Chapter 13 - Clarissa

I rushed to the restroom to check myself.

Standing in front of the mirror, I wiped the tears off my face.

Breathe

Why did he have to do that?

My life's already such a huge mess and he HAD to make it even worse.

I don't even know him, but he's had such a huge impact in my simple life. First, I crash into his car and now.... as egoistic as he is, he bought the café and now I have lost my job.

What kind of person does that?

Dude, I know you're rich and all..

If I can just pay off the debt for his car, I'll be free.

I'll be free from him, from his stupid, stupid... manipulation and simply walk away.

Composing myself and muttering some words of motivation which I knew was not working, I walked out of the restroom.

 ********

I fiddled with my fingers as I watched the others on the dance floor.

I mean ball floor or whatever... I don't know.

I glanced over at each and every person here.

All the ladies looked like they have had SOME sort of surgery and I just realised that all the ladies I tried to talk to were all going crazy about fashion shows and clothes and what have you.

I now see the reason to which Sophie wanted to look IT.

There's some real competition.

Suddenly, my mind just drifted back to HIM.

Mr. Brandon Bartels.

Who according to my very filtered research is a filthy rich business man, owns more than fifty construction companies around the world and currently London's.....

MOST ELIGIBLE BACHELOR.

Pfft.

Any lady forced on this guy will be probably the unluckiest person alive (apart from me) on planet earth.

His dreamy eyes....

Shut up subconscious.

Sipping my champagne, I noticed through the corner of my eye, a man dragging a lady by the hand... forcefully.

Is that a thing around here?

You DO. NOT. treat ladies that way.

Being the Clarissa that I am, I decided to follow them.

This guy took the girl to the same place Mr. Bugatti took me and I realised,

He was trying to force himself on her.

"Hey, you!" I shouted.

Seriously?

You had a good intro and all you could say was "hey, you!" ?

Pathetic.

He immediately let go of the lady and started strolling towards me.

"Who do we have here?"

"Get away from me."

He came closer until my back was pressed into the wall.

"You are a pretty one, aren't you."

He is handsome and all but his breath but good gracious.. his breath STINKS.

He started playing with my hair and before I could say jack, he was pulled off me and punched in the face by...

Mr. Bugatti.

"Get away from them!"

"You'll pay for this Bartels."

He said and left.

Brandon turned to me.

"Try to be a little smart, next time will you?"

"Umm, thanks."

He looked at me.

"Is that a CV?"

He chuckled.

"What?"

"Are you that desperate for a job?"

So much for being a hero!

"Good luck with that."

He said and turned.

"I know I might sound a little desperate but can you like... grant me a job, maybe a receptionist or something?"

"What makes you think I'd do that?"

I stood there, silent.

He looked at me strangely before continuing.

"Marry me."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me."

"And what makes you think I'd want to be with someone like you?"

He scoffed.

"A beggar with a choice."

Is he for real?

"Sorry but no."

He clenched his jaw.

"Suit yourself."

 **********

Still in the shock from earlier, I didn't realised that I had bumped into someone.

"I am so sorry."

I said apologising quickly.

"It's okay, dear."

She was a lady probably in her fifties.

"You are very pretty, must I add."

"Thank you."

"Who are you here with?"

"Umm, Sophie. Sophie McAdams."

"Huh."

She looked at what I was holding and stared back at me.

"Would you like to work as my PA?"

She said.

Hold on, wait.

Shocked, I stuttered trying to speak.

"Yes, I'd love that."

I tried handing over my CV to her but she declined.

"Here's my card, call me."

She said.

"Thank you so much."

Maybe bringing this CV to a party wasn't such a bad idea.

"Rissa, Rissa, we need to leave."

"What's wrong."

"I am not feeling too well."

Thank God, I get to leave now.

Without saying another word, Sophie dragged me out of the place.
