Chapter 9: Numbers?! Return of the xyz Remnants P1

It's been both a peaceful and hectic few days since my battle with Declan Akaba. I haven't seen the man since. Apparently, some of his teachers has been disappearing or something. After the battle, I left You Show to get some air and think over the battle I just had. Apparently, Yuya started throwing some tantrums about the Declan being able to pendulum summon but Shuzo was there to sort him straight. The only other time I've seen Yuya was the day after.

Flashback

"You want me to what?" I asked as I stared at the bowing pink haired girl in front of me. Yuya was also there looking at Yuzu, dumbfounded.

"I want you to train me." Said Yuzu, still bowing.

"uuuh, sorry Yuzu but I'm not really the best at teaching. It's not exactly my thing, you know." I responded nervously with my hands in front of my chest.

"Come on, please Kai." Continued Yuzu as she was not willing to give up that easily. "In that duel against Leo, I was practically useless. I don't want to ever feel that way again. Just teach me how to Fusion summon, that's all I'm asking for."

"Like I said Yuzu, I'm not a teacher." I said again as I got on my motorcycle. "Ask Sora, he can teach you fusion summoning."

Flashback end

It's not like I didn't want to teach Yuzu. However, when I think about the people who taught me everything I know, I knew I could never be like them to Yuzu. I started thinking about a man in a red jacket and a man a blue jacket. I sighed as I thought about how much I missed them. I took out the card that reminded me of one of them from my deck. It was the dark magician.

"I swear it, I'm going to make you proud." I said out loud looking towards the sky.

"Make who proud?" Said a voice next to me as I fell on my back in surprise.

"Yuzu! Don't just sneak up on people like that!" I shouted

"I wasn't, you were just too busy thinking to yourself, you didn't even hear me call your name." I grumbled at her as she was right. I didn't.

"Very well what do you want." I said as she puffed up her cheeks.

"Jeez, can I girl just not want to talk to her friend." She complained

"A girl can, just not you." I said before a paper fan wacked my head.

"That's not funny!" She shouted. "I just came here for my first lesson in fusion summoning.

"… what you talking about?" I asked in confusion.

"Your teaching me remember." She said innocently

"I never said that!" I shouted, "I told you to ask Sora."

"Sora has disappeared since that battle with the Leo Institute like you did." She said as she glared at me while I just averted eye contact. "Please Kai. Your my only hope. The Maimi championships is coming in a month, and I got to be ready for it."

Oh yeah that's right. Apparently, the Miami championship Declan invited me to be in, is this big tournament hosted by Declan himself for people to graduate from junior to pro. Apparently, I'm currently in the junior league. Qualifications to get in the tournament is a 60%-win rate or 6 matches won in a row. Even though Declan invited me himself, since the Leo v You Show fight a week ago happened, I've been challenging duellists to battle me. I also updated my deck and added another special dragon I found. Currently, I've got a 40%-win rate. That duel against Declan seemed to boost it up for some unknown reason, but I was determined to get it to 60 before the championships happens.

"I don't know what to say Yuzu. I just can't train you." I said

"What I don't understand is why. Why won't at least give me some pointers on how to improve my deck or something." Yuzu said frustrated.

"Cuz I'm not a teacher alright!" I shouted before slumping down on the bench behind me. "I'm never going to be like them." I looked at my dark magician. Yuzu looked at me sadly as she sat next to me on the bench.

"Want to talk about it?" She asked.

"This card. The dark magician along with this copy of the Red-Eyes black dragon, used to be my teacher's card." I said as I smiled. "He was known as the best duellist in the world. In fact, from where I'm from he is called the King of Games. He taught me everything I know. He taught me how anything is possible if you just believe in the heart of the cards."

"The heart of the cards?" Asked Yuzu.

"Mhm" I nodded. "You see the Heart of the Cards is about having faith in your deck and believing that the right card will appear when you truly need it. It symbolizes the connection between a duellist's willpower, belief, and strategy. My teacher believed that duelling is not just about luck—it's about trust, determination, and the belief that a deck reflects its duellist. That's why a duel is never truly over until the last card is drawn." Yuzu looked at me like I just preached the gospel.

"Wow! That's amazing. Your teacher must be a heck of a duellist."

"Oh, believe me he was. The very best. The way he always controlled his magicians was like magic. No one could beat him. At least that was true until-" I paused remembering the bad memory, that had felt like a dream.

"Until what?" Asked Yuzu.

"Lets just say a bad man came along and beat him in a duel and in doing so, trapped his soul away forever."

"Trapped his soul?" asked the confused Yuzu.

"I guess you can just say he took him away and locked him up." I said, nervously scratching my head.

"So, what you were saying, is that you can't teach me because you can never be like your old teacher?" Yuzu asked as I nodded.

"Ever since then, my goal has been to find the man and take him down. If I can't even do right by my teacher, what right do I have to become one." I said seriously.

Yuzu watched as Kai sat slumped on the bench, the weight of his emotions pressing heavily on him. She could see the turmoil in my eyes as i held the Dark Magician card, my grip firm as if it were an anchor to my past.

"Kai," she began softly, her voice cutting through the quiet. "I know you feel like you have some debt to pay to your teacher. But do you think he taught you all he did just for you to stop living your own life?"

I didn't respond immediately, my eyes still focused on the card. "He taught me everything I know. Everything," I said finally, my voice low. "But I couldn't protect him when it mattered. How can I ever live up to what he was?"

