Chapter 1 - Author’s Note

Hope's choice is my first book…that I will publish. I have written an entire series based on the citizens of Medford. Ten books in fact. But none of those were fit in my opinion to share with you. I used those previous books to build my lore and history for the world you are about to enter. For this series, and the upcoming Grey series, I will use Medford's vast wealth of wonder and beauty as the base.

This specific book is my attempt to introduce you to that rich and thriving world. A place where simple everyday people struggle with great power. Medford's citizens are not super, they are just like you and me. They aren't perfect, and they don't know everything. They have needs and dreams like us, and they never go untouched by life's fire. The power they have, is frankly secondary to how they use this power. Our main focus for this series are the people in Medford known as the "Aqua." However, Medford is a diverse and thriving place, with far more to talk about than the Aqua. Thus, if I seem a bit heavy handed in sharing Medford's history, I apologize. But there is a lot you have missed, and Hope is here to help get you caught up. At least as far as this little corner of Medford is concerned.

Hope is the focus of this book. She is a sensitive young woman, on the edge of the most important decision of her life. One that has the potential to change EVERYTHING she understands about the world around her. She is young, confident, and not afraid to confront that world she is entering. But she isn't as ready as she thinks she is. Hope needs a lot more than just her strength, if she is going to get by in Medford. She is going to need her friends, a lot of love and understanding, and above all…wisdom. Specifically, a wisdom that is aged and tested…. One worthy of a woman like her.

I think you will find the people of Medford to be as captivating and interesting as I do. These stories have been a treasure for my family. I believe they will be for you too. At least that is my hope for you, if you will forgive the pun.
