The sun was rising slowly.
Rave was fully strained, but he had completed his task. A huge pile of grass lay before him, some of it crafted into nets. He had spent half the night searching specifically for long and strong grass to make this trap.
"Huu…" he breathed out. "This might be enough for now."
Even though these beasts were weak in attack or defense and couldn't harm him, Rave didn't underestimate them. The Digger Rabbits, with their skills Quick Dash and Nervous Shift, made catching them incredibly difficult. These tiny creatures were hard to corner, and their abilities to evade made the task even harder.
"Let's start the hunt now, he hee," he chuckled weirdly, grabbing a handful of grass from the pile and walking toward the rabbit burrows while spreading the grass along the way.
When he reached the burrows, the rabbits were already out, going about their daily routine. Without wasting time observing them, Rave approached the burrows, leaving tracks of grass behind.
As soon as he got close, all the rabbits sensed him and immediately vanished into their burrows. It happened so fast, like a blink of an eye, leaving no trace of their presence. But Rave wasn't targeting them yet. Instead, he spread the grass all over near a few specific burrows before heading back to his trap.
As he returned, he gave a smug smile. "This grass I plucked all night has very sweet roots. It'll definitely attract those puny creatures into my trap," he thought. Rave hurried to his trap to make some minor preparations.
In the meantime, the rabbits that had hidden themselves in the burrows slowly began to emerge. The sweet aroma of the grass was irresistible. Among the interconnected burrows, with hundreds of rabbits living in them, only the ones near the bait were drawn out.
The grass was spread near two or three specific burrows, and the rabbits there couldn't resist the aroma. They began eating the grass, moving further and further away from their burrows as they followed the trail of sweet-root grass.
Hiding behind a rock, Rave waited silently near his trap. The net was carefully concealed beneath a pile of grass he had prepared. As he saw six Digger Rabbits approaching, his eyes gleamed.
"They have no idea," he thought. "With these rabbits, I'll gain some Genesys points and test the abilities of this so-called system."
The rabbits soon reached the pile of grass. Their eyes shone with excitement at the sight of the tasty food, just as Rave's eyes sparkled at the sight of his prey. The rabbits hopped into the grass pile without hesitation.
Seizing the moment, Rave activated the trap. The net sprang up, covering the entire pile and trapping the rabbits inside.
The sudden change startled the rabbits, and they began thrashing violently. But the net held firm, preventing them from moving enough to use their skills effectively. Still, Rave knew the net wouldn't hold for long—it was made of grass, after all.
Without wasting a second, Rave sprinted toward the trap. "Yaaas! I got them!" he shouted.
Reaching the pile, he grabbed one of the rabbits by the head, yanking it hard from the net. For a brief moment, he felt a slight pang of guilt as he saw the helpless creature struggling. But the feeling vanished just as quickly as it came.
"Haha! Now where can you escape? You're dead meat!" he laughed, gripping the rabbit tightly as he hurried to end its life.
Suddenly, giving Rave a shock, the rabbit in his hands escaped. Its lean body and agile movements made it possible. Not only that one, but all the other five rabbits also slipped out through the holes in the net. Everything happened so rapidly that Rave had no time to react to the unexpected scenario.
"Oooh god. Now what? All of them escaped. What a pain in the a*s," he groaned, shaking his head in frustration. Rave had worked so hard preparing for this, only to fail at the crucial moment.
"I've got no time to waste. These are just weak creatures, and even against them, my plan failed!"
Without hesitation, Rave started sprinting after one of the rabbits, which was helping another rabbit escape from the net.
"Once you step into the tiger's den, there's no escape," he muttered, stretching out his hand to catch the fleeing rabbits.
But just as he was about to grab one, a sharp pain hit his abdomen. Another rabbit, using its superior speed, dashed at him with massive force. The impact sent Rave sprawling on the ground, saliva flying from his mouth.
"Aghhh, momm…" he tried to cry out in pain, but the tiny creatures gave him no time.
One after another, all six rabbits dashed at full speed, fully utilizing their skills and maneuvering mid-air to attack him in perfect coordination. It was like rapid-fire assault.
"You shi—" Dash!"I wil—" Dash!
Every time Rave tried to speak, an attack interrupted him. Their blinding speed left him powerless to counter.
Slowly, dizziness began to take over. His untrained body couldn't withstand the strain. As his consciousness wavered, he thought to himself, "Forget killing these beasts—if this keeps up, I'll lose here for sure."
Lost in thought, another rabbit collided head-on with his nose, sending a sharp jolt through his face.