Yuzu placed a hand on my shoulder, her expression both gentle and firm. "Kai, what you're carrying isn't a debt—it's a legacy. Your teacher's teachings live on in you, not as a burden, but as a gift. If he believed in you enough to pass on his knowledge, don't you think that means you're capable of greatness?"

I finally looked up at her, a flicker of doubt mixed with curiosity in my gaze. "What do you mean?"

"I mean," Yuzu continued, her voice gaining strength, "he'd want you to share what he taught you. You can honor him by passing on his lessons. Maybe you're not a teacher in the traditional sense, but you have something valuable to offer. And you don't have to be exactly like him to help someone. You just have to be you."

A memory suddenly flashed in my head. It was when I was barely a teenager, when he first stepped into the small, dimly lit duelling arena. My teacher stood at the other end, his iconic blue jacket catching the faint light that streamed through the overhead windows. In his hand was the Dark Magician, and behind him on his duel disk, a series of powerful cards that Kai could only dream of wielding.

"Dueling isn't just about power," my teacher said, his voice calm yet commanding. "It's about heart, trust, and the bond you share with your cards. Always remember, Kai, the Heart of the Cards will guide you if you believe."

I remember watching in awe as my teacher orchestrated a flawless duel, drawing exactly the right card to turn the tide. "How do you do that?" I had asked, wide-eyed.

The man smiled and placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "It's not magic. It's trust. Your deck reflects you, Kai. If you trust in yourself and your cards, they'll never let you down."

Flashback end

"I just… I don't know if I can," I admitted.

"You don't have to be perfect, Kai," Yuzu said with a small smile. "You just have to try. That's what duelling's about, isn't it? Trusting in your deck and believing in yourself. If your teacher were here, I bet he'd say the same thing." Yuzu put a hand on my shoulder. "I know losing someone can leave a deep ache, and it's not something that fades easily. But his spirit lives on within you. It's up to you to carry his legacy and keep moving forward. One day, you'll achieve the goal you're fighting for—not because of anger or vengeance, but because you have the strength to stand for what's right."

My lips quirked into a faint smile at that, a bit of warmth returning to my expression. "You've got a way of making things sound simple," I said.

"That's because they are," Yuzu teased, standing up and offering her hand. "Now, how about we give this whole 'teaching me Fusion Summoning' thing a try? No pressure. Just start with what you know."

I stared at her hand for a moment, my mind once again drifting to a memory of my teacher. I remembered standing across from the man, the White-and-blue patterned duel disk on my teacher's arm humming with energy. "Kai," my teacher had said with a calm but firm voice, "A duellist isn't defined by their wins or losses. It's about how they inspire others and trust in their deck. When you teach someone, you pass on a part of yourself." The memory lingered, warm and bittersweet, before fading back to the present. With a soft chuckle, I took Yuzu's hand. "Alright, Yuzu. Let's see if I can pass on even a little of what my teacher gave me."

"That's the spirit!" Yuzu said with a grin. "And don't worry, I'll make sure to remind you of this moment when I win the Miami Championships!"

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," I replied with a smirk. For the first time in a long while, i felt a spark of hope—a reminder that even in teaching someone else, i could keep my teacher's legacy alive. It was a feeling I had not felt until he arrived.

In a dark and abandoned building

Three figures could be seen. One in front, facing away from the other two.

"Your saying you saw Lulu?!" Asked the shock tall man next to the cloaked man. The cloaked man was the same guy Kai and Yuzu has seen before the whole mess with the Leo Institute started. It was Yuya's Counterpart.

"I said I saw someone that looks like her. I'm still not entirely sure if it is her. She has different hair, and her friend seemed to call her Yuzu. Not to mention, she didn't seem to recognize me when we met. However," Yuya's counterpart clenched his fists as even the cloaked man in front of them turned his head to hear what he was talking about.

"What is it!" Said the impatient tall man.

"I believe the friend is from the Fusion dimension." The two men stared at me for a good second before anger erupted on their faces.

"From the Fusion Dimension you say!" Shouted the tall man, barely keeping himself together as the memories of cards with people's faces on it flooded his memory, fuelling his rage. "Your telling me there is a fusion scum here to do the same thing they did to us, and we are only just now finding out about this!"

"I didn't know he was from there then. But I've been following him for a while and he always fusion summons powerful dragons in all his duel, each one producing powerful fusion energy. He isn't from the Leo Institute either so only someone from Duel academy could do such a feat." Explained the man.

"That's no excuse! I should have been notified the minute you suspected it. Now all I want to do, is beat that guy to a pulp till he tells me where Lulu is!"

"Shay, we can't be rash about this. We are no longer in the xyz dimension, we can't just go accusing people. I'm not even entirely sure yet.

"Why are you defending him! Don't you remember what they did to use? How they hunted our people like a child's game? Don't you want revenge?" The man paused for a second as he clenched his fists, struggling to lose himself. Like the tall man, memories were also flooding in.

"I know, but if you just listen to me, we can solve this without any drama-"

"This isn't the time for peace-making, Yuto, this is the time to fight."

"That's enough!" Shouted the third man. He had been standing their patiently waiting for his companions to stop bickering, but his patience had run dry. He just stood their staring menacingly at the two. He looked at Yuto.

