Selene took a step closer, her silver eyes narrowing. "And yet, you're here. In the imperial palace. In his room."
Elias swallowed hard, refusing to meet her gaze. "I was sent here by the temple. That's all."
"That's all?" she echoed, her voice laced with disbelief. "Then why were you sneaking around? Why did you risk getting caught to help him?"
Elias didn't answer. He couldn't.
Selene's expression hardened. "You expect me to believe that you're here out of duty? That you don't remember anything? That you don't remember him?"
Elias forced himself to remain composed. "I'm not here to discuss the past."
Selene's frustration boiled over, and she crossed her arms, tapping her fingers impatiently. "You can lie to everyone else, but don't think you can lie to me. I know who you are, Elias. And I know why you left."
