Chapter 36 - The passcode

"Hello. My name is Zoey Brown, and I'm sorry, but I'm unable to take your call at this time. If you leave a message, I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thank you."

By now, Aria had already called Zoey seventeen times in two hours. She needed to lock up because she was the only person still present in the building. Daily, David, Olivia, and Zoey were the people who were responsible for locking the door. This was because they were the individuals who left the building at the end of the day. She was responsible for ensuring their proper lockup while they were away from the country.

David's infrequent visits to the main office kept Olivia and Zoey apprised of the situation and provided them with regular updates. However, she was unable to set the alarm because the passcode, which changed every week, was unfamiliar to her. Olivia and Zoey were the only people aware of this information. Zoey was the only person in the entire building whom Olivia Miller trusted. Therefore, he decided to hand up the password to her. Zoey was the only trusted person in the building.

Despite the company's strict security measures and physical camera placement at every corner of the building, she could not trust that Miller Corporation's staff would not turn against her and steal from her. Consequently, she engaged many of the most expert information technology pros, and they consistently discovered a method to modify the alarm and its passwords without the assistance of the security organization.

In other words, Aria continues to hope for a miraculous outcome. She was unable to reach Olivia because it was clear that she would not answer the phone when it rang. Moreover, she couldn't reach David as she lacked the confidence to converse with him over the phone without risking a potentially embarrassing situation. Thus, she was unable to call him. Despite her best efforts, she was unable to reach her only confidant. During each minute that passed, David emerged as her only option, and before she even realized it, she was already on the phone with him.

"Zoey, thank God you finally answered; I was starting to get worried about you," he said, his phone ringing twice before he finally answered. "I was getting really worried." He spoke the words in a single breath, and Aria furrowed her brow in confusion. So, he knows her name? It's intriguing, to say the least. "What's going on? Is that you, Zoey?" David asked in a concerned manner, and Aria vigorously shook her head to clear her memory. Aria delivered David's question with precision.

"It's me, Aria, and I'm sorry, David." Luck is on your side. She was the one who did it.

"Oh, Aria, how are you doing? Unfortunately, I was under the impression that you were Zoey." David exhaled deeply into the phone handset and let out a long sigh.

"No, it is not. My apologies, but is everything all right? Although I have been attempting to contact Zoey, she has not picked up the phone. I even left her several voicemails and messages while I was on the phone with her."

I have no understanding of the situation; however, I have an unpleasant sensation. Even though it had been around four hours since she left with her brother and our plane was supposed to take off thirty minutes ago, Zoey had not yet returned, and her phone was switched off.

Her brother accompanied her to the meeting. Aria inquired in disbelief about the matter.

In response to your question, Xander Gomez was also present for the meeting you mentioned.

"Do you have any contact with him at this time? She may still be with him."

"I was on the verge of going there; do you need anything now?

"Oh, yes," she responded. My goal was to inquire about the alarm code, as I had to lock up and was about to leave.

"Oh, what a surprise! I'll immediately phone the information technology department to ask about it and get back to you in a moment. If you could give me a moment, I'd appreciate that. While Aria was running her hand through her blonde hair, she sighed for the first time.

"The code is "21235643JKZ." The moment Aria heard a voice, she immediately knew it was not a male voice and was n't coming from the phone. As she looked up from her desk, her gaze fell on the troubled figure of a woman, who she immediately recognized as Zoey Brown.

"Zoey, what are you doing here at this time of the night? David is searching for you across Ireland; did something terrible happen? Is it possible that your brother has brought you here? Hope your brother wasn't a jerk to you." When Aria approached Zoey and walked around her desk, she asked the question. She anticipated that Zoey would experience ecstasy and leap with joy upon seeing her brother. She was thrilled to see her brother. What she did not anticipate, however, was for Zoey to become upset and cry during the entire situation. What a miraculous occurrence! I'm curious, Zoey, what exactly took place? Aria questioned Zoey, whose body was trembling violently, and she was wailing in anguish. Zoey felt her body shaking uncontrollably.

It was while she was lying on the ground that her knees gave out, and she fell to the ground immediately after. The good news is that Aria could grab her in time and kneel next to her, which allowed her to capture her in her arms successfully. Because Zoey was crying so hard, Aria had a tough time hearing her phone ringing. It was almost impossible for her to hear it. Despite the obvious fact that David was calling her back, she struggled to articulate the new circumstances to him. She was unable to describe the situation to him.

Following Noah's departure from Olivia at the restaurant, Olivia returned to the office and worked on the documents that Noah had requested. She highlighted certain parts and modified the documents to be more apparent. Her task was almost finished, and there were only thirty minutes left. Who could have ever imagined that she would carry out one of his directives and make a genuine effort to work for him? She sighed and shook her head in agreement.