"Do you know the name of this guy?" He asked

"From what I gathered, his name is Kai." He answered.

"Very well, search for the guy but do not engage him until you have told me, and I've arrived. I want to meet this guy and make sure nothing bad happens myself." Yuto nodded as the man turned his attention to Shay.

"Shay, your obviously not in the best of moods so I don't want you to engage the man, you understand?"

"Yes, leader." Shay responded, with a pissed of look. Turning around to leave he looked at Yuto. "Just promise me one thing. If this guy does turn out to be from duel academy, make sure to not hold back and give him hell for me." They both looked into each other's eyes as a feeling of understanding and respect was present in them.

With Kai and Yuzu

In an open clearing near You Show Duel School, i placed a stack of cards onto the ground and gestured for Yuzu to sit across from me.

"Alright, let's start with the basics," i said, holding up a Polymerization card. "Fusion summoning relies on this card. It's like the glue that combines your monsters to create something stronger."

Yuzu studied the card with curiosity. "So with Polymerization, I can fuse monsters from my hand or field to summon one from my Extra Deck?"

"Exactly," i confirmed. "But it's not always that simple. Fusion summoning requires careful planning. Some cards, like Red-Eyes Fusion, allow you to use materials directly from your deck. But for now, let's stick with the basics."

"What if I want to fuse monsters from my deck now?" Yuzu pouted, crossing her arms.

I sighed, shaking my head with a small smile. "Patience, Yuzu. You need to understand the fundamentals first. Fusion summoning isn't just about combining monsters—it's about strategy and knowing your cards. A poorly timed fusion can cost you the duel."

Yuzu nodded slowly. "Okay, I think I get it. Let's try it out."

I handed her a set of practice cards, including Polymerization and a few basic Fusion monsters. "Alright, build a scenario. Show me how you'd Fusion Summon."

Yuzu hesitated for a moment, then began placing her cards down. As she worked through the steps, I watched with a growing sense of pride. She stumbled a few times, but each mistake was met with determination to get it right.

"Good," I said after her third attempt. "You're starting to understand. Now let's add a little pressure. Imagine this is the final move in a championship duel. What do you do?"

Yuzu's eyes sparkled with focus as she repeated the process, this time with more confidence. When her Fusion monster appeared on the field, she grinned triumphantly. "How was that?"

i smirked. "Not bad. Not bad at all."

Unknown to us, a pair of eyes were watching us… actually two.

From the corner of her eyes, Yuzu noticed a man in an orange jumpsuit watching them with tears in his eyes and a cloth being pulled from his mouth. I sweat dropped when I noticed this too.

"Urgh, can we go somewhere else. I'm afraid I not going to be able to think straight with dad watching us like that." Said the fed-up girl. I could tell just from a glance that she was just barely resisting the urge to bring out her paper fan and going up to him to wack some sense into him. I didn't blame her after all I did always think of Shuzo as a weird man. Actually, weird didn't even begin to describe him.

"What's up with him?" I asked as I didn't even think it was a problem Yuzu was out here.

"He is just said I asked you to train me in fusion summoning and not him." Yuzu said with annoyance present in her face.

"I hope I'm not going to get in trouble or something." I asked worried. After all, Yuya's mom had paid good money to get into You Show. Even though, she wasn't my mom she was strangely the closest thing I had to one, and I kind of didn't want to let her down.

"Oh no don't worry. I promise he is like this all the time. Lets just go somewhere for some peace and quiet." Said Yuzu as she waved her hands in the air.

"Alright, maybe we can get some actual practice in."

As we walked away, I noticed something in the corner of my eyes. However, as soon as I saw it, it disappeared.

10 Mins Later

As we arrived at the place, memories of our meeting with that Yuya lookalike during his duel with Sylvio flooded my mind. It wasn't just me, though—I could see it in Yuzu's face too. Her usual bright demeanour had shifted into something more sombre, her eyes reflecting a mixture of confusion and doubt. I watched her for a moment, the silence between us growing heavier.

"Yuzu," I said, breaking the stillness. She turned her head toward me, her expression curious but still tinged with sadness. "I'm asking this as your friend, and I want you to be honest with me. Do you… like Yuya?"

"Huh? What?! Well, no, I mean…" she stuttered, her face turning bright red as the question caught her off guard. She fumbled for words, clearly flustered, and I could see the internal struggle playing out in her head. She wanted to deny it outright, but something was holding her back. Yuzu sighed deeply, the tension in her shoulders softening.

"I don't know," she finally admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

I nodded, respecting her honesty. "Fair enough," I said, deciding not to press her further. Instead, I stretched out my hand. "Hand me your deck."

Yuzu blinked, confused. "My deck?"

"Mhm," I confirmed. "I want to see what's in it so I can figure out what we need to change and add."

Understanding dawned on her face, and she nodded, pulling her deck from its case and handing it to me. I took the cards carefully, feeling the weight of them—not just physically, but what they meant to her as a duellist.

I began flipping through the cards one by one, examining her choices. The core of her deck was centred around the Melodious archetype, which made sense given her style. Cards like Aria the Melodious Diva and Elegy the Melodious Diva were solid for protecting her field.

"Your deck has a good foundation," I said, more to myself than to her. "But…" I paused, holding up a few cards that felt out of place.

"But what?" Yuzu asked, leaning closer, her curiosity piqued.

