Kazutora's POV
I had remained determined to earn her trust, thinking it had to be something besides what I initially believed that keeps her from coming back, even though Toman was disbanded. I needed to learn more but asking about her seemed to make open wounds more apparent.
"If she wants to stay away from us, we need to respect that." Chifuyu's words frustrated him. Every time he brought her up, he said very little and always the same thing.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" He couldn't take walking on eggshells around his friend about Y/n. "I thought you liked her, at least? Are you willing to let her go without even checking to see why she won't come back? Do you even know why?" Kazutora's knuckles turned white from frustration.
The silence that followed made Kazutora think he had gone too far, but before the worry could grow to be too much, Chifuyu answered softly. "I saw her before she moved. She was walking into the train station, and I ran up to her." Hearing his friends' voice start to crack, he couldn't figure out what was so bad that he wouldn't keep pursuing her. "I asked her how she was, and she smiled at me, saying she was fine. I knew something was wrong, and I should've asked. I was just so excited. I didn't even notice that when I said 'let's get together when you get back', she only smiled. She got on the train right after and that was when I noticed it was going way too far for it to just be a trip."
Chifuyu slammed his fist on the counter. "I pulled out my phone to call her, but her number must've been changed. I looked for her too, Kazutora. But…I can't help wondering if she left because of me."
I get it now. Chifuyu feels guilty.
Kazutora decided not to bring her up again, but keeping her address in mind, he made every effort to plan to be there for her when possible.
It's my turn to help her.
Chifuyu's POV
He knew he got upset way more than he had been used to in years. Talking about it is more painful than thinking about her. And he does. Every. Single. Day. He missed her. He really missed her. But what can he say to her?
'Sorry I was less than available most of the time even though I said I liked you, but it's fine, right?'
Letting her go is the best option…it has to be…..right?
He began to think back on what Kazutora asked him.
"Do you even know why?"
He feels like a coward because he wants to know why, but what if it really is his fault?
"Do I have a chance?"
"Always."
Chifuyu grabbed his jacket, heading off to find Y/n.
