Y/n's POV
I quickly opened the door, letting Kakucho inside my home. Closing the door behind him, I leapt at him, wrapping my arms tightly around his neck as tears ran down my cheeks. One of his arms wrapped hesitantly around my waist, while the other covered the back of my head as I sobbed on his shoulder.
"Hello, Princess. Miss me that much?" His words allowed me to laugh through the tears as I nodded. He held me close as I continued to cry, but I knew I eventually needed to let him go. I pulled back, trying to wipe my tears away with the backs of my sleeves.
Kakucho's POV
I hate this so much. Doing recon on a past love for no reason is hurtful. Out of everything he's made me do, I think I hate this the most.
He hadn't seen her in years and never would have again for her sake if not for Mikey giving him a mission to do so. He had been asked to come see her specifically today to talk to her while he stayed in his ear. Kakucho wasn't an idiot. He knew Mikey asked for this day for a reason and he already knew they had once….well…no one is sure really and asking at this point would end with an immediate death sentence.
He could've come to see her himself, but for someone so cold, he is still very much afraid of things. Especially when it comes to loved ones.
As he checked over Y/n, aiming the hidden camera to look her over but doing his best to forget that the leader of Bonten is watching as well as listening to their every interaction. He couldn't help but feel worried about her. She was smiling at him, sure, being attentive with her questions that he had to consistently lie about but remembering her cry in his arms as soon as she saw him, something must've happened.
Izana, please forgive me for not taking care of her.
He wanted to look around but didn't want to open what looked like a very open wound. As he tried his best to see what kind of person she was now, he noticed her home was fairly empty with nothing but neutral colors once he made his way through the foyer.
She was someone who enjoyed bright colors in the past. This seems so off.
"I'm gonna get us something to eat, Kaku. I'll be right back. Please make yourself at home!" His heart thudded in his chest at the nickname, watching her run off to the kitchen before shaking his head to continue looking around. Once he made it completely out of the foyer, he was speechless.
He looked around at pictures she had hung around her living room. Pictures of her with Emma, Mikey, and many, if not all of the Toman members. His heart caught in his throat when he his eyes landed on a sketch of him and Izana with smiles. The picture brought tears to his eyes, but he shook it off as he tried to be calm around her so he could do what he was supposed to without getting her killed.
"Show me Y/n again." Mikey's cold voice rang loudly in his ear. He made his way toward the kitchen, standing far enough back to keep from distracting her. She stood in front of the sink, rinsing off and slicing fruit, when he looked just past her to see three items sitting beside each other on the kitchen windowsill.
A lion, a white tiger, and an M& M plushie.
Before he could say anything, his thoughts were interrupted. "That's enough."
Y/n's POV
I heard the front door open and close suddenly and felt my heart drop. I ran to look around, trying to think of how I may have pushed away someone else when I caught sight of a scribbled note lying on the floor. I bent to pick it up and as I read it, the worry dissipated.
I promise I'll come to see you later, Princess.
