Chapter 48 - Jack, the Little Gift

The Parasitic Scarecrow Jack... One Step Away from G Falling!

The difference between reality and his assumptions was barely a fraction, but it was this tiny, insignificant error that ultimately led him down the path to destruction.

Jack, who viewed humans as nothing more than insignificant vermin, who enjoyed torturing them and savored watching them struggle in the face of death, now found himself facing his own demise.

The horror world, more often than not, is not so different from the human world. But in most cases, it is governed solely by the law of the jungle.

In rare instances, however, the rule of "big fish eat small fish" can be broken.

For example... by someone like Yi Bai, with his special connections!

Suppressing the fear rising in his chest, Jack maneuvered his puppet and spoke up, "Doctor Yin, actually... we can still talk this out, can't we? There's no irreconcilable conflict between us, right?"

He continued, his tone filled with a hint of desperation, "And as for the Rose Countess—she's of such noble status... how could someone as lowly as me deserve her personal intervention?"

"Everything today... is just a misunderstanding! I, Jack, am willing to pay any price to clear this misunderstanding. How about it?"

Where once Jack was a tyrant, now he was nothing more than a craven, humble creature.

His cautious and obsequious demeanor, paired with his grotesque and terrifying appearance, gave off an odd, almost unbearable vibe.

"A misunderstanding?" Yi Bai couldn't help but sneer. "There's no such thing as a real misunderstanding in this world. There's only fear from lacking the strength to back up one's words."

"Rose Sister, you must have heard... Mr. Jack, the parasitic scarecrow from the Black Crow Hospital, is the target I want you to eliminate," Yi Bai said, his tone indifferent.

"And now that you've agreed to this transaction, the rest is in your hands!"

Rose Countess smiled sweetly. "Don't worry, my little brother. Soon enough, you'll hear the news of his demise."

With that, the magic circle's reflection vanished.

From beginning to end, Rose Countess showed no intention of acknowledging Jack.

Even though Jack had humbled himself to the point of begging for a "misunderstanding" to be resolved, it was all in vain.

The "call" had already been terminated.

No matter how persuasive Jack was with his silver tongue, he had no opportunity to speak further.

Time, like the soft drip of water, passed quietly in the silence.

With the protection of Quelles and Lina, even in his frenzied state, Jack was powerless to harm Yi Bai. All he could do was stand there, motionless and numb.

No one knew the true condition of Jack's real body.

Soon, the body, its features warped by the parasitic straw, displayed an expression of pure fear.

Then, like a machine malfunctioning, it fell silent.

Yi Bai felt a flicker of satisfaction. Rose Countess was efficient.

Once the deal was struck, she'd clearly wasted no time in acting on it.

Meanwhile, Jack's real body was hiding in the nearby supernatural market, just outside Black Crow Hospital.

He trembled, dropping to his knees. Inside the hollow eye sockets made of straw, the emotions of "despair" and "fear" flowed.

Rose Countess had found him.

With the terrifying domain power of a Blood-clad Banshee, she forcibly pulled his scattered soul fragments back together from his many puppets.

Though this soul reunion strengthened Jack's power somewhat, the truth remained: he was still just a Red-clad Banshee!

Facing off against a Blood-clad Banshee, there was no escape.

And even worse... he now faced not one, but two Blood-clad Banshees!

Yes, Rose Countess was not alone.

Standing beside her was a petite, adorable figure—just under five feet tall, with a yellow talisman on her forehead.

This was Jiang Ling, the Mistress of the Tomb of Corpses!

Having just made a large profit alongside Yi Bai, she was still basking in the excitement of their successful venture.

Her excitement hadn't even worn off before she overheard Rose Countess mentioning Yi Bai's payment to eliminate Jack.

True to her nature, Jiang Ling had playfully flattered Rose Countess, earning herself a chance to join the hunt for Jack.

Thus, the two mighty Blood-clad Banshees were now in pursuit of the Red-clad Banshee, Jack.

Rose Countess's blood-red domain, Jiang Ling's grayish zombie aura—one crimson, one ash—turned the once bustling supernatural market into a stark divide, a world within a world.

"Wh-what... what's happening here?" one helpless, high-level ghost trembled in the corner of the market.

Beside him, a group of lesser ghosts, too weak to even speak, lay motionless on the ground, shaking violently in the wake of the Blood-clad Banshee's oppressive aura.

This was the pressure exerted by higher-ranked entities on lower-level spirits.

Though neither Rose Countess nor Jiang Ling had targeted the lower-tier ghosts directly, the mere presence of their domains was more than enough to crush these weaker creatures.

Back at the core of this darkened domain, Jack was pinned down, his movements completely restricted, sinking deeper into despair.

"Shall we kill him now?" Jiang Ling asked, her voice filled with sweet malice.

Her gray domain, like countless monstrous arms reaching from the depths of hell, seemed poised to tear Jack's scarecrow body to pieces at any moment.

"Go ahead, but..." Rose Countess trailed off, a playful smile on her lips. "Make sure his body stays intact. I plan on sending a little gift to Yi Bai, and I'd like to collect the remaining payment for our transaction."

Jiang Ling's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Rose Sister~ What's the rest of the payment? You didn't tell me there was more than just the ghost coins involved."

Her voice was so sweet it made Rose Countess shiver, her blood stirring with annoyance.

She had been so focused on preparing a gift for Yi Bai that she had completely forgotten the temptation that was Jiang Ling. If Jiang Ling discovered that Yi Bai's blood—200 milliliters of it—was also part of the transaction, the situation could become complicated.

After all, Rose Countess, a vampire, knew just how alluring Yi Bai's blood could be.

She herself couldn't resist the temptation, and Jiang Ling, with her vampiric nature, certainly wouldn't either.

Even before coming here, Jiang Ling had been upset that she hadn't been able to taste Yi Bai's blood during their previous dealings.

Yi Bai's blood had almost become an obsession for the little zombie girl.
