Signalling his soldiers to take off the gags, Victor was ready for the verbal onslaught that was coming. As he predicted the twins and Josephine began to scream, curse, beg and bargain with Victor. Typical to his nature, Vipon waited until his family stopped their pathetic ramblings. Once they had tired themselves out Vipon began to speak.
"What do you think you are doing Victor? I'm sure you know such an act is heinous. Are you sure that you can handle the consequences of such actions?" Vipon asked his son.
"Father, I am doing this for our territory. There is soon to be a war between the Cassell's and the Cruyff's. Do you know why? Because Veronica was almost assassinated! Thankfully it failed, but I was left in a coma for almost 3 days after I defended her from the assassins. The assailants admitted to Duke Cruyff hiring them and even had a letter with his seal on it" Victor stated somewhat erratically.
"Knowing how you favour the twins and your wife you would've dragged us to fight a war started by that arrogant Cruyff pig and his bitch sister. I would not see our territory used as the battleground for their war. With this coup, I am ensuring the future of Luxenberg," Victor said, trying to justify his reasoning for committing treason.
No matter how much Josephine protested or tried to deny it fell upon deaf ears. Vipon began to understand what caused Victor to commit a coup. It was apparent to Vipon how Victor had been treated by himself and the rest of the family but he never imagined it'd push to this.
Trying to think of a solution Vipon's brain began to work, however, Katrina began to speak interrupting his train of thought. "Brother Victor, what will happen to us?" Katrina asked, hoping for her brother to show some mercy
With pity in her eyes, Victor hesitated for a moment. His decision will have massive consequences. Killing them or letting them live, both options had their pros and cons but this was not something he could take lightly. Victor looked at Katrina and replied, "Well for starters you will be tossed in a dungeon. I'm still deciding whether I should let you live or not.
Hearing the possibility of death Katrina began to be hysteric, Klaus and Josephine joined in the panic. Knowing that talking with his father would be impossible while they were blabbering and being loud he signalled the soldiers to remove the 3 redheads from the dining hall.
With them no longer in the room, Victor turned to his father. With a more serious and almost lamenting expression, Victor said, "I truly wish it didn't have to come to this father, but there was no other choice. You would not sit idly by as I dealt with the others."
Acknowledging his son's reason Vipon did not change his expression or even move. "I see, so what happens now? Shall I expect a quick death or am I to live my days out in a dungeon." Vipon said in a monotone. Victor was becoming reluctant to answer that question, he had already made a decision about what to do with his father.
"A quick death shall be granted to you Father. It will be a mercy, you will not spend your life rotting in a cell waiting for your end." Victor proclaimed. He grabbed for his pistol and began to load it while Vipon replied, "All I ask is for a clean death then."
Giving a nod Victor aimed his pistol at Vipon's temple. Allowing his father some final words Vipon said, "I have no regrets, do what you have to do Victor." Even in the face of death his father never changed, which slightly comforted Victor. Closing his eyes Victor took a long deep breath. His palms began to sweat and his heart was almost thumping out of his chest. Slowly he squeezed the trigger.
With a loud bang, Vipon's lifeless body dropped straight to the floor. Blood began to drain from his corpse while the light from his eyes faded. Victor stood over his father's corpse petrified. He was dead, and Victor was the one to kill him.
It was official he was the new duke. Vipon's death ensured Victor's ascension. Nevertheless, instead of feeling triumphant, it felt hollow. His father may have treated him terribly but to end his life in such a manner made Victor rethink everything.
'Did I need to kill him? I already had half the Dukedom on my side. No! It had to be done. Him still being alive meant I was not truly the ruler of this territory.' These thoughts warred inside Victor's mind as he tried to convince himself that Duke Vipon's death was the right decision.
Convinced he needed rest to properly process Vipon's death Victor went to his usual mundane room and slept while his soldiers under the command of General Rapp completed the coup.
With the sun's arrival, the next day had begun. During the night General Rapp not only locked down the perimeter but was able to venture off into the city and bring in officials who remained loyal to the Duke or Duchess.
The guards they had captured began to switch allegiances and swore subservience to General Rapp in the absence of Victor. By the time Victor was out of bed and in the courtyard he was greeted by a dozen or more captured officials. Looking at General Rapp Victor could only give an impressed nod at him.
Turning to the prisoners, Victor spoke in an authoritative tone. "Duke Vipon Luxenberg is dead. Although he admirably kept this territory afloat, his wife and twins saw to using our realm's funds for their own selfish desires. I could not stand by as our territory became impoverished. So I offer you a choice my father's esteemed officials. Join me and stand by my side as we bring the Luxenberg Dukedom to new heights. Or rot in a cell until you are ready to join me."
Convincingly Victor managed to scare or tempt the officials into swearing loyalty. With most of the territory's top brass on Victor's side, the palace was able to find order again after such an eventful night. Soon after smoothing things over inside the palace, a notice was sent around the territory. It announced the death of Duke Vipon Luxenberg and that Victor Luxenberg the eldest son of the Duke was now the ruler of the territory.
The circumstances of the death of Duke Vipon were never released. The small circle that knew of how he died were watched carefully and made sure not to reveal the details. Rumours began to circulate about how Vipon died. Some guessed correctly about Victor killing him and others made theories like, a heart attack or being poisoned by his wife.
When news of Vipons death reached Josephine and her twins they began to emotionally detach from reality. If Victor could kill Vipon they were sure to meet a similar fate. They desperately needed to get word to Harold Cruyff. If he heard about their current situation they were sure he would rally an army and march to save them.
While his captive family members freaked out about their uncertain futures Victor was now moving into the master bedroom. It was time for him to properly assume the mantle as a ruler. While he was getting his new room sorted a blue screen from the system appeared.
