly assessed the gravity of his situation. The mutant zebra he had encountered earlier was at least six to seven times stronger than him. And it wasn't just one zebra—there was an entire horde grazing silently nearby.

Rave swallowed hard, his throat dry. Without hesitation, he turned and broke into a sprint. "Why do I always end up in these shitty situations?" he groaned, running as fast as his legs could carry him. He didn't stop until he was certain he was far from the Geno Beasts.

Completely exhausted, his legs trembled, and his chest heaved. "Firs... first, I need to level up and increase my strength," he panted, his lungs burning with each word. "This world... it's way more dangerous than I thought. Even those lowest level of beasts from this world can kill me in fraction of seconds." With that, he collapsed to the ground, drained of energy.

After some rest, Rave felt rejuvenated. Unlike the normal world he came from, the First Genesys World was filled with energy particles and also called as the lifeblood of this realm. Humans here hunted beasts and consumed their meat to mutate their genes. The rewards were immense: prolonged lifespans, unimaginable powers, and strength. But these rewards came with a price. No technology worked here. Humans had to fight as if they were in the medieval era, relying on swords and spears.

Determined, Rave set out to find lower-level beasts. While his system was godly, it couldn't make him invincible overnight. The energy particles constantly replenished his stamina, allowing him to walk for miles without tiring.

After half a day, he stumbled upon a colony of Digger Rabbits. These mutated creatures resembled ordinary rabbits but were far more aggressive.

Hiding on a high slope where they couldn't spot him, Rave observed their movements. The rabbits were nearly twice the size of normal ones, lean and agile. They darted between burrows with blinding speed, their shadows barely visible against the ground.

Curious, Rave activated his Appraisal skill to gather more information on them, even though he already knew their basic details from his high school lessons.

Name: Digger Rabbits

Level: Gene Adaptation Stage

Attack: 4

Speed: 17

Defence: 2

Skills:

Quick Dash: A rapid, straight-line dash to evade basic attacks or close gaps swiftly.

Nervous Shift: Instantly changes direction when threatened, making their movements unpredictable for a short time.

Rave let out a frustrated sigh. "These rabbits are so fast. I can't even keep track of them," he muttered, shaking his head.

This was not strange in this world. The genes of beasts will give more strength to specefic attributes, just like these rabbits agility.

Despite the challenge, Rave wasn't entirely unprepared. He hailed from an Evolver family. His parents had reached the Second Genesys World after fully evolving their genes in the first world. Thanks to his upbringing, he had received excellent education on Geno Beasts and survival tactics.

After pondering for a while, an idea struck him. "Yes! If I do it this way, I might have a chance to take them down," he said with a devilish grin.

By the time he was ready to act, the sun had already set, and the Digger Rabbits had retreated into their burrows to sleep. But Rave wasn't deterred. Instead, he decided to turn their rest into his advantage, preparing to strike.

"Ha ha haa… Even if there are hundreds of them, I'll devour them all in one fell swoop! Hahaha!"

That night, the plains echoed with Rave's sinister laughter, sending chills through the beasts nearby.

After Scenes:

On a full moon night, a teenager sat in a grassy plain. Weird laughs and cries echoed intermittently from him. In his hands, he held long grass, weaving it into something, while muttering loudly into the night.

"Muuummmy… Daddyyy… I will find everything about you." He sniffled heavily, his eyes growing watery.

Then, suddenly, his expression shifted. His teary eyes became cynical. Before him appeared the Gen-Z system interface. Just seeing it made him blush.

"Hahaa… with this, even god can't stop me from reaching heaven!" he let out a cruel, loud laugh, losing himself in the moment. If anyone had seen him, they would have thought he was a psychopath. But that didn't matter. For an ordinary person, receiving such an ultimate cheat would surely make them temporarily lose their mind.
