The Backrooms is an urban legend that originated from an internet post in 2019.
It is an alternate dimension that people can accidentally "noclip" into— a term borrowed from video games, which means to phase through reality.
Those who are unfortunate enough to find themselves in the Backrooms are trapped in an endless, empty maze of yellowed, stained wallpaper with buzzing fluorescent lights, and damp, moldy carpets.
This space is infinite, made up of monotonous hallways and rooms, all with no exit.
The air in the maze has a musty staleness, and the lights flicker, turning on and off, and humming non stop.
The whole things literally creats a of total isolation, emptiness and loneliness.
But the worst part?
YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
Many versions of the legend say that the entity is a shadowy figure, others say it's a horrifying humanoid that moves faster than a normal human should be able to.
The deeper one moves in the maze, the more unstable and real the environment becomes and feels.
And the more these happen the more time begins to distort and the more paranoia starts to deep in and increase.
… Not to mention the constant dreadful feeling.
The Backrooms taps into the primal fears of being lost, trapped, and hunted.