"You've got a few cards here that don't really help your strategy. Like this one," I said, showing her a random Spell Card that didn't synergize with her Melodious monsters. "It's not bad, but it doesn't fit. Decks work best when every card has a purpose."

Yuzu nodded; her brow furrowed in thought. "So, what do you suggest?"

I set the cards I'd pulled aside and began sorting through the deck again. "You need more cards that speed up your Fusion summons. First Movement Solo is a must-have; it'll let you summon a Level 4 or lower Melodious monster straight from your hand when your field is empty. And Polymerization is fine, but you'd benefit from cards like Melodious Illusion or even Fusion Substitute for extra flexibility."

"What about monsters?" she asked, her tone eager.

"Your monster lineup is strong, but you might want to add more support monsters. Sonata the Melodious Diva is great for boosting your field's attack power, and adding Kristya could give you control over Special Summons, which could shut down certain opponents."

I handed the deck back to her, keeping the separated cards in a neat stack. "This is a good start. You've got potential, Yuzu, but with some tweaks, your deck could be a lot stronger. Also don't worry. Your deck is a fairy type and i know a powerful card that could help surprise and win you the game instantly. I'll show you once u have mastered fusion summoning."

She took the deck and looked at it thoughtfully, her determination shining through. "Thanks, Kai. I'll work on it."

"Good. Now let's get back to practice. I want to see you Fusion Summon like a pro by the end of the day," I said with a smirk.

"You're on!" Yuzu replied, her usual fiery spirit returning as we prepared to dive back into training. However.

Suddenly, a bright light illuminated the room, revealing two figures standing at the door. One of them wore a dark, form-fitting outfit: a sleek black jacket with purple accents along the edges and silver buckles on the front. His pants matched, black with faint purple streaks, tucked into sturdy boots, and a violet scarf draped around his neck, adding an air of mystery. The other man, however, was less revealing. His face and clothing were hidden beneath a long cloak, but from the bottom, the edge of white trousers peeked through.

Yuzu's eyes widened in recognition. One of the figures was the man she thought was Yuya. He noticed her too, his gaze lingering on her sombrely. Sensing tension, I quickly stepped in front of Yuzu, my stance protective, and glared at the two strangers.

"Who are you, and what do you want?" I demanded, my voice firm and ready for anything.

The Yuya lookalike's expression twisted into anger the moment his eyes met mine, but it was the cloaked figure who spoke first. "We mean you no harm," he said calmly. I snorted in disbelief, but he ignored me and continued. "We're here to ask you something. Are you from Duel Academy?"

My eyes widened at the question. Apparently, this reaction was all the proof the Yuya lookalike needed, as his rage boiled over.

"I knew it!" he shouted. "I've been watching you for days. The fusion energy you emit when you duel—there's no mistaking it. You're from the Fusion Dimension. So, what are you here for? To do the same thing you did to our dimension. Huh? Are you here to hunt us and card people for fun? Answer me, you fusion scum!"

"Xyz remnants," I murmured under my breath. Yuzu glanced at me in confusion.

"That's right, we are," the cloaked figure confirmed. "If you're truly from the Fusion Dimension, then you won't mind duelling us here and now."

I smirked, stepping forward. "You're right. I don't mind at all."

The Yuya lookalike stepped closer, his voice sharp with anger. "My name is Yuto. I'm from the dimension your kind hunted like animals and carded for sport. This time, it's going to be different. You'll be the one getting carded."

With that, Yuto activated his duel disk, its strange design glowing ominously. I silently activated mine, locking eyes with him as the tension in the room reached its peak.

"Duel!"

As the duel started no one noticed the black-haired women watching silently from outside. Putting the duel disk to her duel she whispered.

"Mr President sir, it seems Kai Akimoto is being challenged by two suspicious people."

In the dark room.

"Sir, should we send people there for back-up?"

"Don't be ridiculous, just put up the feed to where they at. These guys could be the ones responsible for the disappearance for our missing professors." Ordered Declan

"Yes Sir." Said the worker as a video of Kai and Yuto saying "Duel" was shown.

"I wonder, what could they want with Kai."

Back to the duel

"I'll be the one started." Yuto said coldly.

"Fine by me."

"I set four cards face down then end my turn."

"It's the same move he did against Sylvio." Said Yuzu in shock.

"Heh, does your deck do anything else or is that it?" I asked in slight amusement.

"Shut it! This move is more than enough to beat scum like you." Yuto spat.

"Jeez, what's with hostility. I don't even know you man." I said with a smirk, adding fuel to the fire. My plan seemed to work as I could visibly see Yuto boiling in anger. Yuzu just stared in confusion as her vision of the calm, cool mysterious bad boy type she saw in Yuto was visibly shattering.

"You may not know me but I'm sure you know the friends you hunted down. This battle is for them so stop clowning around and make your turn!" Yuto shouted.

"Yuto! Relax, he is trying to get into your head." Said the cloaked man.

"Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't know your friends." I said with a blank face. "However, if it's a duel you want, I'll be happy to give it to you. I draw!"

"I activate the trap card Phantom Knights of Dark Gauntlets. With this I can send a spell or trap card from my deck to the graveyard."

"I attack you directly." I said, deciding to play into his little game.

"Big mistake, I activate the second effect of the trap card I just activated!" Yuto shouted as his trap activated. "With this, whenever you make a direct attack, I can special summon it in defence mode as a phantom knight monster.

