Chapter 36 - Roundup

Grahm moved his way through the rounded-up slaves, it was necessary to count how many harpies, how many minotaurs, and other races they were able to capture.

It was important to count the amount of males and females too however, that could wait.

It would be difficult to train these demi-humans to be obedient workers, but the hard part was already done by capturing so many of them.

Once handlers get their hands on them they could finally stop relying on human workers for dangerous and labarous jobs in some areas.

Grahm was not stupid of course, a large part of the females would be sold into pleasure districts, working to increase the morale of human customers as they get to use the bodies of demi-human women.

A lot of them haven't been used to being treated so roughly and it showed, while some minor groups had shown resistance their will to fight against their captor collapsed once the gigantic Blood Elemental had fallen.

Fortunately for human soldiers none of the prisoners were combatants, while they were stronger by nature they couldn't fight.

Grahm made way past the newly acquired slaves, a small enclosure had been built to keep them contained as they prepared to send them back to Valar.

They were cramped and had only enough space to lie down.

The female Harpy that mocked him before had lost her smirk as Aurelia and her squad had decimated her champion's elemental.

"So is Tormentor still coming to save you?" Grahm crouched before the fence, the woman looked at him with so much hatred that it could kill a lesser man.

"Fuck you, monster." She spat at Grahm's face.

With a swipe, Grahm cleaned up his face from the spit. "Common now girl, you can't treat your new masters like that."

Grahm couldn't resist but mock the harpy woman, it was unbecoming but after that elemental had almost killed him he too had to let out some steam.

Aurelia was most likely busy with the great hero in the inn and he did not wish to disturb them.

The woman rose to her feet, her face twisted in disgust. "You think you won, human. Let me tell you despite me not knowing how you weaklings defeated Tormentor you will die. Champions might have failed to save us, however..." she chuckled to herself as if she still had faith that she would be saved.

It was normal for new slaves to be defiant, it took quite a amount of time to properly break them.

"Iguva won't take a loss of such an important fortress lightly... I pray for you... human." Harpy spoke with conviction, clearly trying to intimidate Grahm.

He would not entertain the nasty woman anymore, she would be left for the handlers once they were shipped to the capital of Valar.

"Run away you monster, easy for you to slaughter and enslave civilians huh!?" Harpy woman screeched at him, her wings bound together preventing her from flying over the fenced area.

They were gathered in a pen in a similar manner cattle were kept. Grham did not like treating even demi-humans like this, but it was necessary to keep them from running away. The wooden fence that was quickly constructed to keep them inside could easily be broken. Fortunately, not many attempted to escape, as their will was already broken.

Guards patrolled around the fences in groups of 10 in case a demi-human escaped. However, some tried and were promptly put down or bound with stronger chains.

Grahm made his way past the prisoner pen back inside the town, his commanders moved inside one of the larger buildings from where they would be able to organize the army and push further into demi-human territory.

However just as Grham was about to enter he saw rows upon rows of Guardian Angels as he knew them lining the streets, they were pouring into each corner, some flew on top of the walls while some took defensive positions.

"What had he done now..." Grham quickened his steps, he made his way inside a house that seemed to have belonged to a rich demi-human.

Fortunately for him, he wasn't the only one who was gripped in panic by seeing an army of extremely powerful Guardian Angels.

No, if it was only an army of Guardians it would be terrifying but understandable, however, he saw at least 5 Archangels in their ranks.

It was inconceivable to summon more than 10 summons even with more powerful skills and yet Cedric just demonstrated that not only was he immensely powerful he could summon an army of impossibly powerful angels.

"Grahm have you seen them?!" One of his commanders, an older gentleman, his gray hair and wrinkled face clearly displaying his age.

He was a commander of Archer units.

"That man is a monster." A relatively younger man spoke, his right eye was gouged out long ago, and his voice carried years of trauma.

"Do you see why I have implored everyone to try and recruit him," Grahm spoke, his voice trembling, his fear badly hidden.

"You are correct Grahm, we must be ready to offer whatever he asks for, but do we even know what he wants?" The Commander of Archer's units spoke as he folded his arms.

"Unfortunately, no. All I know is that Aurelia is working on her own to win him over, and it seems the last night worked as he had summoned an army to what looks like a defense of the town." Grahm spoke with a hint of pride, he was sure Aurelia was working in the interests of the Kingdom, and with her cunning, she was able to convince a powerful hero like Cedric to join them.

Commanders nodded, Aurelia was hurt after the battle but despite her being a woman she had proven herself a hero and a boon to the army.

"Now, Let us discuss our next plan gentlemen," Grham spoke with pride.

While Aurelia and the escort for slaves would return to Valar, Grahm and the majority of the army would remain at Vitpacar, cleaning it up and making it ready for human settlers.
