Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Colossus of War

Dominic's white titan stood on the battlefield, a monument to destruction. The wreckage of CMC ships and mechs scattered around him like broken toys, their twisted forms drifting through the vacuum of space. The battle was far from over, but there was a silence, a brief pause in the chaos, as both sides regrouped.

Dominic's sensors flared to life, alerting him to an incoming threat. He barely had time to react before a massive shadow loomed in front of him, blocking out the stars. It was a mech—larger than any he had faced so far. A true beast of war.

This was no ordinary machine. This was a CMC-class Titan, an assault mech built for absolute devastation. Its body was a twisted mass of reinforced armor plates, layered and stacked for maximum protection. The mech stood easily 15 meters tall—far larger than Dominic's own. Its massive arms were lined with flamethrowers and plasma turrets, while its legs were armed with hydraulic rams capable of crushing anything in their path.

The Titan's pilot was a cold, mechanical voice that came over the comms: "You've killed my brothers, scavenger. Now you'll pay."

Dominic's eyes narrowed. This was no ordinary fight. This was a fight to the death.

With a single command, the Titan's weapons hummed to life. It raised its massive right arm, a colossal plasma cannon glowing menacingly at the end of its forearm. Dominic didn't hesitate. He raised his own energy cannon in response, his targeting systems locking onto the incoming threat.

The first shot came like a comet, the Titan's plasma cannon firing a searing burst of energy straight toward Dominic's mech. The white titan's thrusters flared as he immediately dove to the left, barely avoiding the blast. The explosion rocked the space around him, sending shockwaves through the battlefield.

But there was no time to celebrate the dodge. Dominic knew he needed to be quick—this thing wasn't going to stop.

"Let's dance," Dominic muttered to himself.

He surged forward, his massive mech's legs propelling him at top speed, the thrusters pushing him into a full sprint toward the Titan. The white titan's cannon hummed again as it charged up, and with a roar, he fired a blistering shot directly at the Titan's chest.

The blast hit its mark, but the Titan barely flinched. Its reinforced armor absorbed the energy blast, leaving only a minor scorch mark. It wasn't enough to stop the beast. The CMC Titan's fists, each the size of a small vehicle, began to move.

Dominic had no choice but to react fast. The Titan lunged forward, swinging its right arm like a wrecking ball. The momentum of the punch was enough to tear through the empty space like a storm. Dominic raised his own arms to block, but the sheer force of the impact sent his mech sliding backward. Sparks flew from his left shoulder joint, and the mechanical arms creaked under the pressure.

"You think you can win?" The CMC pilot's voice boomed through the comms, cold and unrelenting. "This is the power of the CMC! This is unstoppable!"

Dominic gritted his teeth, his hands tightening around the controls. He wasn't going to let this monster break him.

"I don't need to be unstoppable," he growled under his breath. "I just need to outlast you."

With a sudden burst of energy, Dominic activated his thrusters and rocketed backward, putting distance between himself and the Titan. His sensors blinked rapidly, mapping out the Titan's weak spots. He couldn't just brute-force his way through this fight—he needed precision.

As the Titan came barreling forward, its massive legs stomping with the power of a war machine, Dominic waited for the perfect moment. He pivoted on his heels, throwing his mech into a spin, and his right arm extended. The massive claw, glowing with plasma energy, shot forward.

The Titan's left arm, heavy with twin missile launchers, shot toward him in response. A barrage of missiles streaked through the space between them. Dominic's targeting systems went into overdrive, calculating trajectories and speeds. He swerved his mech to the left, dodging the incoming missiles. One missile grazed his right leg, leaving a deep dent in the plating, but it wasn't enough to slow him down.

He was close now. The Titan's massive fists swung down like hammer blows, but Dominic's white titan was faster. He ducked low, sliding beneath the Titan's hulking legs, and with one fluid motion, he swung the energy claw upward, raking it across the Titan's exposed underbelly.

The claw tore through the Titan's armored plating, opening a massive gash along its belly. The Titan's pilot screamed in pain over the comms as sparks and smoke billowed from the damage.

But the Titan wasn't out of the fight yet. It staggered back, its immense weight shifting in the low gravity of space, and unleashed a flurry of punches and energy blasts in rapid succession. Dominic's white titan dodged, ducked, and weaved, but each blow grew more desperate, more brutal. The Titan's relentless assault kept coming, and for a moment, Dominic felt the crushing weight of the battle. He was outclassed in sheer size and firepower.

The Titan grabbed a massive energy hammer from its back—an absurdly heavy weapon meant to flatten anything in its path. The hammer crackled with energy as it swung down with terrifying force, aiming for Dominic's mech.

"Damn it!" Dominic hissed, desperately firing his energy cannon in retaliation. The shot hit the hammer's handle, knocking it off course by mere inches, but not enough to stop it.

The hammer struck the ground with such force that it created a shockwave, sending Dominic's mech careening to the side. His systems overloaded with warning alarms, and for a brief moment, his cockpit was bathed in red.

He couldn't afford this. Not now.

Summoning every ounce of strength, Dominic fired the thrusters at full power and shot up into the air, narrowly avoiding the hammer's second strike. His energy cannon was still operational. He locked onto the Titan's cockpit—its most vulnerable point—and fired with every ounce of power the cannon had left.

The shot tore through the Titan's chest. The impact was brutal. The CMC mech shuddered, its frame groaning under the sudden influx of energy. Then, with a terrible, resounding roar, the Titan's chestplate exploded outward, its internal systems shutting down in a blaze of fire.

The Titan fell to its knees, its massive form buckling. Smoke and fire billowed from the cracks in its frame, and the pilot's screams faded to a faint static hum as the mech's systems went dark.

Dominic's white titan hovered in the debris field, battered but victorious. His hands shook with exhaustion, but a cold satisfaction settled in his chest.

"This isn't over yet," he muttered, staring at the burning wreckage of the CMC Titan.