My monster blasted a blast of flames as it incinerated the little knight.

"I'm guessing you have two more traps that lets you special summon it."

"Exactly!" Shouted Yuto raising his hands to activate two more traps. "I activate 2 Phantom Knights of the Shade Brigandine. They let me special summon them as phantom knights."

"This is the start of where you repent for your crimes! I overlay my two level 4 phantom knights in order to build the overlay network." Yuto shouted.

"This is just like what happened before!" she said as she worriedly looked at me. I just focused on shielding us both as the wind being generated from Yuto's summoning was threatening us both.

Yuto's monster turned into bright lights, entering into the dark ominous circle as he started his chant. "Cloaked in Shadows and Relentless in its objections! I summon the most dangerous monster of them all! I xyz summon! Dark Rebellion xyz Dragon!"

Dark Rebellion xyz Dragon Rank 4 (ATK 2500/DEF 2000)

A deafening roar filled the battlefield as a monstrous figure emerged, its body cloaked in jagged, obsidian-like armor that seemed to absorb the surrounding light. Its piercing purple eyes glowed with malevolent intensity, exuding an aura of unrelenting power. Two massive wings, sharp and angular like blades, spread wide, creating gusts of wind that sent shockwaves through the field. Electric arcs danced along the dragon's sleek, armored body as it hovered above the ground, radiating dominance.

Twin orbs of dark energy orbited around its chest, pulsating like beating hearts. The dragon's claws, razor-sharp and glowing faintly with violet energy, flexed as if itching to tear through anything in its path. A single beat of its wings caused the vortex to dissipate, leaving only silence and the dragon's overpowering presence.

It was just like before. The energy being generated from the monster was incredible. The monster roared like it was the embodiment of Yuto's anger as his eyes strangely turned red.

"I'm going to destroy you!" Yuto shouted in rage.

"Where is all this rage coming from, I said to myself." Looking over at the cloaked man I could tell the man was conflicted, as if deciding whether to stop this or not. Suddenly I felt a bright light from my deck. It seemed to be coming from my graveyard. Red-Eyes Black Dragon seemed to be calling out to me. It was the same as last time and when I first saw Odd-Eyes Pendulum dragon. What did it mean. Like a reflex I snapped my head towards the cloaked figure. He was also holding out a card that seemed to be shining like mine. I didn't have time to dwell on this however, as Yuto started his rampage.

"By using one overlay unit, I can activate Dark Rebellions effect. I can half your monsters attack points and add them unto mine. Go! Treason Discharge!" Yuto said, his voice rusty and full of malice. Lightning erupted from the monster's wings as it lunged forward at mine wrapping itself around it.

"Now I shall finally get my revenge! Dark rebellion attack him directly." Yuto shouted.

"Kai!" Yuzu screamed from behind me as the monsters charged for mine. Landing its mark it destroyed my dragon on impact.

Kai LP: 4000

"What!" Excaimed Yuto. "Why haven't you lost any Life Points."

"It's because I activate the trap Défense Draw." I said smirking. "With this, the battle damage I take becomes 0 and I get to draw 1 card."

"Tch, very well. I shall set two cards and end my turn. I'll destroy you on my next turn." Said the still Red-eyes Yuto.

"Wow this is getting intense." Whispered Julia. "Also, is it just me or does this duel feel a little too real."

"Kai." Yuzu said worriedly

Looking back at her, I smiled. "Don't you worry Yuzu. I ain't so weak that I'd lose to a chump like this guy."

Yuzu instantly seemed to brighten up upon hearing this as she nodding. "Good luck." None of them noticed Yuto, seething in more anger upon witnessing this.

"Alright time to cook. I draw!"

'Alright. For some reason, I don't think it would be wise to let Red-Eyes Black Dragon fight like I originally planned' I thought, looking over at the barely controlled Yuto. 'Alright, time for plan b then'

"I activate the spell card: Cards of Red Stone. By discarding a level 7 red eyes monster to my hand, In this case Red-Eyes Soul. I get to draw two more cards and send another red eye from my deck to the graveyard. I draw two cards then send Red-Eyes Black Flare dragon. Then ill use the spell card Monster Reborn to revive my Red-Eyes Black Dragon!" Strengthening my resolve, I raised my hand, gripping the card that symbolized both power and perseverance. "Come forth, the dark flame that burns with unyielding fury!" I shouted, slamming the card onto my duel disk. "Red Eyes Black Dragon"

Red-Eyes black dragon LV7 (ATK 2400/DEF 2000)

A swirling vortex of shadow and fire erupted onto the field, twisting and roaring as it expanded. The temperature spiked, the air growing heavy with heat and the faint scent of smoke. Out of the vortex emerged a massive, serpentine form, its jet-black scales gleaming ominously under the light.

Upon seeing his opponents Red-Eyes Black Dragon let out an ear-splitting roar that reverberated across the battlefield, its crimson eyes glowing with an intense, almost predatory light. The fiery aura surrounding it pulsed like a living entity, radiating both menace and awe. Its sharp, blade-like wings unfurled with a force that sent shockwaves rippling through the air, and its jagged claws scraped against the ground, leaving glowing scorch marks in their wake. Dark Rebellion was no kitten either as it seemed like he was holding himself from instantly lunging itself at my dragon for a battle. As the two dragons stared each other down, I quickly remembered my plan. "Sorry Red-Eyes but your only hear for sightseeing. I tribute Red Eyes Black dragon to call forth and even darker dragon. Arise Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon."

