After completing the quest involving his father, the Duke, Victor was excited to see the fruits of his labour and collect his rewards.
He tapped the screen without hesitation. With a flash, a new blue screen displaying the rewards appeared.
Reward 1: 5000 Store points.
Reward 2: 10-man bodyguard unit summon
Reward 3: Body Revitalization Pill
Victor's jaw dropped. 5000 Store Points was a hefty amount and could help him in the long run. Another good thing was securing another 10 elite soldiers. Victor already knew that he'd choose more French Imperial Guard troops.
Finally the Body Revitalization Pill. Going straight to his inventory his curiosity was eating away at him. He'd never seen a pill-type reward. When selecting the pill its description was, 'A pill that can turn your body into its best form.'
Victor was gobsmacked. This was pretty much a cheat item. With this pill, he could save at least 2 years of work of cultivating his body into a fit and strong specimen. Victor started to become hysterical. He could not stop grinning to the point you'd think he was a lunatic.
Victor fell to his knees with his hands clapped together and whispered, "Thank you almighty system.'
After a few minutes of worship a floating screen Victor recomposed himself. He would save the pill until he had returned to his room. His current priority was to meet his new followers. With the maid who had escorted him earlier nowhere to be found, Victor escorted himself to the palace entrance.
At the bottom of the entrance stairs, the nearby soldiers stationed on patrol or guard were gathered dumbfounded.
In front of them were 10 well-equipped and intimidating-looking soldiers standing at attention. Dressed in sophisticated blue and white uniforms with red epaulettes resting on their shoulders these soldiers paid no mind to the gawking onlookers. Their heads faced the stairs with their adorned black shakos with red plumes paraded at the front.
Victor descended the stairs slowly approaching these stoic figures. When he was Conrad he loved learning about the Napoleonic era and now some of the most elite soldiers of the time were now at his command.
The Dukedom soldier paid no mind to their young lord as he approached, they were too enamoured with the prestigious-looking soldiers.
Seeing Victor approach the commander of the soldiers shouted, "Salute!' In unison, all the soldiers dragged their right feet and stomped while nuzzling their top-of-the-line muskets into their right shoulder.
The Dukedom soldiers were startled at the sudden outburst by the foreign-looking soldiers. None of them understood why they did such action until they saw the commander approach Victor.
"We greet our lord, Victor Luxenberg. I am Corporal Anton Junot, the leader of this unit," the corporal said in an authoritative tone. Victor could only smile and look in admiration of his new followers.
"Well met corporal. I look forward to your cooperation," Victor said in a cheerful tone.
While the interaction between Corporal Junot and Victor was happening the Dukedom soldiers could only look on in disbelief. The young lord who had been abused and locked away was now being addressed by elite-looking soldiers. It didn't make any sense and yet none of them were willing to interrupt them.
"I would like you to set up camp outside of the city. I will have reinforcements coming so establishing a base that we can operate out from I will send you funds to build and maintain it," said Victor trying to figure out how he would manage his newfound soldiers.
"By your will Lord," replied Corporal Junot.
"Once you establish the base send a soldier to inform me of your location. I will choose someone trustworthy to be a liaison between us," Victor instructed.
With all that said Corporal Junot led his men away and out of the city to establish a camp. After they left Victor was swarmed by the soldiers who had witnessed the interaction.
"Who were they? Why did they address you as their lord? How do you know those soldiers?" the soldiers interrogated. Victor feeling overwhelmed by their questions was ready to fake being sick, but, the constant barrage of questions were unescapable and too much attention was bad.
Figuring out a way to escape from this situation two servants approached the group of soldiers huddled around Victor.
"Young Lord it is time to return to your room, please allow us to escort you," asked an elderly gentleman dressed in a black waistcoat.
Realising that he had a way out of this tricky situation all Victor did was nod and followed the two servants back to his room. During their walk back Victor didn't recognise either of them. The elderly man who asked to escort him back was leading while a young-looking maid followed them from behind.
Once arriving at Victor's room the servants followed inside.
"Forgive me for my rudeness earlier Lord, I assumed you didn't want to deal with the soldiers so I acted disrespectfully to distract them," said the elderly gentleman
"Allow me to introduce ourselves. My name is Sebastian and this is Florence. We live to serve you, Lord."
Victor remembered he had summoned two servants with his first lot of Store Points. Now he had allies inside the palace who could not only serve him but also collect information from the other staff.
"It's nice to meet the both of you, make sure you are always assigned to me. It'll make life easier for us if so." Victor remarked.
After some idle chatter with his new servants, Victor dismissed them. All he could think about was the rewards from his quest that he had completed.
Firstly Victor went through the process of summoning another 10-man unit of the French Imperial Guard troops. After confirming it, he then went to decide how to use his Store Points. 5000 was a decent amount and there were plenty of options.
Firstly there was a 100-man Infantry Unit summon which cost 5000 Store Points. This greatly tempted Victor to have a small company of men that could help him rally support from the vassals who weren't affiliated with the twins and Victor's stepmother.
There were a few low-level skills books in swordsmanship, tactics and history which still cost around 500 Store Points each. Then there was some too-expensive skills book and unit summons that Victor was tempted to save up for.
In the end, Victor couldn't pass up the chance to have a company of soldiers at his disposal. The only issue was supplying and feeding 120 soldiers. He didn't have any personal wealth or assets to purchase supplies.
'Ping!' a purple flashing screen popped up in front of Victor.
