Chapter 8 - her name

"Mr. Axton." A light tap was heard on his door, making him glance at it.

"Come in." He said and the person walked in.

"Sir." He bowed.

"What brings you here?" Dakota asked, while slightly getting up from his sit, just enough for him to adjust in it.

"Ms. Cadell, is here to see you."

What could she possibly want?

"Let her in." the staff nodded, and took his leave, come g back seconds later, with the brunette.

"Mr. Axton, lovely too see you again." She smiled.

"What's with the surprise visit?" Dakota cocked a brow.

"No, you see I only came to talk to you."

"And about? You know," he started off once more, his time, with a ruder tone. "last time I came to… I suppose where you work, you seemed to have been, lying."

"Lying? Why would i?" she cocked a brow of her own. "Lying isn't in my blood." With that noted, she placed her hand on the table, leaning in with her another mischievous smile.

Dakota immediately began laughing. "And what's that meant to mean?"

"It's the first that, Mr. Axton laughed. well, now that I've seen it." His smile evaporated on the spot, putting on a more… serious? Face.

"Why did you come here?"

"Isn't it obvious?"

Dakota sighed. "No, no it is not… you see, I am not someone who reads mind, so unfortunately, I think you'd have to be specific with your words." He placed a pen down, looking up at her, and hearing her tongue click with annoyance.

"You truly are something… well," an exhausted exhale escaped her lips as she pushed herself of the table and back to her feet.

"I only came to inform that, the higher ups, said they'll be coming back… soon."

"That's good to know."

"no sign of appreciation?"

"and why do I need to show that to you?"

"Because u deserve it."

Dakota narrowed his eyes at her words.

"And is that a demand?" he got up, and walked towards her, his hand now sinking into his pockets.

Adria took a step forward too, her hand going to his tie to adjust it. "No… no it is not." His exact same words.

Slowly, he removed his hand, aiming to grab her chin, when Zendaya walked in.

Adria could only but turn her head slightly, her lips parting little.

The beautiful smile on her face vanished, and only one that itches to stay remained.

"Who is she?"

Dakota slowly moved back, tucking his hand back into his pocket, and walking away from Adria.

Bingo. She thought with a smile widening on her lips.

"Adria, only came for business talk." He turned back at her, and Adria avoided his gaze like something actually happened.

"Yes… his right." She fell silent, trying to keep a wide smile inside.

The look she had on was totally willing to scare a child.

"I'd take my leave, now." She lowered her head, trying to peacefully leave, when Zendaya held her back.

"Where do you think your going? Huh?" The moment she grabbed her hand, a slap was delivered next.

Adria feet numbed, and she fell to the ground, holding her cheek in slight pain.

"And what was that for?"

"This slut was trying to, throw herself on you! And you didn't bother stopping her!" Zendaya pointed out.

"She was only here for business."

"It's fine…"

"Besides, I was the one who got too close."

Zendaya looked at her with a sharp glare.

Adria couldn't help but notice her attire.

She was dressed in a black skirt, a white blouse and a jacket to match.

She also noticed her heels.

Her eyes, went from her heels, to her face.

Zendaya looked like a woman.

A sexy woman.

One she could never be in her past life.

Adria chuckled softly, or though made it that, only her could hear it.

"Wait outside..." Zendaya crossed her hands, waiting for Adria to get up and do as told. "Zendaya, wait outside... Please." Her hands immediately unfolded, a surprised look on her face.

"What? Now you pick her over me huh?" She scoffed and dashed out the door. Her anger only building up more.

"Are you alright?" Dakota crouched down, and gently removed her hand from the hurting area.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"No your not." He held her jaw, his fingers pressing against the red area.

"Do you want to come with me to the doctor's office?"

"No." Adria said and removed his hand. "I said I'm fine." She felt upset, almost so, that she could find Zendaya and pull hard on her hair.

Without thinking, her finger nail went into her mouth, before biting on the side of it.

Dakota looked at her like she was someone he knew.

"What's that?" He asked, his tone a little more serious.

"What?" Adria pulled her finger out her mouth, but then noticed he was staring at her hand. Crap! She thought.

In her past life, she usually did that when she was mainly nervous or around him, she made it a habit, one she couldn't even stop now.

"Ah," she chuckled, and then dropped her hands. "Just a thing I do when stressed."

Dakota narrowed his eyes.

"What? Is it something wrong?"

"No." He turned. "A... friend, used to do it."

A friend, huh? Adria turned.

"Veronica..." She froze the moment her name got called.
