Chapter 16 - Clarissa x Brandon

Clarissa

Reading countless books talking about various forms of love through comedy, tragedy and now I might be living in both?

I remember purely that I told my nanny at my orphanage that I was going full on Cinderella just maybe not with the wicked step mother and sisters just the glass slipper and my Prince Charming but now I might be going none of those.

My life decided to take a huge turn, whereas I got the girl with the brown hair for my glass slipper and an egoistic, rude, proud and smug guy for Prince Charming, might as well just make that Prince Cunning.

Right?

Looking at myself sitting in front of a mirror with a veil being put over my face, all I could now was to just stop the tears from falling.

Even if I did cry, everyone was just going to think of it as tears of joy or even wedding jitters.

Well my life definitely took an upgrade cause I am that girl who has never been on a date, been that one nerd even through college and now I am getting married.

How did this happen?

Well last week, some thugs broke into my apartment and Brandon helped with that and suggested to get married early and that I was going to move in with him.

Flashback

"Then it's settled"

I felt myself melt when he said that.

"We are going to have to make this real, real enough for the world to believe."

End of flashback

Present day

"We are going to have to make this real, real enough for the world to believe."

With that memory, a tear finally escaped.

"Clarissa, don't cry, I know this is a happy moment for you."

That's Megan.

Brandon's mother and also my potential employer.

Well about the employer thing, Brandon and I sort of lied that have been together for a while and so, I just told her by that I only wanted to surprise Brandon at the party and that I wanted to polish my skills at being a personal assistant.

Is that a good enough lie?

********

As I walked through the doors with my flowers in hand, my heart was thumping louder than any drumroll could ever be.

I nervously looked down because of all the attention and well mainly because the heels I was wearing was killing me.

Walking to the altar was one of the longest moments in my whole entire life.

Then my eyes met with his.

Snow White sure let go of the butterflies cause my stomach started to feel like a zoo raid was going on.

Brandon stood there in a full black tuxedo and perfectly styled, it should be against the law to look that good.

His brown orbs held very little to no emotion whatsoever and I guess so were mine.

But hey, this jittery feeling only comes once so I am going to make the best of it.

"We are gathered here today to witness the happy union between Brandon Bartels and Clarissa Russell."

Happy?

"Anyone against this, please speak now or forever hold your peace."

Maybe someone would and I would not have to do this and I might have a chance at making the best escape from a wedding.

But, no.

Everyone seated here is all smiles.

"Do you, Brandon Bartels, take this beautiful lady, Clarissa Russell to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health till death do you part?"

"I do."

That was easy.

"Do you, Clarissa Russell , take Brandon Bartels, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health till death do you part?"

You mean, till contract does you part.

Do I?

I looked at Brandon and back at the priest.

"I - I do."

Given that, we exchanged the rings and is it just me or are Brandon's hands the warmest?

" With the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride."

Here goes nothing.

*squeals*

Your first kiss, Rissa.

My palms felt sweaty when he lifted the veil.

He stared at me for a long time before....

Kissing my cheek.

So much for a first kiss.

Brandon

Seeing the smile on both my parents face made everything clarified that this agreement actually worked.

Taking the vows with Clarissa, something felt strange.

All I could think of was how beautiful she looked.

And how I fought the urge not to kiss her.

What is wrong with you Brandon?

Until I locked eyes with HER .

Sophie McAdams.

The girl who broke me.

I felt my blood boil within.

I knew my parents would never have invited her, so who did?

I got my answer when I saw Clarissa talking to her. They seemed close.

But how?

When I saw Clarissa engulfed in a conversation with Alan, I approached them.

"Clarissa, we need to leave."

"Relax bro, it's your big day." Alan said.

"Not now Alan."

"But why?"

I grabbed her by the waist to avoid any suspicion and left.

Walking towards the car, Clarissa tried to get out of my grip but was failing terribly.

"Where are we going?"

I ignored her questions and got her into the car and signalled my driver.

"What's going on?"

Clarissa

"What's going on?" I asked.

"You really want to know what's going on?"

I nodded.

Brandon pushed a button and soon a black wall separated us from the driver.

"I am sure you know that none of this would have happened if you did not crash into my car so now that we are married we only pretend to be a couple outside the house, when we are inside, we are our own people and I don't want you crossing paths with me. Am I understood?"

I nodded as he was looking much stern than ever.

When we got to our destination, he got out of the car fuming, I don't know why.

Leaving me in front of a huge magnificent mansion.

Here it goes....

Mrs. Clarissa Bartels.