From the heart of the fiery maelstrom, Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon appeared, its obsidian-black scales gleaming like polished onyx, each one edged with a faint crimson glow. Its piercing red eyes burned with malevolent intensity, radiating an aura of raw, unrelenting power. The dragon's jagged wings unfurled, sending a wave of scorching heat through the battlefield, their edges dripping with molten energy. As it let out an ear-splitting roar, the flames that birthed it scattered into embers, revealing the full, terrifying form of the dragon.

"This Red-Eyes has a cool little effect. It gains 300 attack points for each dragon in the graveyard. Since I have 4 it now gains 1200attack points."

Red-Eyes Darkness dragon LV9 (ATK 3600/DEF 2000)

"What!" Shouted Julia just above a whisper. Thankfully no one seemed to notice, to engrossed by the ancient looking dragon in front of them.

"How many dragons do you have?" Asked Yuzu, eyes still fixed on the darkness dragon.

"A lot more, that are ready to come out and bite on my opponent."

Yuto just stood there quietly, like a lion waiting for its prey to come.

"You seem confident, why don't we see what your made of. I attack your with Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon. Go Dark Flare Blast!"

"I activate the quickplay spell The Phantom-Knights Rank-Up-Magic Launch! This card allows me to special summon a monster that is one rank higher then the one on my field using it as a material. I xyz summon Ark Rebellion xyz Dragon.

Ark Rebellion xyz Dragon Rank 5 (ATK 3000/DEF 2500)

"Then I activate the trap Phantom Knights of Wrong Magnetring," Yuto shouted like he was fighting for his life. "This card allows me to negate your attack and in doing so summon another phantom knight in defence mode to the field. Furthermore, I get to draw two cards." (Author: I change the last effect of the card since it's my story, and I didn't want it. Enjoy!)

Phantom Knights of Wrong Magnetring LV2 (ATK 0/DEF 0)

I smiled. "Seems like we both don't want to go down huh."

"Don't get it twisted. I am nothing like you, fusion scum." Shouted Yuto.

"Your right, I wouldn't attack an innocent beautiful boy in blind rage." I said shaking my head, while Yuzu, who wasn't understanding a single thing that was going on, just sweat dropped. "With that said. I'll set one card and end. On to you."

"Fine then I draw."

"I normal summon Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak!" A ghost a with a red scarf appeared like a reaper. I noticed Yuto no longer had that red glow of rage in his eyes.

Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak LV3 (ATK 800/DEF 1000)

Yuto looked at his next card. As he remembered the friend who gave this to him. He remembered his power. 'Kite! Give me strength'

"I activate the spell card Galaxy Queens Light it allows a monster to become the same level as a monster I target. So now my Phantom knight of Ancient Cloak becomes a level two like my Phantom Knights of Wrong Magnetring" (Another card I changed because I felt like it Lol) "Now I'll overlay these two to build the overlay network. I xyz summon The Phantom Knights of Cursed Javelin!"

The Phantom Knights of Cursed Javelin Rank 2 (ATK 1600/ DEF 0)

Everyone looked at the strange looking knight on his horse, "This is interesting."

"It better be, because this is the monster that will end this. I activate its special ability. By detaching one overlay network I can reduce your monsters attack to 0 plus it gets its effects taken away."

Red-Eyes Darkness dragon LV9 (ATK 0/DEF 2000)

"That ain't good." I said.

"Its about to get worse, worse for you that is. I activate Ark rebellions effects. By detaching an overlay unit, it gains the attack points of all my monsters on the field. However, my other monsters can't attack this turn but that doesn't matter because this is more than enough to end you.

Ark Rebellion xyz Dragon Rank 5 (ATK 4600/DEF 2500)

"Now it's finally over for you. I attack you with Ark Rebellion dragon!"

I didn't back down, though, holding my ground as he glared at me, trying to finish me off with that Ark Rebellion Dragon of his. But I had prepared for this. "Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but my Scrap Iron Scarecrow has something to say. Its saying that its going to tank the attack like a G and go back to its quite resting place on my field." I activated Scrap Iron Scarecrow, blocking his attack. The dragon came crashing toward me, only to be deflected at the last second. The attack almost sent me and Yuzu flying.

Yuto's anger was palpable, his fists clenched at his sides as he stared me down. He was losing control, and it was becoming clear.

"Why do you keep fighting me?" he spat, his words sharp, almost as if they were a challenge.

I exhaled slowly, trying to keep my composure. The truth hung heavily in the air, but Yuto was too blinded by his rage to see it. "Because you think I'm from Duel Academy," I said, my voice calm despite the tension that seemed to crackle between us. "But I'm not. I'm not the enemy you think I am."

Yuto's eyes narrowed, but I could see the doubt creeping in, just for a moment. He didn't understand, and maybe he never would, but for a brief second, I thought I might have reached him. Then his anger flared again, and he was back to trying to tear me down.

It didn't matter. I had my own reasons for being here—reasons that were bigger than this duel. And as much as Yuto might hate it, I wasn't going anywhere.

"If your not going to listen to my words then I guess I'll just have to beat you with my duelling. I draw!"

Turn 6

"I activate the spell card pot of greed, drawing two cards"

I Looked at my hand and then to the field. I smirked as the gears started tuning in my head. 'Never thought I'd use this combo so soon.'