Rave clutched his nose tightly in pain. When he glanced up, he noticed the rabbits had paused their assault, watching him with furious with their angry red eyes. Confused about why they had stopped, Rave checked his body.
He froze. His hands were red—bloody red. Drops of his own blood were dripping from his nose onto the ground.
Cold sweat broke out across his body as his heartbeat raced. Time seemed to slow, and memories struck him like lightning. Memories from that dark cave.
The image was crystal clear—the stone platform drenched in blood. Back then, it was as if he had been bathing in his own blood. The pain from that moment slithered through his body, sending a shock that yanked him out of the dark memories.
"F*ck. Did I really die like that? Was it not a nightmare? Then why does it feel so real? Why does it hurt so much?" he muttered, his voice trembling. The agony was unbearable.
It hit him hard, making him realize that this wasn't a nightmare. He had died once, and yet, somehow, he was still alive.
What disturbed him were the unbearable, vivid memories of his death. A shiver ran down his spine, the trauma choking him from within.
As Rave stood there, paralyzed by his memories, the rabbits seized the opportunity. They launched another assault, dashing at him with extreme speed, aiming to finish him off.
Shockingly, Rave dodged their attacks unexepectedly with a short margin. His body emitted faint fumes of vapor, and his skin turned red as he burned with rage. With a loud roar, he dashed toward the rabbits.
"F*ck you btches!" he yelled, grabbing the head of one incoming rabbit and crushing it into pieces.
His body bulged with veins, his muscles throbbing with power. His rage fueled him, pumping adrenaline through his system. The pain of his dark memories, coupled with the audacity of these puny rabbits to exploit his moment of weakness, sent him into a frenzy.
Even though they were fast they were not unpredictable. With less IQ they were only targetting vital points making him predict their next attack.
The rabbits were agile and their attacks amplified by their speed, Yet their defense was negligible. To Rave, their skulls were as fragile as crackers.
After killing the first rabbit, Rave immediately caught another mid-dash, tossing the first body aside. He crushed its head in the same manner, hot blood splattering across his face.
In mere seconds, Rave had killed two Gene Adaptation level beasts.
A familiar female mechanical voice echoed in his mind:
"Host has killed one Gene Adaptation level beast: Digger Rabbit."
"Host has killed one Gene Adaptation level beast: Digger Rabbit."
The voice was pouring honey in his eyes. Started, the true uses of sytem started working now, giving more energy to rave.
The remaining four stood still in fear. Their companion's brutal death froze them in their places. But not Rave. He moved swiftly towards one of the rabbits and grabbed its neck like a hen's. His eyes were still furious with rage. With a short, deadly intent in his eyes, Rave snapped its neck, killing it instantly.
"Host has killed one Gene Adaptation level beast: Digger Rabbit."
Another prompt came, but Rave ignored it this time as his eyes fixed on the next two targets. He sprinted towards them, but one of the rabbits showed some intelligence and used its skill to flee, leaving its companion behind.
Rave didn't waste time chasing the escaping rabbit, knowing he couldn't catch it now with his current speed. He could barely predict their movements to fight against them and about chasing after them was happening for now. So he turned towards the frozen rabbit.
The rabbit's body shivered, its once-angry eyes now filled with fear and despair. Its pitiful gaze remained locked on Rave's blood-red eyes.
Rave smirked darkly, tilting his head as if mocking the trembling creature. "Sorry, cutie pie," he said, his voice dripping with mockery. Without hesitation, he gripped its neck firmly.
"I'm no hero. If I don't kill you now, some other beast will definitely end me instead."
With a cruel smile, Rave shattered its head, earning another prompt.
"Host has killed one Gene Adaptation level beast: Digger Rabbit."
"Killing spree..." With a loud shout, Rave let out his anger and pain. His heart felt relief and excitement for his hard-earned success. But he had no energy left to celebrate and fell to the ground. His eyes slowly closed, and he fell asleep on the grassy plain, exhausted from his hard work and stress.
After Scenes:
The sun slowly set.
Where the grass was drenched in the blood of the rabbits, black smoke rose into the sky. "Huh, almost finished," Rave muttered, wiping the sweat from his face. He was the cause of that smoke. Rave had started a fire to cook the bodies of the rabbits.
After setting things up, he glanced at the chopped pieces of one rabbit, leaving the other four bodies behind to test his system's skills.
A droplet of drool slipped from his mouth as he stared at the meat. His mind raced with the power he was about to gain from consuming it.
Wasting no more time, he placed the chopped pieces to cook and made his way toward the remaining rabbit bodies.
