Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Battle Begins

The vast emptiness of space stretched out before Dominic, but in the distance, the CMC's formidable battle stations loomed. As the UOP battleship Valiant sliced through the darkness, its engines burning bright, a thousand thoughts raced through Dominic's mind. The white titan he now piloted felt like an extension of himself, its advanced systems syncing perfectly with his neural implants. Yet, the reality of war was never as simple as technology or firepower. This was about survival—about strategy. The fate of the UOP rested on their ability to push back the CMC's relentless forces.

As the Valiant drew closer to the frontlines, the UOP fleet braced for impact. The once-quiet bridge was now a cacophony of orders being shouted, tactical systems coming online, and the deep hum of weapons systems powering up. Outside, the dark expanse of space seemed to shimmer as dozens of enemy vessels emerged from the void, their angular shapes unmistakably CMC.

Dominic's mech, the giant white titan, stood in the hangar bay, waiting. The ship's launch doors creaked open, and the sound of weapons being primed echoed through the corridors. He was ready to join the fray.

"Mercenary squad, prepare for launch," the captain's voice rang out over the intercom, commanding and steady.

Dominic's heart beat faster, but he held his breath, focusing on the task ahead. He could feel the power of the mech thrumming through him, the interface humming as his thoughts and the machine began to sync.

"Dominic," the voice of his mechanic crackled through his comms. "You're in the thick of it now. Keep your wits about you, and remember, you're not alone out there."

The words echoed in his mind as he piloted the titan out of the bay. His mech hovered for a moment in the vacuum of space, its colossal form now in full view. As the others in his squad deployed, the scene around him unfolded like a symphony of war—ships, mechs, and explosions flashing in every direction.

Without hesitation, Dominic activated his thrusters, launching forward. The Valiant and other UOP ships began their assault, launching fighter jets and smaller mechs into the chaos of the battlefield. On the other side, the CMC's battle stations fired a deadly volley of missiles and energy blasts, streaking toward the incoming UOP forces.

Dominic's mech moved like a predator through the void, its movements smooth and controlled despite the chaos around him. He raised his right arm, the massive energy cannon charging up with a low hum. It only took a moment for him to find his target—an enormous CMC battleship, its hull bristling with weapons. With a single pull of the trigger, the cannon discharged, and a burst of intense energy shot out, streaking across the blackness of space.

The energy blast slammed into the CMC ship's port side, causing a massive explosion that illuminated the dark sky. The ship buckled and spun out of control, its weapon systems going dark as it drifted helplessly. Dominic's heart raced. One target down. But there were plenty more.

He barely had time to register the destruction before enemy mechs appeared, charging toward him in a swarm of steel and fire. CMC mechs—sleek, deadly, and heavily armed—were closing in fast. Dominic's fingers tightened on the controls as he ordered his mech to take evasive action.

"Lock onto targets," he muttered, voice low. His white titan was agile despite its massive size, the thrusters propelling it forward as it dodged enemy fire. The cockpit HUD blinked, showing incoming enemy mechs and their firing trajectories.

"Target locked. Firing missiles," Dominic barked into the comms.

The left arm of the titan opened, revealing a set of missile pods hidden within. With a series of beeps and clicks, the pods launched, sending a flurry of high-speed missiles toward the approaching CMC mechs. Explosions rippled through the blackness, one mech after another consumed by fireballs that lit up the void like miniature suns. Dominic's eyes tracked each explosion, calculating his next move as his sensors locked onto a new threat.

A massive CMC Juggernaut-class mech came into view, its hulking frame intimidating even from a distance. The Juggernaut was a monstrous machine, its armor thick enough to withstand heavy artillery fire. It was armed with a massive plasma cannon and an assortment of missile launchers on its back.

Dominic didn't hesitate. His white titan surged forward, its powerful legs propelling it through space with unnatural speed. He closed the distance between himself and the Juggernaut, weaving through fire from enemy ships and other mechs.

"Come on, you bastard," Dominic muttered under his breath.

The Juggernaut fired first, its plasma cannon charging with a searing, crackling energy. Dominic's titan's HUD lit up with warnings, but he was already moving. With a sharp twist, he activated the right arm, aiming the energy cannon.

"Lock… fire!"

The cannon discharged, and the blast shot forward with pinpoint accuracy, slamming into the Juggernaut's cannon and sending it spiraling out of control. But the battle was far from over. The Juggernaut's secondary weapons flared, firing massive rounds toward Dominic's mech. He ducked and rolled to the side, using the thrusters to spin his titan out of harm's way.

The space around him was a warzone—flashes of light, explosions, the shrill hum of missiles and laser fire. His mech's sensors were constantly feeding him data—positioning, enemy movements, terrain. It was a game of life and death, and Dominic was playing it better than anyone.

Just as the Juggernaut started to fire its secondary weapons again, Dominic's mech's left arm extended, a heavy claw shooting out with a mechanical roar. He swung it like a battering ram, crashing into the Juggernaut's side with bone-shattering force. The impact sent the massive CMC mech flying into a nearby debris field, its armor buckling under the assault.

But before Dominic could follow up, an explosion ripped through the nearby ships, a shockwave sending his titan tumbling. His cockpit shook violently, the controls rattling under his grip as alarms blared in his ears. The Valiant had taken a direct hit, and the CMC was sending reinforcements.

Dominic's HUD displayed incoming orders from the UOP command. The fleet was retreating—temporarily. They needed to regroup.

But Dominic wasn't finished. Not yet.

He fired the thrusters and charged toward the battlefield again, ready to finish what he started.