"I'd like you all to me this lovely knight, the monster Dragon Knight of creation."

Dragon Knight of creation

"I've never seen that monster before." Yuzu said, widening her eyes.

"Then I'll activate the spell card. Return of the dragon lords, bringing back Red-Eyes Darkness dragon back to life.

Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon LV9 (ATK 3600/DEF 2000)

"Now for battle. I attack your Phantom Knights of Cursed Javelin with my Dragon knight of creation!" My monster leapt forward making a clean cut, slicing the knight in two.

Yuto LP: 3800

"And with its defeat comes my monster's effect. I can send one level 7 or 8 dragon from my deck to the hand. This raised my Darkness dragon again by 300."

Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon LV9 (ATK 3900/DEF 2000)

"Now I'll attack your Ark dragon with my Darkness dragon." A beam of flames incinerated the dragon as it roared in pain." I could see the disappearance of his monster slowly breaking down Yuto himself.

Yuto LP:2900

I Looked at my hand conflicted. On one hand I wanted to fusion summon right now, but on the other I didn't want Yuto to think I was from that blasted school.

"If your thinking of fusion summoning just get it over with." I looked up at Yuto who seemed to have calmed. Looking into his eyes, I could see a hint of understanding. I nodded.

"I activate dragon knight of creation's effect. By sending it and one card in my hand to the grave I can special summon a dragon monster from the graveyard. I took the dragon out from the graveyard and looked at it. Memories of my childhood time with it flooded inside me as I smiled, happy at the thought of being able to play it again. "By the will of the heavens, I call forth the mighty one. From the depths of the eternal abyss, the Dragon of Kings arises.

With wings of flame and scales of steel, making its debut in this deck, i summon thee, Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand,"

Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand LV8 (ATK 2800/2800)

"With felgands effect I banish your Ark dragon in your graveyard and my dragon gains 500attack points." Felgrand roared as it rose up in power.

"Then I'll use a similar spell card you yourself used, Galaxy Queens Light to make my Darkness dragon a level 8 monster."

"What!" Said the cloaked figure. Even though his face was hidden I could tell his face was wide with shock.

"Then I'll use polymerisation in order to fuse these two monsters into a more powerful dragon. "From the light of dawn and the shadows of night, I call upon the Dragon of both realms,

Born from the balance of dark and light, With wings that shimmer like the sun's first rays, And scales that gleam like the deepest void, Appear before me, the harbinger of dawn and dusk!"

I summon thee, Light and Darkness Dragonlord!"

Light and Darkness Dragonlord LV10 (ATK 3400/DEF3000)

As the chant echoed across the battlefield, the air grew heavy, crackling with opposing energies that clashed and danced in harmony. A radiant light pierced through the shadows, illuminating the dark building as a towering figure emerged. The Light and Darkness Dragonlord descended, its massive form radiating both blinding brilliance and suffocating darkness.

Its wings were vast and majestic, one shimmering with a golden glow like the rays of a celestial sun, while the other seemed to absorb the surrounding light, a void of pure darkness. Its scales reflected this duality—pristine white along one side of its body, and abyssal black on the other, their surfaces glowing faintly with intricate runic patterns that seemed alive with energy. Everyone's eyes where focused on the magnificent dragon as it's blinding but also terrifying presence became the centre of attention. Yuto for the time forgot his earlier questions and distrust of Kai as he peered at the amazed dragon

"I end my turn." I said. This seemed to snap Yuto back to reality as he glared at me.

"That card you used. Galaxy queens light. How do someone like you have it!" He demanded.

"A dear friend gave it to me after sharing an amazing battle. The man fought with monsters as powerful as the galaxies." Yuto nodded, seemingly understanding what I was implying.

"My turn. I draw."

Turn 7

Yuto didn't even look at the card he just drew before making his move. "I summon Phantom Knights of Silent Boots."

Phantom Knights of Silent Boots LV3 (ATK 200/DEF 1200)

I Prepared myself for whatever Yuto was going to do. This time, I didn't have any traps to protect myself, I just hoped my dragon was more than enough.

"I attack your monster with my monster."

"Huh!" I said dumbly as everyone adopted similar expressions as me. The feeble monster attacked my monster as Light and Darkness Dragonlord just flicked it, destroying it instantly.

Yuto LP: 0

I stood there in silence, confused at what just happened.

"Uuuh… I think you just won Kai." Yuzu, said as she too struggled to comprehend this.

"Why?" Was all I could mutter out.

"Cuz, I believe I was wrong about you. This match shouldn't have happened in the first place. I apologize for my earlier outbursts." Yuto said with his head down in a bow of apology.

I started walking towards him, testing his resolve. "How do you know I am not the person you think I am."

Seeing this, the cloaked figure started moving, intending to prevent me from carding the man.

"Julia!" shouted Declan from her duel disk as she snapped out of her days and looked at it. "Stop that cloaked man from interfering." He ordered. It seemed Declan himself was interested in what I would do. Julia quickly leaped in front of the man, duel disk on in case something happened. The man glared at her as he racked his brain thinking of what to do. However, he was too late as I was already in front of the still bowing Yuto.

I looked at him, before kneeling and placing a hand on his soldier. "I understand your pain. In fact, I share it. I too, has lost people in the way you have. But let me tell you something a wise lady told me earlier today; you may have lost people in the raid duel academy made but their spirit still lives on within you. It's up to you to carry on their legacies and will and to keep moving forward. One day, you'll achieve the goal you're fighting for—not because of anger or vengeance, but because you have the strength to stand for what's right." Yuto looked up at me, tears falling into his eyes, it felt like the weight of the loss of his friends and family, as well as Lulu was just hitting him now.

"GET AWAY FROM HIM!" Shouted the clocked figure as he pushed the girl to the floor before rushing between us and pushing me away. Yuzu ran to my side as I fell to the floor.

I quickly took her hand and got up. I didn't know why but something about this guy made me froze. What's this feeling… Is it fear. Why would I fear this guy? My instincts where telling me this guy was dangerous. Very dangerous.

I tightened my grip on my duel disk, eyes fixed on the figure in front of me. He moved slowly, deliberate, like a predator stalking its prey. His black cloak billowed with each step, and though I couldn't see his face, I could feel the weight of his anger pressing down on me.

"Like I told you and your friend already you've got the wrong guy," I said, trying to sound calm, though my heart pounded in my chest. "I don't know who you think I am, but I'm not your enemy."

He let out a low, humourless laugh that sent a chills down my spine. "Spare me your excuses," he said, his voice sharp and cutting. "Duel Academy's spies are everywhere, but I see through your lies."

I clenched my fists, frustration bubbling inside me. "What is your problem? Who even are you?"

He stopped a few feet away from me, his head lowering slightly. For a moment, the building was silent, the air thick with tension. Yuzu gripped my hand like she was trying to pull me away but was too afraid too. Then, his voice broke through, deep and resonant, like it carried the weight of an ancient vow.

"I am the one who walks between dimensions, the guardian of the Numbers, the shield against those who bring destruction. These cards are my duty… my destiny."

I barely had time to process his words before he gripped the edge of his cloak and threw it back in one swift motion. The sight hit me like a punch to the gut. His hair flared wildly, black with crimson streaks that caught the dim light like flames. His eyes, sharp and red as embers, locked onto mine with unshakable intensity. Around his neck, a golden pendant glinted faintly, as if it held some kind of power.

"I am Yuma Tsukumo, Protector of the Numbers!" he declared, his voice echoing off the alley walls. "And if you're with Duel Academy, then you're my enemy. Prepare yourself. I won't let anyone destroy what I've sworn to protect!"

The force of his words hit me harder than anything I'd ever faced before. For a moment, I couldn't speak, couldn't move. It wasn't just his appearance—it was the sheer presence he carried, like he was more than just a duellist.

Finally, I found my voice. "You've got it all wrong!" I shouted, taking a step back. "I'm not with Duel Academy—I'm fighting against them!"

Yuto suddenly grabbed Yuma's hand, "He is telling the truth, we don't need this pointless fight."

His eyes narrowed, his posture rigid as he weighed my words. "Yes, we do. He may not be with duel academy, but he definitely knows of it, that tells me he is either from the xyz or the fusion dimension. I guess I'll find out from this duel." he said, his voice sharp and unyielding. "Duel me-"

"Yuzu! Kai!" Came a distant voice. Suddenly a bright pink light illuminated the area as the two men disappeared. Yuzu and I stared at the place in slight shock and confusion. I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding while noticing Julia was gone too.

"Guys! There you are." Came the voice of Yuya Sakaki. I looked in slight surprise as I noticed it was now dark outside. "Mom and Shuzo where worried about you, because you guy hadn't arrived home." Something was up though. I could tell it in his eyes. It felt like he was being wary of me or something. I was too tired to worry about it though. Yuzu was also staring at me as if waiting for the answers to the million questions forming in her head.

"Kai-"

"Not now Yuzu. I know what you want to answer but I'm going save both of our time and tell you I cant tell you any of the answers to them yet. You guys aren't strong enough to handle it. Not yet at least. I promise though, when the time is right, you'll know. If you still want training, meet me here at 10am." With that said I walked off, leaving the two confused. As I was walking away, I could literally feel Yuya's hardened gaze on me.

I sighed 'Tomorrow is going to be a hella annoying day. I don't know Yuya has seen or heard but I can tell he doesn't trust me at the moment. I wonder if its because of Yuzu. Oh well, I'm sure she will clear it up. Though I'm not sure what she will tell him.' I looked up at the starry night as the two images of Yuma appeared in my head, remembering his words. "Who was that guy? Also, what the hell are the Numbers?'

Authors note: Jesus! This took me two days to write Lol. Probably should have separated into two separate parts but I wanted to introduce the new Ark right. A lot of bombshells this chapter as we see the interaction of Kai and Yuzu, A bit of Kai's past has been revealed (Wonder what connection it has to the dark magician) Yuto went all Zarc mode, that was crazy. Yuma Tsukumo is in Arc V! WHAT! What does the numbers gotta do with duel academy? What does Declan think about all this? He got super quiet during the duel. What's up with Yuya, the guy just arrived, right? And what's Kai's connection to Duel Academy? Is this the greatest piece of fiction you have ever laid eyes upon or what!? guess we might find out in the next chapter. Peace!

P.S. If I made any mistakes in the chapter regarding effects and stuff, meh who cares. Doesn't mean you can't a comment on it, knock yourselves out, I'll answer the ones I feel like on the next chapter. Hope y'all had a lovely New Year!
